Chapter 32 The Investigation
Ryoko ended up falling asleep on me.
"She won't even let us touch her! Why does she let you hug her!" Mina cried as she watched Ryoko sleep.
"Maybe because I know the most about her." I said as my hand rose and fell with her breathing. With my other I brushed some loose hairs out of her face.
"But why does she trust you the most instead of one of us girls?" Hagakure asked. I looked at Ryoko.
"Maybe because I've shared similar experiences with her." They sighed in defeat.
"I just can't believe you can hug her and I can't without her tensing up." Mina sighed as she stared at Ryoko from her chair.
Ryoko Dragneel
What an interesting girl.
Her sadistic side just disappears around me. I wonder why? Why does she like me the most instead of one of the girls. Why open up to me when she knew almost nothing about me. She didn't have to. She figured out everything about me but she didn't have to tell me everything about her...
She looks so pretty when she's sleeping. So peaceful. So vulnerable. So innocent. So pure. All her pain disappears when she sleeps. Or around her father I notice. I wish she didn't have to deal with it. I wish there was something I could do.
She shifted onto her back. Her lips were parted slightly as she slept. Her hair surrounded her face like a halo. Her brown hair fading to pink. Her hair was spiky in places like Natsu's. She looked so much like him. Her scales shone slightly on her cheeks. Dusting her cheeks. Giving her a permanent blush look because they were red. The ones on the outside faded to her skin tone. She looked like her mother. She was the perfect blend of both.
Unknowing to me, my classmates watched me as I studied Ryoko forgetting the cartoon playing on the tv. She opened her eyes to look at me. I rested my head on my hand.
"Good afternoon." I said as I smiled slightly at her. She sat up only to slump into my shoulder.
"How long did I sleep for?" She asked as she blinked her eyes. Our classmates quickly went back to watching tv when she opened her eyes.
"Two-three hours." I said as she sat up. She hit my arm.
"I came down here at nine idiot. So it's not the afternoon." She replied sarcastically.
"I know I just wanted to see your reaction." I said smiling. She rolled her eyes.
"Whatever idiot I'm getting food." She said as she stood up and made her way to the kitchen.
"Wanna grab me something small!" I called.
"Small for you is like 15 full course meals!!" She shouted. I smiled.
"So I'll take that as a no?!" I called back sadly. A pause followed
"Fine!! But only this one time!!" She shouted back. I could hear a knife hit a cutting board and her cutting vegetables at a rapid pace.
"Dragneel. It's kinda scary your so good with a knife." I heard Uraraka say from the kitchen. The cutting pace increased.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS SCARY!!! ITS NORMAL IF YOU ASK ME!!!! YOU PEOPLE JUST SUCK AT COOKING!!!!" She shouted.
"Are you making us lunch!?" Kirishima called.
"NO!!!! MAKE YOUR OWN GODDAMN LUNCH FOR ONCE!!!!!" She shouted back. I heard the knife hit the cutting board harder than before. I heard the sound of splitting wood.
"FUCK!!!!" Ryoko shouted followed by stomping.
"What happened?" I called.
"Dragneel split the cutting board in half!" Uraraka called. "It's stuck in the counter!"
"How did she manage to do that?!" I called standing up from the couch.
"I don't know she just did it!" Uraraka called as I walked into the kitchen. Sure enough the board was split in two and the knife was stuck in the counter. I grabbed the handle and yanked it out. There was an indent in the counter now. I sighed.
"I'm gonna have to fix this later." I said as I inspected how deep it was. It looked to be about an inch deep and a inch in length.
"Gogeta let me fix it." Ryoko said as she came stomping over. I smiled at her.
"It's fine I got it." I said. Her face cracked for a split second before she resumed her previous facial expression.
"Fine. But only this once." She said as she stomped out.
"You got it!" I called happily at her back. I could tell she rolled her eyes.
"Does anyone have some wood?!" I called to the room.
