The Resistance Camp
Y/N felt a slight smile forming on his lips when the familiar view of abandoned ruined city appeared in his and A2's view. If he was honest with himself, he would never except himself to become happy at the view of it, after all of the not so friendly encounters with the machines he had in there since his awakening, but he has proven himself to be wrong.
The city ruins may have not been the safest place he has been to in his entire life. In fact it was one the most dangeros ones for all obvious reasons, but he preferred to be in there than in the forest, after the time he had spend in the forest along with A2. He was in the forest for such a short amount of time compared to the time he had spend in the city ruins, but it was still enough for him to determine which place was safer. Plus, sleeping in a room in some abandoned building was much better and less risky than sleeping in a cave somewhere in the forest, right?
The bridge that he recognized as the very same bridge he and A2 used earlier that day to get to the commercial facility on the other side of it was the first thing he and A2 spotted upon entering the city ruins again. He was quite suprised to see it so early. He scratched his head as his small smile faded from his lips and was replaced with a look of suprise, because it was when he realized how close they were to Pascal's village without even realizing it.
His and A2's attention was quickly shifted to something else, though. They had the other, more important matters they had to care of. They had to bring the fuel filter which Pascal had given them, before they left his camp to the Resistance. This matter sparked a small discussion between them once Y/N brought it up as A2 voiced how relucant she was about having to go to said camp.
After Y/N spent the next few minutes on trying to convince her to take him to the Resistance camp, A2 reluctantly agreed take him to it. Y/N was gladenned once she told him she'll lead him to the Resistance camp, because he wanted to bring the fuel filter from Pascal to this Anemone. He felt like he owned it to Pascal. If it wasn't for the friendly machine, they would probably be still searching for a way out of the forest.
There was one condition they agreed upon, though. A2 will take Y/N to the camp, but won't enter it with him. She'll be waiting for him outside it. Y/N agreed on this condition, but he couldn't help but wonder why A2 was so relucant about entering the Resistance camp. Perharps it had something to do with her being a YoRHa deserter. He wasn't exactly sure.
His android companion began leading him towards the Resistance camp shorty after they came to this agreement. The long haired android walked ahead of him. One of her blades was held tightly in her grip in case of the machine attack as her human ward walked about a mater behind her, ready to back away at any second in case of the possible attack.
The road to Anemone's camp was uneventful for the first several minutes. It changed when a group of machines jumped out of the corner between the two buildings and ambushed them. Already knowing how to react to such a thing happening, Y/N backed away from the fight and let A2 do her work. He wasn't worried about her, because she has proven herself to a capable warrior against those machines many times to him. He wasn't worried about himself getting harmed during this fight either, because he trusted A2 on keeping him safe.
A2 let out an annoyed sigh in front of him as she cut through the last machine from the group that ambushed them, making it blow up into smithereens, leaving the path clear for them, for now, "...Those fucking machines."
"They just can't leave us alone even for a second, huh?" Y/N stated, losing the count of how many times they were ambushed by the machines since his awakening.
A2 pushed herself into walk forward herself, glancing over her shoulder at her human ward, "Let's go. We have still have some walking ahead of us."
"Do you know her?" Y/N asked A2 as he followed her, wanting to use this opportunity to ask his android companion about Anemone and if she had any past with her. A2 continued to walk forward herself with her eyes set on the road ahead of her as she listened to what her human ward had to say to her, "This Anemone? I saw how you reacted to Vick mentioning her name after we encountered him back in the forest."
"We have history." A2 decided to go straight to the point with her answer, not seeing the point in hiding this information from her human ward, "We are old comrades. Me and her. We haven't been in contact for a long time, though."
"Why?" Y/N asked her another question, curiosity evident in his voice.
A2 shook her head, not wanting to relive those memories, not now at least, "I don't want to talk about what happened the last time I saw her."
"It's alright." Y/N realized that it must have been a sore subject and decided to leave it for the time being, "You don't need to tell me right now if you don't want to. You'll tell me once you'll be feel comfortable talking about it."
A2 remained silent and offered him a quick nod of her head in response, keeping her eyes ahead of them, just in case if another group of machines appeared and, because she didn't want him to notice the expression which formed on her face. She wasn't showing it to him, but she was grateful that he wasn't forcing her to relive those painful memories, despise his clear interest in wanting to know more about her.
Not much happened for the rest of their walk towards the Resistance Camp. They got ambushed only one more time by another group of machines, but it was smaller than the previous one. It only consisted on three machines. A2 got rid of this small group of machines very quickly. Y/N didn't even had to back away from the fight, just like he did most of the times.
It wasn't long before they entered a certain area in the city that consisted mainly of water which was reaching Y/N's ankles. Water splashed underneath the human's boots as he looked around himself to get a better look at this area, because he didn't recall being in this part of the city before. Only a few grassy fields around him and A2 weren't covered by water which made them look like small islands.
"There." A2 stopped dead in her tracks and pointed at the hill ahead of her and Y/N. Her human ward looked in the direction she was pointing at and narrowed his eyes to make sure he will spot the place A2 wanted him to notice. It didn't took him long, only a few seconds to be exact, to spot an alleyway between the two old looking buildings.
