👑CHAPTER SIX👑
•Fairytales Don't Last Forever•

Somewhere in Albany🗽

11:43 p.m.

-Friday; night-

-Jack-

We continued our search until we made a stop on the corner of Pixie and Dust. Simon pulled up to the gate outside of a dark, and spooky-looking house; he rolled down his window and rung the buzzer.

"Hello...?"

"Fairy Godmother, it's Simon."

"Simon? Simon Finkle...is that really you?" She let out a horrible cough; she sounded like she was extremely ill.

"In the flesh."

"Oh...It feels like it's been ages."

"Yeah, I'm sorry about that. I've been pretty busy. How have you been?"

She let out another alarming cough.

"Oh, I'm fine."

He let out a soft but concerned chuckle. "I brought you a visitor."

"How, nice. I'll summon the fairies to let you in."

Her voice cut out and the fairies came momentarily to let us in. Simon pulled in and we made our way up the long drive-way. I have to say, I wasn't too impressed with the scenery. It wasn't at all what I had imagined.

The Fairy Godmother's house seemed so...non-magical; her plants were decaying, the fairies were sluggish, and the garden gnomes that protected her gardens, were all broken; their pieces were scattered across the yard. We came to a stop and I let myself out.

"It's been awhile since I've been here." Simon, said, "It's certainly changed while I was away."

We approached the door and Simon rung the doorbell. The door slowly began to open and a fairy welcomed us in. I immediately noticed, for some reason, all the inside lights were dim, nearly pitch black and there was music playing close by; I felt like I was in some kind of horror movie.

The fairy led us down a long, dark hallway; the floorboards squeaked with every step we took. She stopped us at a doorway.

"You must know something before you walk any further. The Fairy Godmother...she has become very ill. Her heartbeat is weak, her magic is fading away, and each day she's forgetting more and more; we're not sure how much longer she has left."

"No...how long has she been this way?"

"Two years."

Simon bowed and we continued through the house until we reached the living room. The longer we stayed the more I felt freaked out; my instincts were telling me to run but I held in.

The living room was a dark and ominous area. Just like the rest of the house, it didn't have one spec of light.

"Fairy Godmother?"

A lamp suddenly shot on and I nearly jumped out of my shoes. Simon quickly rushed over to her side.

"How long have you been like this?" He asked.

"It wasn't as bad as it is now. It all sorta came out of nowhere. I knew the day would come eventually. I tried to delay the inevitable for so long; even magic has its limits."

"That's actually why we're here."

"Jack is the visitor I was telling you about. He's the only son of of Conner and Lily Williams."

She let out a loud cough and sat up in her chair.

"This is him--little Jack?"

"Yes, ma'am. He's come seeking your help with a problem he can't seem to overcome."

"What would that be?"

"He has a mental illness. The doctors called it BDD."

"Yes, I've heard of it. It's a very serious condition indeed."

I sat down on the couch across from her.

"Do you think you can help me, Fairy Godmother? I don't know where else to turn at this point."

"My sweet Jack...You've really grown up. I--"

She suddenly froze and began to give us a blank stare.

"Who are you? Why are you here?"

"Simon, what's wrong with her?"

"I don't know..."

Simon explained who we were and why we have had came.

"Simon? Its been so long." She opened up her arms and gave Simon and hug.

"Fairy Godmother, do you think you can use your magic on me to remove my illness?"

"I...I'm afraid I can't, darling. My own illness has gotten the best of me and my magic isn't what it used to be."

She pulled out her wand and waved it around. The tip began to light up and when she went to cast a spell nothing appeared but dust.

"The thought of death is a scary one indeed, but in a weird way I am ready for it. My entire life I have spread the love and joy of magic around the world; my life itself was magical."

"You're going to be fine," Simon said. I could hear the sadness in his voice.

"Don't cry, dear. Everything is going to be--"

She looked at us again with another cold, blank stare and suddenly she began to tick. I could see her starting to shake, for some reason, I wasn't quite sure of at the time. Each second it got more intense until It finally happened.

Everything seemed to go quiet for a moment. I was speechless as she fell towards the ground.

"Call an ambulance!" Simon yelled to me.

I quickly took out my phone and dialed 9-1-1. I was scared, the sight was just too much for me to watch. I was witnessing the death of an icon.

"9-1-1. What's your emergency?"

"T-the Fairy Godmother...she's--please send someone, now!"

"We will--"

Before I could hear what else they were saying, I dropped my phone onto the floor.

"They're on their way, Simon!"

He said nothing, keeping all his attention on her.

I quickly rushed over to the nearest window. I pushed away the glittery, blue curtains and the moonlight shot into the room, shining over the Fairy Godmother. I sat at the window, waiting for help to arrive; It seemed like hours, but the paramedics and the police arrived shortly.

The paramedics pulled out a stretcher then barged through the front door. They took her away and quickly rushed her outside to the ambulance; Simon and I followed behind.

I sat on the curb outside the gates, alone while Simon talked to the officers. The fairies, garden gnomes, and other magical creatures watched from the other side of the gate; they looked sad and just as terrified as we were. I tried my best to shake away the horrific flashbacks but the flashing lights of the emergency vehicles kept the images planted in my mind.

Simon approached me.

"Are you okay," he asked.

"Yeah...I think so."

"I'm sorry you had to see that. I never would have brought you if I knew all this was going to happen."

"No, really it's fine. You were being supportive. It's a good thing she got to see a friend before she had to go; I'm sure she was happy."

"Maybe you're right; thanks for that."

"No problem."

He was quiet for a second.

"So, what are you going to do now--you know...about the illness."

"Honestly, I don't know. This was my only lead. Maybe there isn't much else I can do but just go back home and call it a night."

He put his hand on my shoulder. "I'm sorry, Jack. We'll find another way."

The cops called Simon over and he walked over towards them, while I just sat, feeling sad, unaccomplished, stressed, scared; and above all...hopeless. I picked up a rock lying next to me and threw it out of frustration. It made a loud "BANG" as it collided with a nearby stop sign. I looked over and quickly spotted a yellow flyer taped to its metal surface.

I walked over to it and ripped it off. It was some kind of Ad. It read: Come down to 1023 Gold street; we work hard to turn your dreams into a reality. Magic is the ultimate solution. I suddenly felt warm inside. This was exactly what I needed to get rid of my horrible illness. I rushed over to Simon.

"I got it! I know where I need to go next."

I gave him the flyer and he examined it.

"You really want to try this?"

"I don't have any other choice."

He sighed. "Okay...well I'm coming with you."

"No, you should stay here. I'll take a cab."

"I don't think that's a good idea. I'm supposed to watch over you."

"Simon, please...being able to handle things myself is a part of me making progress, right? Well I want to do this on my own. I'll come right back to the house when I'm finished."

He thought it over and then let out a sigh. "Fine, but be careful. Not everyone using magic uses it for the right purposes; anything can happen."

"You don't have to remind me... I'll see you later."

I called a taxi to my location and they arrived shortly to pick me up. I tried to stay positive during the ride, but I only grew more nervous as the trip progressed.
