It was 8pm. Calvin walked down the street on his way home. It was a warmer night than usual, the flicker of street lights brightened up the dark scenery.
Calvin wasn't feeling like his usual self tonight, but he hadn't been feeling like his usual self in a very long time. He begun shaking despite the warm air, a feeling he'd unfortunately gotten familiar with. Calvin trudged towards the nearest wall and leant on it to get some support. During times like these, Calvin's body tenses up, screams ring throughout his head and the feeling of dread creeps in to every corner of his brain. Instead of letting it get to this point however, Calvin fumbles in his pocket for his self diagnosed treatment, a cigarette.
Calvin stood there, his body leaning against the wall as he lights up. He takes a chance to take in his surroundings as the tobacco settles his restlessness. This street was nothing special, merely a side street connecting two busy roads. No particular buildings stood out, besides appartments and a very retro looking laundromat.
That's when Calvin notices something out of the ordinary. On the other side of the road, a pink fluorescent light caught his attention. The light illuminated a door and this was something Calvin had never noticed. It must have been new, since he walked this street every day and had never seen such a sight before. Curiosity got the better of him and he found himself walking over to the door. On closer inspection, a neon sign on the left to the door read 'Entrance' and Calvin could hear the faint noise of jazz music coming from inside.
It must be some sort of bar, he concluded. The bright lights would suggest a club of some sort, but Calvin couldn't imagine any sort of night club playing jazz music.
A bar was just what he needed right now. It looked dodgy enough that they wouldn't ask him for ID, as he wasn't yet legal. Places like these were harder to find, it was like everywhere Calvin went they asked him for ID now. He realised it was the law but Calvin had found it so much easier slipping past security undetected 5 years ago.
This bar seemed like his only option right now and so he pushed open the door open and walked inside. The place was completely empty, but Calvin didn't even notice. He only had one thing on his mind, and that was to get a drink. The room was an array of pink and blue fluorescent lights and the bar table was a smooth white surface with matching white bar stools. Calvin took a seat gingerly and laid his elbows on the bar table. He cracked his knuckles nervously as he watched the bartender approach him.
If he was denied a drink, Calvin didn't know what he'd do. His mood swings had been a lot worse lately and he felt like he'd have a full blown tantrum if he didn't get a drink within a few minutes.
"What's your poison?"
Poison. He's got that right.
The bartenders voice was low and rough and Calvin noticed he had a gold tooth when he spoke. In any other circumstance, Calvin would feel uneasy about the whole situation.
The bar was completely empty on a Saturday night.
The bartenders voice alone was enough to give him chills and he'd never seen or heard anything about a bar opening up on this street.
But in this circumstance, Calvin ignored all the weird signs and focused all his attention on to getting some alcohol as soon as possible.
"Scotch." Calvin replied.