"Will this alleyway take me to the camp?" Y/N asked, even though he was pretty much certain to what place this small alleyway between the buildings was going to take him. The two tall constructions made of wood and plates standing in front of it and the white blankets hanging down from the buildings made him realize that. He was asking A2 this question, because he just wanted to be sure.
"Yes." A2 responded with a slight nod of her head, "Go further into this alleyway and you will find yourself in the camp shorty after."
Y/N nodded in understanding and shifted his gaze from the to the camp to A2, "Are you sure you don't want to come with me?"
"Yes." A2 stick with her decision about staying behind and not going into the camp with him, "I'll go there with you maybe some other time, if there even will be one. Right now, I just don't want to."
Y/N offered her another nod of understanding, "Do you want me to give something to you when you'll be waiting for me to return to you? Like my music device? You said it yourself that you liked the music back in the forest after you listened to one my songs. You can go through the rest of my songs and search for the ones that you will like."
"No. I'll be fine." A2 shook her head at his offer, declining it, "Don't do anything suspicious in the camp."
Y/N gave her an assuring nod of his head, "Don't worry. I'm not going to do anything to make myself look suspicious in front of them. It's nice to see that you're worried about me."
"I'm not worried about you." A2 denied it, "I'm just telling you what you should do if you want to keep yourself out of trouble."
Y/N offered her a slight smile in response, "If you say so."
He turned away from A2 and pushed himself into walk towards the alleyway between the two buildings. He walked past the tall two constructions made of wood and plates, knowing that this construction had a name, but it flew out of his mind at the moment. He stopped for a brief moment and looked over his right shoulder, giving A2 who was standing several meters away from him a quick glance, before walking further into the alleyway.
He dissappeared from A2's view a few seconds later when he turned the corner on the right. Y/N followed the path between the old abandoned buildings and found himself in the Resistance camp a few seconds later. A few androids in the camp shifted their attention from whatever they happened to be doing when he entered their camp, probably because of his clothing which stood out from the rest of them, but most of them continued to do whatever they were doing at the moment of his arrival.
Y/N ignored the looks he received from some of the androids from the camp and eyed the place that he just found himself in, wanting to get to know the new surroundings. If he was honest with himself, he didn't know what he was excepting from this place. It looked like an ordinary camp or more like a market plaza, considering it had a few tents split up around it.
It was still a nice chance from the ruined environment of the city, though. He was amazed by just how many androids were present this close the entrance to the camp. He could only wonder how many of them were present in the actual camp at this very moment, because some of them could have been out of it on a mission or something else.
He glanced to his right side and saw two yellow trucks in the corner of the camp. He was actually kind of suprised to see them, because it was the first time he hasn't actually seen a single vehicle since his awakening until now. He doubted they would work, though. He shrugged his shoulders to it. It's not like he was going to use them anytime soon. Not too far from the trucks, he spotted closed door to the building. The androids from this camp could have use it as some sort of place to store the supplies in.
He looked around himself one more time after he was done with looking around his new surroundings, now doing it for a different reason. Now he just had to find Anemone and give the fuel filter from Pascal to her. He sighed internally, knowing it might take him some time to find her. It would have been much easier if he only knew how this Anemone looked like.
"Who are you?" An unknown male voice brought him out of his thoughts. Y/N nodded his head to himself. Of course. It was only a matter of time before one of the androids form the camp would approach him. He turned to the source of it and saw a male android standing in front of him. The unknown android had his arms crossed, his eyes narrowed underneath his goggles.
"My name is Y/N." Y/N introduced himself to him, "What about you? What's your name?"
"Vergil." Vergil introduced himself to Y/N as he crossed his arms, "What are you doing here? I have never seen you in the camp before."
"It's because I've never been in this place before." Y/N began his explanation, "I just recently stepped into these parts. You see, I've been traveling on my own for a while. It's my first time in this camp." He shifted his gaze away from Vergil and looked around the camp for another time, "Could you help me with something? I came here looking for your leader Anemone, but I don't know how she looks like. Could you take me to her?"
"Anemone?" Vergil asked, a hint of suspicion in his voice, "Why would you want to talk with her?"
"I have something I need to give her from Pascal." Y/N replied, "I left his village not that long ago."
"Pascal send you here?" Vergil wanted to be sure if he understood the newcomer in the camp correctly.
"Yes." Y/N confirmed it with a nod of his head, "He's the one who told me about your camp in the first place. He told me that you two are on friendly terms with each other when he spoke about this camp to me."
Vergil hesitated for a brief moment as if he was considering something and nodded his head at Y/N, "Follow me. I'll bring you to her."
Y/N nodded his head and followed Vergil through the camp. The android he had just came across took him to one of the tents on the left side on the camp. The human quickly spotted one android who was wearing green cloak standing in the tent. It was definitely a female. He couldn't see her face, though. Not yet at least. She was bent low, looking through some papers on the table in front of her. She was unaware she was just approached by someone, because her back was facing Y/N and Vergil.
Assuming this android to be Anemone, Y/N placed his bat down on the ground to lean against his right leg. He took off his backpack and unzipped it. He reached into it and and searched it for the fuel filter. He stopped once his hand landed on it a few seconds later, now ready to pull it out of his backpack and show it to the android that he believed to be Anemone at any second.
