Kara's birthday party was in full swing, and of course she's busy talking with friends and family. "Need some company, Lance?" The familiar voice made my neck tingle.

"I'm fine by myself, Merlyn" I crossed my arms, not even looking in his direction.

Malcolm Merlyn was one of Kara's greatest friends, they met because of her adopted brother Slade, who worked with Malcolm occasionally. Of course, when she introduced me, he immediately gained interest and loves to piss me off.

"Kara's going to run off with Oliver eventually, than the only people you'll know here is Alex and Slade" He was obviously grinning.

"I'm fine by that, Slade is a great companion" I grinned at him before strutting away.

I found myself talking to Kara's ex-co-workers Winn and James who now run a tech company in Los Angeles together. "Kara never realized her phones battery was slowly burning her until she was showing me a video and it nearly burnt me" Winn sighed, "Honestly, sometimes it's like she's made of steel"

"I would say" I shook my head, "She's definitely getting through life like she is"

"How is she after Mon-el ran off with that chick?" James asks.

"Better than expected, Oliver and William are definitely helping her" I smiled as we peered over to Kara and William 'testing' all the snacks on the table.

"Laurel" Alex rushed over, "Have you seen Malcolm?"

"Oh god, no" I shook my head. "Well technically yes"

"I need a real answer, Laur" she gave me a look.

"Yes, he came to talk to me a while ago but I left him standing by the stairs" I pointed out, "He was doing that thing again"

"You mean the thing that gets you weak in the knees?" She crossed her arms. "Go stand with Kara, we're about to do the cake"

I stuck my tongue out to her as she walked away before dragging Winn and James to stand in the dinning room with everyone else. "Laurel, how have you been? It's been weeks since we've been able to get together" Kara walked over.

"I've been busy, I got the new job at the DA's office and I'm in the middle of moving" I smiled.

"You are? You should have told me, I would've gotten Oliver, Slade, and Malcolm help" She smiled back, "Where is Malcolm anyway? He's usually silently following you around any get together"

"What?" I asked, a little taken back.

"Yea, you never noticed?" She giggled, "I'm pretty sure he has a crush on you"

"Oh god, you make it sound like we're in middle school" I took a sip of the champagne she was holding, she gave me her puppy eyes and I had to give it back. "Anyways, Malcolm is a player, not to mention his son is my age"

"Tommy is 2 years younger than us, and Malcolm just doesn't know what to do since... his wife died" She looked down, "Listen, Malcolm would never intentionally hurt you, not while knowing your a vital part of my life. Like, this past week I nearly eloped with Oliver" she whispered the last part.

"Excuse me?" I held my hand to my chest, "I would've murdered you if you did that"

"I know, that's why I didn't do it" She sighed, "What I'm trying to say is, give Malcolm a shot"

"You better be happy your like a sister to me" I sighed, "Go blow out the candles on your cake"

After singing happy birthday, her opening the presents everyone got her, and a few rounds of karaoke. Kara and Oliver snuck off to the backyard for a romantic picnic near the pool, and everyone else starting leaving slowly.

Eventually it was just Malcolm, Slade, Alex, Nyssa, and me. "Okay, have you ever danced naked on a bar?" Nyssa asked.

"God no, I learnt how to hold my alcohol in my teens" Alex replied, "Okay, Laurel, have you... ever.... been in love?"

"Once, a decade ago" I nodded, "or technically, I thought I was"

"What happened?" Slade asked.

"Well, he's in the backyard with his future wife" I nodded, looking over the couch and seeing Oliver and Kara cuddling, and eating cake. "He's much better with her than he was with me"

"Your turn" Nyssa told me.

"Okay... Slade! Have you ever.... been to a foreign country?" I'm bad at this game.

"I was born in Australia, so this is technically this is a foreign country to me, but I've also been to China and Kasnia"

"I always wanted to visit Kasnia" Nyssa nodded.

"Same" Me and Malcolm responded at the same time. Everyone kind of went silent.

"Anyways, Malcolm... have you ever... forgotten your son anywhere?" Slade asked.

"Once. I accidentally left him on a carousel when he was 8" Malcolm nodded, "Of course, he liked it, but he never let me forget it"

"I would've loved to be forgotten on a carousel, but instead I was forgotten in Walmart and a gun store" Alex crossed her arms, glaring at Slade.

"The Walmart was mom's fault! The gun store... yea.. that was me" Slade sighed.

"Laurel, have you ever thought of going on a date with me?" Malcolm blurted out.

I was taken back. I looked at the others for help but they all were looking at each other. "It's for me to know, and you to fight for" I quickly hit back.

"What's that mean?" Nyssa asked.

"You want to date me, Merlyn? You have to impress me" I stood up, walking towards the front door. "I'll see you guys all later"

"Just you wait, Laurel. In a years time, you'll be called Laurel Merlyn!" He exclaimed as I opened the door.

"I'll hold you to that" I shot him a wink before closing the door.
