Why do some people want the end to come?

This is a question that doesn't make sense. For as long as humans have been around, there are always some strange people that want the end time to come, and all of them have failed to predict the end of the world.

Theology plays a big part in predicting the end of history. It's called Eschatology. Some religions don't believe that there was a beginning or that there will be an end. Christianity looks at it from the idea that death is an intermediate step to either Heaven or Hell. Based on the Book of Revelation and other sacred scriptures, the end will come with rapture, great tribulation that lasts a millennium, the second coming of Jesus Christ, and then the end of the world that terminates with the Last Judgment before a new Earth is created. All of this is fine as far as faith is concerned, but it's not consistent with what we know about nature and the universe.

This idea of a day of judgment is also referenced in Islamic eschatology. Jewish eschatology is concerned with restoration of the temple and Israel at the expense of enemy nations. In other words, it's a common theme, and I think that this fascination with final retribution for sins and crimes is part of human desire for justice. Sometimes this desire results in bizarre actions and events.

There have been hundreds of predictions of the apocalypse. Some of the more recent include: December 21, 2012 the Mayans predicted that the world would be destroyed by an asteroid; Aug 23, 2013 Rasputin prophesized the end of the world and Jesus Christ's return; May 27, 2013 Ronald Weinland predicted that Jesus would return and the world would end; Aug-Oct, 2011 Many predicted that the comet Elenin would cause major calamities on Earth; Oct 21, 2011 Harold Camping predicted a devastating earthquake would be the start of the end of the world on May 21; April 29, 2007 Pat Robertson predicted the end of the world; September 12, 2006 The House of Yahweh predicted the start of nuclear war; etc.
Actually, there have been predictions like this going back to 66-70 AD when the Essene sect of Jewish ascetics predicted the arrival of the Messiah to end the Roman occupation. This would represent the end time in Jewish eschatology. And at 1000 AD, people thought that the Millennium Apocalypse was going to happen. Many sold everything and entered churches to await the second coming. They were bummed out when Jan 1 came and they had to go back to work.

What's the reason for all of these botched predictions? Why do people want the end time to come? I believe that most people are fed up with their present situation, including their job, marriage, heath, political events, government status, breakup, or they're just melancholy about life. They want change, and if they are religious, they have a tendency to see their situation as a sign for the apocalypse or Revelation.

Another reason for predicting the end time is that people consider themselves as being pious, righteous, perfect or superior and label everyone else as being scum deserving of an ugly death. They want to see these worthless evil people get their just deserves in the form of everlasting hellfire. I believe this is the flawed thinking (or at least the ostensible reason) that drives terrorists to commit atrocious acts of violence. They are trying to force the apocalypse. They should realize that this wouldn't work. Even if they believe that God will pass final judgment on all mankind, they are not the catalyst of this end time scenario. They're misguided zealots with no kindness or love in them, or they are demented. Take your pick.

Life on this planet is difficult enough without these crazed idiots trying to bring about the apocalypse. My advice to them is if you don't like it here, get off the planet.

First of all, the book of Revelation is not prophecy. It is not a timetable for the end time, and all of these so-called experts who try to use it for the purpose are dead wrong. No one knows when the end time will come. That's only for God to know, not us, and I'm sure that He'll let us know when it's time.