"Anemone." Vergil called out to for the android in front of him, confirming to Y/N that she was indeed Anemone as Y/N glanced at the area behind the leader of this camp, noticing a lot of machinery and computers behind her. This tent must have definitely belonged to the leader of this camp.
Anemone turned away from whatever she was doing at the moment and looked at Vergil, "Vergil?"
"This guy over here." Vergil pointed at Y/N. The human held his opened backpack in front of him, "He just came to our camp asking if he could talk with you. I had to bring him to you, because he didn't know how you looked like."
Anemone turned her gaze away from Vergil and looked at Y/N. She eyed him carefully, because she hasn't seen him before. He must have been new to the city. She shifted her gaze back to Vergil and nodded her head at him, "I'll handle this."
Vergil nodded in return and turned away from Anemone and Y/N, before walking away from the two, intending to return to whatever he was doing, before approaching Y/N.
Anemone was silent for a brief moment. She crossed her arms, looking at Y/N as if she was trying to figure out what to think of him. The human didn't blame her for it. He probably would have been suspicious in her place too, "What did you want to talk about?"
In response to Anemone's question, Y/N pulled out the fuel filter from his backpack and held it out to her, "Pascal told me to give you this when I'll see you."
"A fuel filter?" Anemone sounded gladdened by him bringing this fuel filter to her, "Ah, perfect timing. We were running low."
"My name is Y/N, by the way." Y/Nintroduced himself to Anemone after those words left her mouth. She nodded her head at his introduction, showing her acknowledgement of it. She reached her right hand out to him and took the fuel filter from him before turning away to face the table behind her again. Y/N zipped his backpack and slouched it over his back as Anemone placed the fuel filter on top of the table behind her, before turning around to look at him again.
"I don't think I need to introduce myself, because I believe you already know my name." She replied to his introduction as soon as she had her eyes on him again. She held her hand out to him for a handshake and Y/N grabbed her hand into his and shook it. His expression twisted a bit, because her grip was much stronger than his. It thankfully went unnoticed by Anemone, "So, you met Pascal?"
"Otherwise I don't think I would be here know, because I found out about this place from him." Y/N responded to her question, nodding his head. He gestured with his head to the fuel filter on the table behind Anemone, "I see Pascal didn't lie to me. Your camp is indeed trading with the machines."
"Just the ones from the village." Anemone explained, her green cloak slightly moving alongside the wind, "I know many androids wouldn't approve of this, but Pascal and the machines from his village have proven themselves to be worth of our trust. They're totally harmless. They also have the means to construct intricate devices that we can't. In exchange we provide them oil and other materials. I guess you'd call it a form of commerce."
Y/N nodded his head to show Anemone that he understood what kind of relationship her camp had with Pascal's village, "If you say so. Good to know not every machines wants to see us dead. I had my suspicious about Pascal after I entered his village for the first time, but I was pleasantly suprised. Pascal and the machines from his village are very nice."
Anemone nodded her head at Y/N after he voiced his mind about this matter. She was glad to see another android that was warmed up to the idea of living in peace with the machines, or at least the ones who wish to live in peace with them. This idea was not well received by many androids from the camp, but as the time passed, more of them started warming up to it. "Are you planning to head back to his village anytime soon?"
"Not really. I may end up paying Pascal a visit at some point, but right now I don't really have any plans to do so." Y/N shook his head at her question. He didn't have any plans to return to Pascal's village today. He enjoyed his time in there, but he already knew what he was going to do after he will leave Anemone's camp, "Why are you asking?"
"It's nothing." Anemone responded, "I would give you a high-viscosity oil if you'd be heading back to Pascal's village as I agreed to give him it in return for the fuel filter, but I will find someone else to do it. I don't think I will have trouble with looking for volunteers. Baylis and Arya have been asking me about a job for them for a while now."
"Would you mind if I looked around you camp before I'll leave?" Y/N asked Anemone as he nodded his head at the information about her already having the androids for the job, "I'm planning to head back into city soon."
Anemone nodded her head at him, "If that's the case, you're free to look around the camp for as long as you want."
"Thank you." Y/N said to her in a grateful tone, "I will definitely do that."
He picked up his bat from the ground and turned away from Anemone ready to start his trip around her camp. Anemone followed his example and turned away from him as well, returning to what she was doing, before Vergil approached her with Y/N. An android whose name Y/N did not know of approached her and she told him to bring Arya and Baylis to her.
Y/N started his trip around Anemone's camp by going to the left side of the plaza. The first tent he had stumbled upon during his trip was had one male android sitting on the white blanket that covered the ground underneath him. The android sitting on the blanket was surrounded by all kinds of old parts as he was in the middle of working on some kind of a device.
The human exchanged a few words with the android who introduced himself to him as Denki to, the supply trader for the Resistance. Y/N learned a few things about the Resistance from him such as the fact every item in the camp was hand-crafted from the abandoned parts and stuff plundered from enemy corpses. He ended his explanation with a question if he could help him with something or he was just looking around.