"WHY THE HELL WOULD WE HAVE WOOD!!!!" Bakugo yelled from the laundry room.
"HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS DO WITH YOUR LIVES!!!" I yelled back at him.
Damn it my throat still hurts
"SHUT IT SPIKY HAIR!!!" He yelled back. I snickered to myself. And went back to inspecting. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see Momo with a small plank of wood.
"Here." She said as she handed it to me.
"Thanks! Did you make it?" I asked as I looked at the wood.
2x2. Ash. Polished.
"Yeah. Will it work?" She asked. I smiled at her.
"Yeah it'll work. The counters are made of ash actually." I said as I turned around to get to work. Using a very small ki sword, that came out of my pointer finger, I cut the wood into the correct size. It slipped perfectly into place. Using my ki sword again, at much higher temperatures, I ran it around the border to infuse the wood together. Momo then handed me some sand paper, which I then ground the wood till it was completely smooth.
"There." I said with a huff. "Good as new." I dusted my hands off and threw away the extra pieces of wood.
"Wow. That's amazing." Uraraka said as she inspected the counter.
"Ah it's nothing. Now if you all will excuse me I've got work to do." I said with a hop as I bounded towards the elevator.
"He's in a weird mood." Kirishima commented off handily.
"No shit Sherlock." Bakugo huffed with his usual scowl as he walked in.
Once I got to the second floor, I walked quickly to my room. I opened it up and entered and quickly turned the lights on. Walking over to my desk, I flipped open my computer, logged in, and began typing away. Soon I had a list compiled of all possible suspects, escape routes, quirks, and scenarios. Closing it down, I grabbed my mini tablet along with my phone and key card.
I used instant transmission to get to UNDER. The compound facility. It was a sunny and clear day, but there would be a storm soon. Troops ran passed, and planes stood on standby as people milled about.
"Hey Gogeta!" I heard a soldier call. Turning my head to the right I saw a man running towards me. He had grey hair in a standard army haircut, piercing blue eyes, and a muscular build. He was the lieutenant at the base. Also one of my closer friends.
His name was Hikaru Mizu. He could control water, the properties of water, even the temperature. On a more complex level he could manipulate the chemical makeup to make it more acidic. Which is perfect for him.
"Hey man!" I called turning to him with a smile. We clasped hands and slapped each other on the backs when he finally reached me.
"What brings you by?" He asked with a smile.
"Owari." I said, dropping my smile. His fell too.
"I see. Come on then I'll show you his cell and the footage." He said with a wave.
"So how's school?" He asked as we passed by troops.
"Same old same old. How's the army?" I asked as we entered the hanger.
"Oh you know. Same old same old." He said with a smile. I snorted.
"Apart from the fact a high security prisoner escaped." I said smirking. We stopped at a huge iron door for him to swipe his card that proceeded to the compound.
"Just the usual." He said smiling. "You'll catch him so we aren't to worried." He said as he turned to look at me smiling.
"Oh yeah? How'd you know I would catch him?" I asked as we reached the elevator.
"Uhh fortune cookies!" He said with much conviction. I started laughing very hard as we entered.
"Yeah ok Hikaru." I said rolling my eyes.
"How's Ryoko?" He asked smirking. I froze in fear and felt my face heat up.
Goddamn it.
"She's doing swell." I said sarcastically.
"Then the same then? Does she still carry around the mustard and Wasabi?" He asked as we reached the right floor. I face palmed.
"Yeah. That shit is scary when she brings that stuff out. The whole room goes running." I said with a wave of my hands. He snickered.
"She's a character all right." He said as he opened up the right door after swiping his card. As soon as it opened I began looking around the room for clues. Hikaru watched me silently. It was a pretty barren room. Apart from a small microphone system and speakers there wouldn't be a way for him to talk to other people.
