I flip through the pages of a book of disciplines in my clan. We have rules for a reason. I know I must follow them. I was born to do this. I am one of them. I am Second Master Lan. But sometimes I have to break them. 

I look out the window and see Wei Ying drinking again. I stare at him. I saw him in the pond. His body slashed and shredded. I even see his bare feet. They were all scratched up. I can't help but wonder how that happened. What did he do? What happened the past sixteen years? He still looks and acts pretty much the same. 

Why does he always act like the weight of the world is on top of him? Why does he always have to suffer? The past thirteen years I've been trying to find him. I've been trying to figure out what has happened to him. I feel like he's lost. I can see him afraid and alone. I wish I could tell him he's not alone. 

I stare at the book of disciplines. I take in a breath, and I cast it off to the side. I have to break rules. I have to break them for him.