Y/N explained to him it was the latter and wished him a good day, before walking over to the tent next to his. He didn't have much difficulty with saying what was the purpose of this tent. It was wider than any other tent in this camp and had at least a dozen of bunk beds split up around it. It must have served a medical purpose.
He got the confirmation to this theory shorty after it popped into his mind from a female android with a hair colored in a color he could not name, because he was never good at naming colours outside of the regular ones, like blue or orange or black. She introduced herself to him as Petunia. She explained to him it was the place where she and H units from YoRHa were taking care of wounded androinds whenever one got hurt during a mission. He thanked her for this information and turned away, continuing his journey.
His trip around Anemone's camp was interrupted shorty after. Someone bumped into him when he was about to turn around to check the other side of the plaza. Wanting to know who it was, he looked at the android that just bumped into him and saw a woman with a straight red hair dressed in a white dress. She had a flower adoring her ride side of her face. A bit of her face and clothes were dirtied by something. From the smell of it, Y/N assumed to be an oil.
She wasn't the only android that appeared in his view, though. There was another android standing a few inches behind her. The android behind her looked almost the same as her. She wore the same clothes, shared the same hair colour, shared the same eye colour and even had the same flower adoring her face. Her hair style was completely different, though. Unlike the other android, she had a wavy hair. It was actually the only way why he was able to tell the difference between them
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you!" The android he had just bumped into exclaimed as she began checking his body as if she was feared him getting damaged in some way by her. A relieved sigh escaped her lips several seconds later after she saw that nothing was wrong with him, though the fearful expression remained on her face. The sleeve of his hoddie only received a small stain on oil from her, but it was barely noticeable.
"It's okay. It was just an accident." Y/N told her, slightly taken aback by how scared and nervous she became after she bumped into him, "I'm at fault here as well. I should pay more attention to my surroundings."
"It alright, sister." The android behind her spoke up in an attempt to calm her sister down, placing her hand on her shoulder. Y/N nodded his head internally, making a mental note out of it. It actually made sense to him to be sisters, considering how similiar they looked to each other, "You heard him, right? He is not angry at you for bumping into him. It was an accident."
Her words seemed to calm down her sister down as her fearful expression faded away from her face. Y/N turned away from her and went to the side of the camp he was heading towards to, before he bumped into her, "I will get going now. Have a good day, both of you."
As the human made his way to the right side of the plaza, the two similiar looking androids walked away, entering the side of the camp which Y/N hadn't went into, yet. Y/N continued his trip around the camp, passing by more androids and the items that belonged to them. He chuckled in his mind when he spotted an android who wore the machine's head over her head, finding it to be rather amusing and kind of adorable for some reason.
He walked past Vergil, but neither of them said a word to each other, because he was in the middle of a conversation with another android and Y/N didn't want to cut into the conversation he was having right now. Y/N managed to eavesdrop a small part of their conversation. Vergil's friend was telling him about some android named Layla who was found sleeping a few hours ago after she drank herself to sleep. It was followed by Vergil letting out a pitful sigh. It made Y/N wonder how many times Layla was found in such a state.
The human stopped dead in his tracks several seconds later after he spotted two figures standing a few meters on his left appeared in his view. They were dressed in a completely black clothes. The first figure was a dark red haired woman and her friend was a black haired male who was about a head shorter than her. Y/N immediately noticed one thing about them. They were the only androids in the camp who wore black clothes.
He knew only one android who wore black clothing, or rather the remnants of it. This android was no other than his traveling companion who was waiting for him outside the camp herself. They must have been from YoRHa. He felt relief going through his veins once he came to this realization. He doubted that they would treat A2 well, considering that she deserted from their faction when they would set their eyes on her. From their spot, they would have definitely spot her without any problem.
He made his way into the room where they were standing, wanting to have a talk with them. For a short moment, he thought that he heard some music from the front of this place, but he shrugged it off very quickly as his mind trying to play tricks on him. He stopped behind them, quickly noticing something like a blindfold wrapped around their heads.
"Excuse me." He said, wanting to earn their attention.
The red haired android turned around to look at him, "Yeah?"
"Would you mind if I stayed here with you for a bit?" Y/N questioned, trying not to act suprised that she was able to spot with her blindfold, "I'm will head out of this camp into the city very soon and I want to rest for a bit, before I will do so."
"I see no problem with it." The red haired android shrugged her shoulders at his question as her partner nodded in agreement, staying silent.
"Thanks." Y/N nodded his head in a grateful manner, now standing next to the short black haired android, "I'm Y/N."
"I'm 28D." The red haired android introduced herself to Y/N, confirmating his suspicion that she along with her friend were from YoRHa. He doubted that that the similarity of the names with her and A2 was just a coincidence. This must have been the way how the YoRHa androids were naming themselves, "My partner here is 4S."
4S nodded his head at Y/N as he added his part to his partners introduction, "Nice to meet you, Y/N."
"Likewise." Y/N nodded his head at the shorter android in return.
They didn't exchange more words with each other for the next few moments. Y/N remained silent as 4S and 28D occasionaly exchanged a word or two with each other. Now that 4S and 28D were standing this close to him, Y/N shifted his gaze between the two YoRHa androids, with the intention of taking a better look at them.
