As usual at one fine night, Kathir called Mullai around 9.30pm!

She was excited as usual seeing "En Azhagan" on her phone screen!

K: Hello.....Pondathi!

M: Solllunge....Purushaa!

K: En aasai pondathi.....Enna pandringe?

M: Unge aasai pondathi....enna pandra na? Unmaiye sollethuma? Illai poi sollethuma?

K: Hmmmm poiye sollu!

M: Poiya? (thinks a while) Athu....... (smiles) Neenge....en pakkathule....illaina.....ennane seiya.....mudiyathu nu.....yosikele ye!

K: Adipaavi! Seriyana aaluthan!

M: Naan sonne poi purinjatha ungeluku?

K: Yen puriyale? Nallave purinjathe! Kedi than Dii nee!

M: Chumma sollathinge! Enna purinjathu...unmaiye sollunge paarpom!

K: Athu.... (smiles) Naa....un pakkathule iruntha....ennane seiya mudiyum nu yosiche! (laugh) Athane! Nee kedi than!

M: Paarda! Parvaleye! Seri en purushan...ange enna pandringe lam?

K: Un purushana? Avan.....avan....azhagana pondathi avanode inge illaiya? Athunalle....ethe katthipidichithu innikum thungelam nu yosichithu irukan!

M: Aiyooo paavam!

K: Aama! Paavam tha.....Inthe Kathir....rombe paavam!

M: Athu seri! (smiles) Cheri sapthingela? Inniki rombe velaiya enna? Ennaiye paarke kude vareleye yen?

K: Aha...Naan sapthen Ma! Velaiya.....aama! Konjam veliye delivery neraiya irunthathu! Anthe pakkam inniki vare mudiyame pochi! Athan varele Ma! Aana...un nenapa than irunthuchu! Cheri nee sapthiya?

M: Aha...sapthen Nge! Ennakum unge nenapu than! Inniki mathiyam....Amma kupdathathu kude theriyame.....ungele nenaichithu irunthen! Amma kitte vanthu...thatthi kupthuchu! (laughs) Amma kude inniki ennaiye kalaichi eduthuruchu theriyuma?

K: Athu seri! Inniki kadailaiyum....naanume appedi than irunthen! Kumeresan Mama kalaichi eduthutharu! Inthe Saravana um avarode sernthu.....vekkama pochi po!

M: Yenghe!

K: Sollunge! (laugh)

M: Kindal pannathinge!

K: Illai illai! Sollu Ma!

M: Athu....Amma ku ippo udambu konjam oru maari...seriya aachi! Eppo ennaiye nambe veethuku kutthipoge poringe?

K: Veethuka? Ingeya? Yen Ma....avasaram padure! Innum konja naal ange iru!

M: Innum konja naal ah? Yen Chellam? (Kathir is laughing here hearing her childish talk there)

K: Athu...... (controlling his laugh) Atthaiku mulusa nalla agethum! Nee thanne paarthukanum! Nee ange irukurathu....Atthaikum Mamakum rombeve nimmathiya irukom le! Eppotthuma nee avanghelode iruke? Illai le? Konja naal ange iru Ma! 

M: Hmmmm.....

K: Naan varen.....athan phoneleyum pesurom le! Ethavathuna....kupthavodane...un chellam ange oodi vanthure poren! Apparom enna Dii?

M: Paarda! Inniki enna? Unge Mama Atthai mele....paasam athikama varuthu? Seri seri! Naan iruken! Avengelukaga illai.....neenge avenge mele vechiruke inthe paasathukagave irupen!

K: Appedi sollu Ma! Ippothan nee Pondathi! En Chamathu Pondathi!

M: Chamathu Pondathi ya? Seri Seri! Inniki Meena ennaku call pannange! Akka, Kanna, Athai kude enkitte pesunange! Ellam ennaiye ange miss pandrangelama!

K: Oh....miss pandrangela? Athu seri! Kalaike inge vere yaarume illaiye....athan unnaiye miss pannirupange! Nee vere!

M: Yenghe....athelam irukaathu! Naangelam eppothum onna tha ethum seivom le ange veethule.....athan naan oru aale ange illainathum kandipa ennaiye miss than pannirupange!

