Chapter Three: One Foot In The Cave

"We really should get readings..." Kit says breaking out of the trance and running over to the bay doors putting on a suit and unlocking the P.S.E. Mechs, Clair snaps out of her trance and runs over to them,

"Kit, what are you doing? We have no idea what's out there! If Bioluminescence life is down here and whatever these fishes are, then who knows what else!" she yells but Kit doesn't listen as they walk into the airlock and put the Mech on.

Clair scoffs and looks towards Boran,

"Stay here I'll go out with Kit to make sure they don't do something stupid." Clair huffs and walks in with Kit assembling the Mech. She looks at them and shakes her head before getting in the other Mech.

"Comm check, Boran...Kit...do you copy?" She speaks into the comm system a brief static before she hears back,

"Check," Boran says

"Check," Kit says

Clair nods and activates the airlock as water fills the room and the doors open, the scene is magical, as the door opens the Bioluminescence life floods in, and a few of the new fishes. These fishes seem to be outlined in a bright neon blue and have three distinct eyes, the rest of their body is translucent. Clair reaches towards one, the fish recoils, and a thick layer of crystal covers its body, it looks completely indistinguishable from one of the blue crystals down here.

"Kit, check this out," Clair says over the comms while walking out into the crystal cavern. Kit turns around and walks over, their giant Mech hand reaching down to pick up the crystal fish and place it in a cooler.

"This place is amazing!" Kit laughs and starts walking around with Clair as they both collect samples of the rock and bioluminescence life. Kit walks up to a rock wall that looks slightly off. They push on it and it moves like a curtain, Kit looks back at Clair and she walks up to them.

"Clair...it seems to be seaweed that's colored like a rock to hide this entrance to the cave isn't that awesome?" They say, giddy about everything happening but Clair doesn't agree in fact she's thinking the exact opposite, why would nature develop seaweed to look like a rock and why would it grow to block a single passageway...No this wasn't put here by nature...something else had to put this here...Is that even possible? The pressure down here would crush anything in seconds.

Almost immediately after she had that thought Boran chimed in on the comms,

"Guys...You wouldn't believe this. I ran it five times just to make sure but the readings are saying the psi down here is at 15 psi..."

Clair and Kit both stare at each other in complete awe and disbelief before Kit speaks up, "Wait isn't it supposed to be 15,750 psi down here how can it only be equivalent to surface pressure, that's not even scientifically possible! I can use science to explain everything here sort of...but that isn't possible!" Kit says their voice shakes coming to terms with what's being explained to them.

"Maybe the readings are broken this far down?" She asks knowing that isn't even possible. There's no response to her question and instead, Kit grabs some of the seaweed and walks back to the submarine, Clair follows close behind them. They both enter the airlock and after cycling they exit the Mechs and return to Boran with their samples. Kit wastes no time and rushes to the lab and Boran looks at Clair.

"You okay sweetie?" Boran asks, placing his hand on her shoulder, Clair always looked up to Boran; he's always had such a fatherly aspect to him even outside of his home life with his two daughters, he would gush about them day and night always calling them his lovebugs. She thought that was cute.

Clair smiles and nods, leaning into his touch, "Yeah...this is just a little overwhelming, we should check on Kit." she chuckles and Boran nods walking with her to the lab. Upon entering Kit is already working hard inspecting samples and Boran looks around picking up Polar Bears: Can we trust them? Boran snorts and holds up the book to Clair. She nods confirming she's seen it before and Boran turns to Kit.

"Kit...You don't believe this crap do you?" Boran asks

"You don't know man! I'm telling you Polar Bears aren't to be trusted, they've been seen in strange places, places their habitat wouldn't allow them to be!" Kit retorts.

"Oh you know they're right!" Clair chimes in and Boran turns to her slowly in disbelief and she continues.

"Yeah, when I was a little kid I saw a polar bear outside its natural habitat. I think it was a place called the Zoo..." Clair says smirking and Boran bursts out into laughter, Kit isn't amused and just rolls their eyes mumbling something. Kit holds the new fish in their hands and looks up at them,

"What about Crystafish? For the name?" Kit asks and Boran wipes tears from his eyes and nods,

"Yeah, okay," Boran says and Clair nods in agreement

"What about the seaweed?" Clair asks and Kit pulls out a sample and looks at it before turning pale.

"What?" Boran and Clair say in unison.

"Th...That ... .It...Can't ... .this seaweed isn't seaweed at all...it's artificially grown, it's more akin to cloth but that means..." Kit stammers out

"We're not alone down here" Boran chimes in

And then...on queue three distinct knocks on the outside of the sub.

Knock...

Knock...

Knock...