Looking at them from this close made him realize how clean and new their appearance looked compared to A2's dirty and in some parts ruined appearance. His android companion not only had her clothes torn up, but even had her skin missing from some parts of her body, revealing the endeskeleton underneath. It made him wonder for how long she isolated herself from the other androids and for how long she was all alone.
He brought himself out of his thoughts relating A2 when something he noticed out from the corner of his left eye caught his attention. It was a jukebox. An actual working jukebox. Now he understood why he heard the music when he neared this place. At first, he thought his mind was playing tricks on him, but it didn't end up being what happened. The music he had heard not so long ago must have come from this jukebox.
"You have a jukebox here?" He asked the two YoRHa androids in suprise. He wasn't excepting to see something like that in here, because he recalled A2 telling him that they didn't have music here. It once again made him ask himself for how long his traveling companion was isolated from the rest of the androids.
"Yes." 28D confirmed it to him with a nod of her head, "If you're interested in turning it on to listen to some music, then go ahead, help yourself. This jukebox is the reason why I like to come to this side of the camp so often. Listening to the music helps me relax whenever I and 4S complete a mission given to us by the Commander. It is just so relaxing."
"It never ceases to amaze me how the humans had so many ways of expressing things." 4S added, excitement starting to shown in his voice at the mention of humanity and their inventions as 28D looked at her partner, offering him a slight nod of her head in agreement, "I'm hoping that I'll get a chance to try all of them out once this war over. I'm especially looking forward to trying out video games."
"Video games?" Y/N titled his head in 4S' direction at the mention of video games, interested in hearing out what 4S had to say about them, "Why?"
"I really enjoy reading the stories the humans came up with in the books I keep finding in the ruins." 4S explained his reason for his interest in video games to Y/N, "The idea of being able to participate in the events presented in the story through the eyes of one of the characters is just very fascinating and exciting to me."
Y/N smiled at 4S, already taking a liking in him. His smile widened a bit when a few games that 4S might have enjoyed playing flew through his mind. The human always preferred video games with a well made singleplayer that he could playthrough over and over again without getting bored of it than a multiplayer that he'll play for several hours, get bored of it and never play it again.
"What are you two doing here?" He questioned them out of curiosity after bringing himself out of his thoughts relating 4S interest in video games. He wasn't exactly sure if they will end up telling him this, because they could have been on some mission here, but it wouldn't hurt him to try, right?
"We're waiting for Devola and Popola to return to the camp." 4S replied, "Our Commander ordered me and 28D to talk with them about one matter, but I'm not really allowed to share what matter we will talk to them about with the androids other than them at the moment."
"Devola and Popola?" Y/N repeated the named that he just heard from the YoRHa android he had just encountered, wanting to be sure if he didn't misheard those names, "Who are they?"
"They're the main healers of this camp." 4S explained to Y/N who these two were, "They're not present in it very often, though. They often leave it to deal with dangerous tasks somewhere in the city."
"Can you blame them?" 28D asked her partner as Y/N furrowed his brows in confusion, wondering why the Resistance was letting their healers leave the camp to do dangerous tasks. He would understand if it was from time to time, but according to 4S it was happening pretty often, "If everyone treated me the way everyone in this camp treats them, I would be taking extra tasks to get away from this place as well."
"The others are not treating them well?" Y/N asked as he wasn't trying to hide how suprised he was by this revelation, "I thought that healers would be valued among the androids from this camp."
"Can't really answer to that question, because we know not more than you do about this matter." 28D answered, "They don't really want to share the reason why they're so disliked in the camp. The only thing we know about this matter is what 49B, 5G, and 13D told us. They asked them about their treatment in the camp and all Devola and Popola told them is that their models went haywire at some point and it ended badly."
Y/N let out an "Oh" in response, not really knowing how to respond to her words.
"By the way." 4S changed the topic of the conversationt to something else after seeing how Y/N didn't knew how to respond to 28D's explanation, "We've been in the camp a lot of times and we have't seen you around before?
"This is actually my first time in this place, because, you see, I'm not really from around here." Y/N explained, "I just recently arrived at this area."
"Oh, where did you come from?" 4S wanted to know, "The desert?"
"Yes." Y/N nodded in confirmation as he decided to go along with it. In reality, he was never in the desert. He only heard about it from A2 who kept him away from this place, because it wouldn't end well for him if they stayed in the desert for long, especially with the sun shining brightly on the horizon for the entire time.
"Desert? I can only imagine how good you must have felt when you found yourself in the city." 28D shook her head at the mention of the desert as she was not a fan of this place, not one bit, "That place is an absolute hellhole. I don't envy 11B and 47G and all other androids that are stationed there. I and 4S had to go there a few times and I hated every second I spend there."
"Not every android hates the desert, 28D." 4S pointed out, "From what we have seen from Jackass when we stumbled upon her during one of our missions, she seems to be enjoying being stationed in there."
"She's the exception. The only one when it comes to the desert." 28D stated, "Good thing she choose that place for her experiments. At least we don't have to worry about her destroying something important to us."
"Jackass?" Y/N thought to himself, chuckling internally the name this android choose for herself, "What a unique name. She must be quite a character if she choose such a name for herself."