K: Athu seri! (Kathir pretends like yawning) Nee.....nee....ippediye nambikithu iru!

M: Thukam varutha ungeluku?

K: Aama Ma! Naan thungethuma? Nee valakam pole...kalaile call panni elupividuriya? Vere ethum iruka enna?

M: Velaiyum inniki rombe nu sonninge le! Vere ethum illai Nghe! Neenge thungunge! Naa kalaile call pandren!

K: Appe seri! Goodnight Ma!

M: Good night Chellam! Love you!

K: Love You Pondathi! Bye!

M: Bye Purushaaa!

Both disconnects the call happily!

M (to herself): Paavam avenghe! Kalaipa irukange pole! Thungethum! Nalaiki paarthukelam! Nambelum thungelam! (Mullai sleeps)

K (to himself): Paavam.....nambe illaime rombeve kasthapadura poleye! Irukathum! Nambele pathi innum theriyale! (smiles) Seri nambe ippe thunguvom! Oru mukkiyama ne velaiye irukule apparom! Alarm vechithu paduthupom! (Kathir sets the alarm and sleeps)

At a deep silent....Kathir is then waken up by his alarm! He wakes up.....Offs the alarm and checks the time.... Its 11.30pm!

He silently moved out of his room! Gets a little refreshed.....came back to his room.....He gets ready, takes his mobile and then takes a bag from the shelf and went out of his room to the hall! Walking silently without disturbing anyone there! He opened the entrance door and peeked out silently and closed back the door silently! He then takes his bike....moves the bike without starting it to a distance from the house...He then started the bike and drove safely!

Where is Kathir heading towards at this odd time? And why at this odd time?

And why is he going without telling anyone? What is he up to at this moment?

After a few minutes - He had reached his destination! He stopped his bike just a few distance far from the location he was about to go!

He took his mobile out and checked the time on it..... It shows 11.53pm! He then without thinking much......Called.......

En Azhagi (on his phone screen)

In Mullai's room –

She was in a deep sleep! She jerked as the mobile rings at this odd time! She took the phone in her hands and checked who is calling at this time......

And it was En Azhagan on her phone screen!

M: Ivanghela? Ippo yen call pandrange? Yaarukum ethum....? (mobile stops ringing) Achachoooo......ninnuruche! (as she wants to call him back – the mobile rings again – its him again – she picks at the first ring itself)

Phone talk –

M: Hello..... (little pathatham in her voice) Yenghe? Yenna aachi? Ippo yen...call pannirukinge? Yaarukum.......

K: Hello! Mulla! Mulla! (trying to calm her down) Iru Ma! Ippo yen ippedi patharure? Onnum illai! Naan chumma tha call panne!

M: Ennanghe neenge? Ippo call panna...patherame enna seivangelam? Chumma va?

Kathir checks time on his mobile.....its 11.55pm!

K: Athu...onnum illai! Ippo nee enge iruke? Un roomlaiya?

M: (still confused) Aama Nghe! Room le than! Yen?

K: Cheri...ippo odane konjam veliye poriya?

M: Veliye va? Innerathu ka? Enge Nghe pogenum?

K: Aama! Unge veethu vaasal ku tha....po!

M: Vaasal ka? Yethuku?

K: Enna ivvalo kelvi kekure nee? Cheri...nee engum poge venam! Naan phone eh vekiren!

M: Aiyooo kovapadathinge! Thoo poren!

K: Aha...seri! Naan line le iruken! Nee Po!

M (mindvoice): Enna aachi ivangheluku? Innerathuku...vaasal ku poge solrange! Cheri poiyi than paarpom!

Mullai quickly gets up and goes out of her room silently! Luckily both her parents were sleeping in their room and they could not have notice her! She quickly peek out of the house!

M: Hello! (K: Sollu Mulla!) Yenghe! Naan vaasal ku poithen!

K: Poithiya? (He is actually watching her) Seri appediye vanthu....veli gate eh thore!

M: Veli gate ah? Thorakenuma? (She sees around....Its so dark) Yenghe ennaku bayama iruku! Ippo ethuku? Yaarum thidirnu vantha enna seirathu?

