Chapter Two
I sit between QuinnDalynn and Leo at the campfire. The fire is blazing larger than normal with excitement rolling off of every camper. Except for Nico and I. I keep my expression blank. Nico sits behind me and taps me on the shoulder.
He whispers to me in Italian, my native language. "Are you alright?"
I nod.
Chiron steps in front of the fire. He pulls out a scroll and begins to read off the names of the campers who are staying. I don't know half of them but they seemed disappointed that they weren't going. I wasn't on that list. Panic struck after I realized I was going.
"Calypso will be staying as well." Chiron said at last.
Leo tenses as he squeezes Calypso's hand, panic displayed across his features. She leans over and whispers something in his ear. I hear a mumbled, "I promise."
"Now for those that will be traveling." Chiron continues. "Group One is Kassie Uraza, Quinndalynn Ross, Leo Valdez and Trey Ardon."
Quinndalynn looks at me and grins. Chiron continues to name off the groups as I zoned out and quickly formulated a plan on which route we would take. I had memorized the map of possible routes beside my bed a month ago, when the dreams had started.
"The first group will be leaving at 7:00 in the morning. You are now dismissed to begin packing." Chiron announces after he finishes the list.

I throw a few bags of shells inbetween the folds of a few of my camp shirts. Someone knocks on the door and Percy strides across the room. He opens the door and gestures for the person to come in. I ignore whoever it is, probably Annabeth to tell Percy what route they are taking. I finish packing and turn around to give them some alone time. Before I reach the door I realize, it wasn't Annabeth, it was Leo.
"Hey, umm... Kass," Leo begins and rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.
I raise a single bronze colored eyebrow at him and will him to continue.
"I'm glad yo be going on this trip with you of all people. You're pretty cool."
I look at Percy. He coughs and gestured for me to answer. I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose. "You better not be hitting on me Valdez. Not only would your girl kill you, she'd kill me too."
"I'm not here to hit on you Kassie. I'm here to let you know, that while we are out there again," Leo began, "I've got your back, just like I always have."
"Thanks," I said as I walked closer to the door. I shoved my hands in my pockets and fiddled with three shells I keep in them... just in case.
"Wait."
"What?" I asked as I angrily turned around to face Leo again.
"I'm sorry," he said as he looked down.
"For what?"
"For hurting you the way I did."
"Yeah, well, it's not your fault. It's mine, for falling in love with you in the first place."
I heard Percy sigh as I swiftly walked out the door. I need to clear my head. I walk down to the shoreline and sit on the dock. I let my feet dangle in the water and let it over take my body. I glance over both of my shoulders and slide down the dock into the water. I hold my breath, and wait a few moments. The water bends to my command as I bring a little bit of the oxygen bubbles to my nose. They rest below it and form a pocket of air. I leg myself sink to the sea bottom before I look up.
The outside world looks so peaceful from here. Fish swim by and say hello as they go. I let myself relax, and close my eyes. I smile lightly as I focus solely on the water. I let my mind defog itself and listen closely to how the watery world sounds. Somethings swims by, I feel the propulsion of them pushing themselves through the water hit me. I open my eyes after it stops. It's Percy. He points upward and roll my eyes and head back towards the surface.
"What were you thinking?" Percy asks as soon as we surface.
"I wasn't," I shrug.
"Kass don't pull that crap with me, you're ALWAYS thinking about something!"
"Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, you aren't the only one that was affected that badly after the last war," I ask softly.
"I know I'm not," He said and pushed me towards shore.
"After the war, I started have visions, and as time passed they got worse, just like it did after the titan war."
"I know Kassie, I've noticed."
I shake my blonde hair gently. "Now, even when I blink, they're there to haunt me. Quick flashes of the newest terror."
Percy sighs. "Let's just get you back to the cabin, Ok?"
I nod, knowing he wanted to end the conversation, and knowing that there was no way he was going to let me sleep by the shore.