"If this is your first time in this camp."28D's voice brought Y/N's out of his thoughts relating the unique name a certain android choose for herself, "Then how did you found yourself here? Did you heard about it from someone or did you stumbled upon it by accident?"
"I found out about this place from Pascal after I found myself in his village." Y/N replied, "He told me about it when I was about to head out of his village."
"Pascal?" 28D shifted her attention from Y/N to her partner, recalling hearing this name somewhere before, "Isn't that the leader of the village that we heard about from Anemone?"
"The one that is apparently inhabited by friendly machines?" 4S wanted to be sure if understood correctly to what his partner was referring to. When 28D nodded her head at him, he confirmed it, "Yes. That's one she told us about."
"A village inhabited with machines who wish nothing but to live in peace with the androids." 28D began. Even though her voice was completely stoic, like it was ever since Y/N spoke to her and 4S for the first time after entering this room, the human could feel a bit of sarcasm in it, "This doesn't sound suspicious at all. I can smell a trap coming a mile away."
"I'm not really suprised that you're being suspicious of them." Y/N stated, understanding why they were suspicious of it. A2 wasn't afraid to voice her suspicions about Pascal's village to him when Vick leading them to it, "I was too when Vick, one of the machines living there, was leading me to it, because all of my encounters with machines were far away from pleasant ones, but to be honest I was suprised in a good way. The machines treated me with nothing but kindness and I didn't feel like my life was in danger when I was there, maybe except for the moment when I got swarmed by the children machines."
"Children machines?" 4S repeated what Y/N just said, sounding as if the concept of such a thing was completely alien to him, "Are you talking about machines who are trying to imitate the behaviour of human children?"
"Yes. They were so excited to see a new face after I entered their village." Y/N nodded his head in confirmation, a small smile growing on his lips when the memory of what happened when he and A2 entered Pascal's village flew through his head, "Good thing Pascal and Vick came to my rescue and told them to give me some space. Getting swarmed by the excited machines who think of themselves as children may have not been the best experience in my life, but I enjoyed my time in Pascal's village nevertheless."
28D and 4S exchanged glances after seeing how fondly Y/N spoke about his time in Pascal's village. It looked they were having some sort of conversation with each other without exchanging any words.
"...Are you 28D and 4S?" A feminine voice which was completely unknown to Y/N rang through his ears, before either 4S or 28D could respond to his words about Pascal's village.
Wanting to know who it was, Y/N turned around to the source of the voice and saw two redheaded androids he had bumped into earlier standing behind him and the two YoRHa androids. They must have been Devola and Popola he had heard about from 28D and 4S.
"Are you 4S and 28D?" The one with wavy hair questioned as she wanted to make sure if she and the other one didn't approach the wrong androids, her gaze set on the two YoRHa androids, "Anemone told me and Popola you wanted to speak with us right after we arrived back at the camp."
"Yes." 4S nodded in confirmation as he and 28D turned around to look at Devola and Popola along with Y/N, "You must be Devola and Popola."
"Good to see you finally back in the camp." 28D told them, "Me and 4S were not told we would have to wait for you."
"It wasn't really our fault." The android who Y/N now knew as Popola responded to 28D's words, "Me and Devola were already in the middle of something else when we found out about you two having the need of speaking to us."
Devola looked down at ther clothes or rather the stains of oil at it as she added, "Not to mention we had to take a shower after we returned from the camp, because we dirtied ourselves in oil."
"What?" Y/N joined the conversation as his eyes brightened up in interest upon hearing Devola mention a shower. "You have a shower here?"
"Yes." Devola replied as she shifted her attention to him, "Suprised you didn't know that."
"Y/N here is new to the camp." 4S explained to Devola and her sister why Y/N didn't know about this camp having a shower, "He came here from the desert and just recently found himself in the city."
"You came from the desert?" Devola questioned Y/N. After hearing her question and the tone of her voice, the human assumed that she and Popola must have come from the desert as well.
"Yes." Y/N nodded his head, making up more things as he went further into this conversation, "I don't think I will be going back there anytime soon. You have no idea how relieved I felt after found myself in the city after spending..." He paused for a moment, trying to make himself look more believable, "I'm not exactly sure how much time I spent just wandering around it."
"Tell me about it." Devola agreed with Y/N about not wanting to go back to the desert anytime soon, confirming his theory about her and Popola being from the desert, "Me and Popola go into the desert whenever we receive a task that requires of us to do so, but I don't think we will be going back there to just wander around it anytime soon."
"Same here." Y/N agreed with Devola, "Could either of you show me where I can find a shower?" He asked as he shifted his gaze between Devola and Popola in an almost pleading manner, not wanting to miss the opportunity of having the first bath since his awakening in the abandoned building, "I think I could use some washing, because it's been a while since I did it."
"I can lead you to them if you want to." Popola offered to take Y/N to the part of the camp with the showers.
"Sister." Devola said before Y/N could answer to Popola's offer as she glanced at her sister, "I believe this will have to wait. We already have something else to take care of."
"You're right." Popola agreed with her sister, "28D and 4S already lost too much time, because of us."
"Actually." 28D said, earning Devola's and Popola's attention, "Me and 4S already waited for you two for quite some time. Five more minutes won't make any difference."
