The argument for a cosmological God
The argument for a cosmological God
As many of you know, many cosmologists have theorized that God is not needed for creation of the universe that we live in. I want to explore the reason for this idea.
The Big Bang created the universe that we see now some 13.7 billion years ago. In order for us to exist this Big Bang had to expand at such a perfect rate or we wouldn't exist because stars and galaxies would not have formed. This precision had to be 1 in a quintillion. That's so precise it's nearly unbelievable. It's as if one grain of sand more had been added to all the grains of sand in all the beeches on Earth.
We also needed many other constants in physics to be as precise, including the laws that govern how the universe clumped matter together to form stars and galaxies. These laws also had to be precise to make fusion work in the core of stars and these stars to explode in supernovae to create the higher elements needed to make the planets and us. In other words, there is a precise code of physical laws that seem to govern nature, a code that suggests a higher intelligence.
However, quantum physicists have come up with a new theory to explain how things work. They call it string theory and it says that energy and matter is made up of tiny energy strings that vibrate at precise frequencies and these strings are the fundamental energies that make up all matter and energy. Additionally, these strings are attached to membranes and these membranes make up a universe that is only one member of a bulk mega-universe composed of an infinite number of membrane universes. The Big Bang was caused by two of these membranes colliding, suggesting that there have been many Big Bangs.
It turns out that string theory demands that there are higher dimensions and that these dimensions exist near us but that we are unable to see or detect them. In other words, these dimensions could contain beings that live in higher dimensions. That could be where God exists.
However, this is only a theory and can't be proven either for or against the existence of God. The scientists say that they can't find any evidence that goes against what physics tell us therefore they don't need a creator.
However, there is a possibility that God left His code in the laws of physics and that the mathematics is where it's at. The mathematics of physics displays the mind of God. This suggests that there is an existence that transcends nature, and that is God. A God is needed to cause the singularity that was the Big Bang to form. Maybe God's energy caused the Big Bang.
Stephen Hawking claims that he has mathematical proof for the non-existence of God. He says that the laws of physics suggest that the universe could form from nothing. This is based on the idea of the quantum vacuum theory, which allows spontaneous existence of particles.
Another reasons that cosmologist don't believe in God is because of multiverse theory. One version says that there are an infinite number of universes (known as bubbles) and these universes have different laws of physics that are not compatible with life. They say that we exist because random statistics would make it possible to form a universe like ours. That gets into trouble when you try to define just what an infinite number is. There is also the idea that these parallel universes are just like ours and are where we exist or not exist because of choices we make that are different.
So, it comes down to the fact that there is no proof for one case or the other. It's based on theories that have not been proven. It's a draw. Stay tuned for more data.