The walls were completely made of antiquirk Medal, developed by yours truly. Abandoned cuffs lay on the ground near the door. A bed was in the opposite corner of the room. Another smaller door lead to the bathroom. A bookshelf lined the opposite wall. Chairs were tossed about too. The floor was lined with carpet. I knelt down and tapped it. Made of medal. I walked over to the collar. No scratches or other physical marks were present.
I tapped it in a few different places. They still worked. I walked over to the bed. I knelt down to look underneath it. Nothing scooting under the bed, I pressed it trying to see if there was anything. Nothing. Getting up I pulled back the sheets and pressed down all over the bed. Nothing. I walked over to the bookcase and quickly pulled out each one and speed read them. Which only took a couple of seconds. Nothing of great importance. There was a book on multi universe theory which I thought was interesting. While there are 11 other universes, this one proposed parallel universes, universes awe fully similar to your own.
I walked back over to the collar. And held my hands out.
If the guard took it off he would've been standing here, since the microphone is here. It would have fallen, and he could've activated his quirk. But if that's the case wouldn't the room be destroyed? We don't know his quirk however so anything is possible. It looks like the chairs were pushed back.
Looking at the extra chairs, I noticed leg indentations further away then where they were. Most of them were knocked over to. Each about 2-3 feet away from where they originally stood. Sighing I walked to the bathroom to look in there. A mirror that opened revealed a toothbrush and toothpaste. Shampoo and conditioner, and body soap stood in the shower. Everything was cool proof, there was nothing he could use as a weapon. They must observe him when he shaves as there was no razor. Extra toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, and other soaps were in the drawers. Towels were in the cupboards. But nothing else was in there.
I walked back out. Hikaru watched me.
"Done?" He asked.
"Yeah I think so." I said with a sigh before I looked around one final time.
"I'll show you the footage then." He lead me out, through the medal hallway and to the elevator. He pressed the button that accessed the security room. Once we got there, we both walked out and he lead me to the room that said security cameras.
He pushed open the door and we entered. It was dark with lots of monitors spread around the room. He lead me over to the main desk where he logged on and clicked around some things before he pulled up past security footage. With one more click he pulled up the feed I needed. Watching carefully I noticed Owari was sitting by the door, but he was speaking to quietly for the camera to pick up on. The door opened and he stood up. A guard came into view before it disappeared. Once second he was there with the guard, the next the room was empty, the collar was on the ground, the chairs were pushed back, and Owari was no where to be seen.
"What?" I said in disbelief.
"I know right. One second he's there the next, poof!" He said with a few dramatic hand gestures.
"Did it skip footage, or did someone delete it?" I asked as I watched it again.
"No. We had a power outage at that moment though when that storm hit which caused the lag in the system." Hikaru explained. Suddenly everything clicked. Or at least most of it.
So I was right. A guard did help him. And if there was a power outage that was the perfect opportunity for him to escape since the anti quirk medal always works. But what caused all the chairs to be pushed back, who was on guard? How did he get passed hundred of troops? How did he get off the compound? Did he steal a plane? A boat? Does it have something to do with his quirk?
"Hikaru, is there any other footage from immediately after he escaped?" I asked quickly. He blinked a couple times.
"Yeah sure. But you won't find much." He said before he did some rapid clicking. Multiple camera footage was pulled up, showing flashing lights, running troops, but no escaped convict.
What? How did he get out? Is it his quirk? What did he do?
"Who was the guard on duty?" I asked him. His face fell and he looked angry.
"Naoko Uragirimono." He said before he marched out of the room with me hot on his heels and very confused.
"Naoko?" I asked to make sure I heard right.
"Yep. We already interrogated him but he said he didn't do it. You can have a go at it if you want?" He said as we made our way to the elevator.
"Yeah sure." I said as we got in.
Why would Naoko do this? What am I supposed to ask him? Out of all the people, I never would have expected him.
A.N. 2476 words! I wrote this in like an hour. Next chapter will be the interrogation. Then the crossover with Shadow2190 will begin! This is gonna so fun guys!