Devola exchanged a look with Popola as soon as those words left 28D's mouth. She said to her sister shorty after they exchanged looks, "If you want to show him the way, then I won't stop you."
Popola nodded her head and looked at Y/N, "Let's go. It's not too far from here. It shouldn't take us long to get there."
Y/N nodded his head at her, "Lead the way."
Popola turned away from the others and walked out of the room, with Y/N following her. The walk to the part of the camp with the showers went in silence. Neither of them said anything to each other. It's not like the walk was a long one. It lasted only a minute, maybe two. Y/N couldn't exactly say. It's not like he paid much attention to how much time it took him and Popola to get there.
Popola grabbed the door handle and twisted it. She pushed the door open, before walking into the room and Y/N followed her into room. The human eyed the room right after he entered it. The room wasn't anything extraordinary. It had a few bathroom stalls separated from each other by the thin walls. Each bathroom had small boxes connected to it. They must have been for the clothes and the other things.
"This is the bathroom." Popola gestured to the stalls in front of her and Y/N, "I don't believe you will need my help anymore. I will get going on. My sister is waiting for me with 28D and 4S."
"Alright." Y/N looked at her and nodded his head at her in a grateful manner, "Thank you for showing me the way to this place."
Popola was silent for a moment as if she was not used to the other androids thanking her and offered him a nod of her head in return, "It was no problem."
She turned away from Y/N and walked out of the bathroom, closing the door behind her. Y/N made his way to the closest bathroom stall and began himself for the shower, looking forward to his first shower in days. He opened the door to the stall and saw every item he need to take a shower, like a towel or the soap.
He placed his bat in the box for the clothes and took off his backpack, before placing it in the box as well. He began stripping himself off his clothes afterwards, starting with his boots and socks and ending with his underwear. He placed all of his clothes in the box alongside his other things. He entered the bathroom stall and closed the door behind him. He turned the shower on and warm water poured down at him from above.
Y/N smiled to himself right after warm water touched his body and slided down it to the floor.
It felt great.
He placed his hands against the wall in front of him and let out a sigh, enjoying the feeling of warm water touching his body, thinking to himself, "This is how characters from post apocalyptic stories must have felt whenever they got an opportunity to wash themselves in warm water."
Not wanting to waste him and time and water, he reached out for the soap and grabbed it, before starting to cover himself in it. He moved the soap all over his body, covering himself in it, his smile widening, because of how comfortable he felt right now. He always enjoyed warm showers, but this time felt different to him, because of what kind of situation he found himself into.
He was forced out of his thoughts a moment later when he was putting some shampoo on his hair, because the door to the bathroom was opened. He looked over his shoulder as he listened to the sound of two pairs of heels touching the floor of the bathroom as the two androids were making their way towards the free bathroom stalls.
"...How many times will I have to apologize for it to you, 47G?" A female voice rang through his ears shorty after. Y/N recalled hearing this name somewhere before. He remembered where he heard it a few seconds later. He heard about her from 28D and 4S when he was talking with them.
"11B." 47G began as she and 11B stopped in front of the two nearest free bathroom stalls, "I'm not angry at you. I'm just trying to figure out what made you think it was a good idea to cut this large machine into two pieces when it was right above us?"
"I wasn't thinking straight when I did it. It was a heat of the moment." 11B admitted, sounding to be pretty embarassed about it as Y/N heard how she took off her heels and placed them in the box for the clothes connected to her stall, "At least most of the oil landed on me. On the bright side at least we got an opportunity to leave the desert for a brief moment."
47G let out a short laugh at her partners words as she threw her clothes into the box for them, "This is something I can agree upon."
"I saw 28D and 4S when we entered the camp. They were talking with the twins." 11B said as she threw her own clothes into the box, "Do you think we should go to them and say hi after we'll be done?"
47G opened the door to her bathroom stall as she responded, "If they will be still in the camp, then I don't see a problem with it."
47G and 11B entered their own separate bathroom stalls and started up their own showers, one by one, beginning to wash the oil off their bodies. Y/N nodded his head to himself, knowing that it was time for him to finish his shower as he placed the shampoo aside and allowed the water to wash it off his hair and to wash off the remnants of the soap off his body.
He wasn't the type of person to get flustered easily. In fact, he almost enjoyed teasing his friends alongside his friends Samantha and Troy about what his two other friends Troy and Jadis found out the hard way before they ended up getting together, but it still was kind of weird to know that two women were washing themselves in the bathroom stalls next to him.
Not to mention A2 was probably getting impatient whenever she was waiting for him right now. His visit in this camp most likely lasted far longer than she thought it will. He could already imagine her questioning him if something went wrong in the camp in her own more demanding way. He rubbed his head to check if there any shampoo left on it, and when it wasn't, he turned the shower off.
He reached out for the towel and grabbed it. He moved it all across his body, drying himself up, before placing it back in it's spot. He walked out of his bathroom stall and reached into the box with his stuff, beginning to put his clothes back on himself, starting with his underwear and ending with his boots. The last two things he did before moving out of the bathroom was slouching his backpack over his back and grabbing his bat.
After walking out of the bathroom in the exact moment when 47G and 11B finished their showers, Y/N started making his way towards the exit from the Resistance camp. He sighed, once he walked out of it and took a deep breath, feeling all refreshed thanks to the shower that he just had.
He noticed 28D and 4S talking with Devola and Popola on his way out of the camp. He considered walking up to them to say goodbye, but ultimately went against this idea, because he didn't want to interrupt in whatever conversation they were having right now. He noticed Vergil who this time wasn't occupied by anything as well.
Vergil turned his gaze towards Y/N and Y/N returned his gaze, the two of them exchanging a quick look with each other. Even though, Y/N couldn't see Vergil's eyes, because of the goggles he was wearing, Y/N could say that the android was being less suspicious of him now, because Vergil nodded his head at him as if he was wishing him good luck out of the camp. Y/N responded to this gesture by nodding his head at him in response.
The human stopped in the exit from the camp once he reached it and looked over his shoulder, offering it one last glance, before walking out of it, finding himself in the mostly water covered area from earlier. He walked down the hill and walked into the water, beginning to look around himself, trying to spot A2 anywhere.
"You took your damn time." The familiar voice rang through his ears. He turned to the source of it and saw A2 standing on his side, "What took you this long? I was starting to think you that ended up pulling out some stupid stunt in the camp that got you into trouble."
"The visit ended up lasting longer than you thought it will, because I wanted to look around the camp." Y/N explained to A2 why he stayed in the camp for longer than she thought.
"Did any of them suspected anything about you?" A2 wanted to know.
"No." Y/N shook his head, "I got a few suprised looks and comments about my clothes standing out from the rest, but none of them suspected anything about me not being, you know, an android."
A2 nodded her head in understanding and turned away from him, "Let's get outta here. I saw a few YoRHa androids heading into the camp when I was waiting for you. I don't want to them to notice me. It wouldn't be much of a problem if I was alone, but now things might end up going differently, because you're with me now."
Y/N hummed in understanding and opened his mouth to say something, "Actually..." He paused for a moment to let out a yawn into his hand, "...I think we should start looking for a place where I'll be able to get some sleep. I'm exhausted."
A2 nodded her head at his words, knowing where she should take her human ward, "We shouldn't have a problem with that. I thought this may happen soon, so I kept my eyes open when we were walking to the camp. One place ended up catching my attention. It's not too far from us."
Y/N nodded his head at her in understanding and began following her to spot that she found for him. It didn't took them long to get to the place. It didn't stand out from the other places where A2 and Y/N stayed whenever the latter needed to go to sleep. It was another abandoned building somewhere in the city.
They made their to one of the apartaments on one of the upper floors of the building. A2 entered the ruined apartament before Y/N and made sure that it was safe for her human ward, before going back to him and telling him about it. The two of them walked into the apartament and Y/N choose himself a spot to sleep in one of the rooms as A2 began preparing a dinner for him.
After eating the meat of the boar that A2 hunted down when he was in the Resistance camp, Y/N began preparing himself his sleeping spot. He took off his hoddie and folded it into a pillow, just like he always did. He took off his cap and placed it behind his pillow. He laid down on the floor shorty after, his back facing the floor and his eyes set on the ceiling above him.
He closed his eyes and began slowly drifting into sleep. It didn't took him long to fall asleep. If he was honest with himself, he couldn't recall the last time when he felt so exhausted. He wasn't suprised why he was so tired, though. He never excepted this day to go the way it went. It all started off with him and A2 going across a bridge and it ended up with him meeting some friendly machines which resulted in him going into some camp where he met some other androids.
A2 watched Y/N from her spot close to the exit from the room. She carefully eyed her human ward, noticing his chest rising up and down. She was now certain that her human ward was asleep. She slowly came over to him and sat down on the floor, next to his backpack. She grabbed his backpack and placed it on her knees. She unzipped it and pulled out the two things she was intending to use while her human ward will be asleep. Y/N's music device and his earbuds.
She grabbed his backpack and put it aside, before placing his music device on her knee. She placed one of the earbuds in her right ear, leaving her other ear free and picked up his music device, before turning it on. She immediately saw the title of the song which was going to play. It was "Motorhead - God Was Never On Your Side - Supernatural - 14x20". She didn't know what Motorhead was or what Supernatural was or what the numbers at the end of the title meant, but she shrugged her shoulders to it.
She turned the song on and the music started ringing through her ears right after. She leaned her head against the wall and just enjoyed the sound of it, just like she did back in the forest when Y/N convinced her to listen to one of his songs.
She was unaware she and Y/N were being watched from the other side of the building. A darkened figure observed the android and her sleeping human ward for several seconds before disappearing, leaving nothing but ashes that slowly fell on the floor of the abandoned building.
------
Hi there! I know it's been a while (almost a year) since I posted the last chapter. I started writing it back in March (wanted to get it done before the release of NieR: Replicant), but stopped writing it after I reached 2,000 words. I tried to go back to this chapter and finish writing it over and over again, but I always ended up adding barely anything to it and it ended up getting put on hold.
I returned to this chapter at the end of December and thankfully I finally managed to get it done in almost two weeks and had fun while writing it. I hope the next chapter won't take me this long to get it done.