K: Yen bayapadure? Yaarum vare maathange! Inthe Kathir pondathi ippedi bayapedelama? Po! Gate eh thore Ma....

M: Athu seri! (smiles) Poren..... (opens the gate) Thoranthuthen!

K: Appediye...konjam veliye po! Un valathu pakkam po!

M: Veliye va....Poren! Valathu pakk.....poithen! (K: Nillu!) Ninnuthen! 

K: Kanne mudi....angeye nillu! 

M: Inthe iruthule....kanne mudi nikkenuma? Yenghe? Yennaghe aachi ungeluku? 

K: Solrathe mathum sei Mulla! (M: Hmmm seri Nghe!)

Mullai closes her eyes and stand still there! Kathir disconnects the call! He got down from the bike and starts walking quietly towards her......and stands in front of her!

K: Happy Birthday Pondathiiiii! (Its sharp 12am now)

Mullai was totally frozen hearing his voice very near to her! She quickly opens her eyes! Tears rolled down her cheeks! She ran and hugged him! He hugged her back and again.....

K: Pirantha naal vaalthukal Mulla!

M: Yenghe? Vaalthu....solle.....ippo.....

K: Athelam irukathum! Cheri vaa....ulle polam! (Mullai couldn't believe whats happening in front of her eyes)

Kathir took her out of their embrace! But not letting her go, he holds her by her shoulders.....he made her walk with him inside the gates and closed the gates! And made her sit down at the house entrance...where she usually sits down and talks with her parents while having their tea!

K: Mulla! (taps on her shoulder – Mullai jerks)

M: Aha..... Yenghe! (placing her face on his chest with tears in her eyes)

K: Ey! Enna aachi? Enna paaru Ma! (lifting her head) Porantha naal athuvuma....yen azhure?

M: Porantha naal ah? (silent) Aama.....ange gate kitte.....Happy Birthday....thanne sonninge? 

K: Seriya pochu po! (laugh)

M: Aama...vaalthu solleva.....ippo...inge.....innerathuku...vanthinge?

Mullai takes her mobile and check the phone screen..... It shows 26 November / 12.01am!

K: Aama! Vaalthu sollethan vanthen!

M: Eppadi Nghe? En porantha naal ennake maranthuruchu? Neenge...eppadi? 

K: Athu...ellam appedithan! (smiles)

M: Ithe....phone le sollirukelame Nghe? Yen ivvolo thurathuku.....inthe iruthule varenum?

K: (little frustrated) Ethu? Phone le sollenuma? (smiles) Yen Ma? Ippo naan inge vanthathule enna aachi? (childish face) Pidikeleya?

M: Pidichiruku.....avvolo pidichiruku! (hugs him)

K: Ippedi en pondathi santhosam padurathe.....nerule paarkure santhosam....phone le varuma sollu? Illai ippedi.....phone le kathipidike mudiyuma sollu? (laugh)

M: Athu seri! (hits him on his chest) Aama....Ange veethule yaarukum theriyame thanne vanthinge?

K: Pinna.....sollitha vare mudiyum! (smiles)

M: Athane! (smiles)

K: Seri..... Intha Ma! (Kathir holds her right hand and hands in to her the bag he brought)

M: Yennanghe ithu?

K: Pirichi paaru Ma! En pondaathi ode porantha naal ku....un chellathode chinna gift!

M: Gift ah? Ennaka?

Mullai opens the bag with so much of excitement in her face – Kathir is admiring his childishness! 

What was inside the bag?

M: Adade....azhaga iruke! Blue pink orange.....Colour combo semma Chellam! (As she opens the saree) Thecha blouse um ulleye iruke? Eppadi nghe?

K: Athu... (smiles) shelf le irunthe unnode oru blouse eduthu poiyi theike kuduthen!

M: Paarda! (she still digs the bag) Ulle vere etho iruke? (it's a box) Ithu enna box eh? 

K: Pirichu paaru Ma! (she opens the box) 

M: Wow! Ivvalo jimmiki ya? Azhaga irukunge! 

K: Pidichiruka?

M:  Rombe pidichiruku! Thanks! (Mullai kisses Kathir's right cheek) 

K: Paaaahhhhhh!!!!!!

M: Ippedilam vanthu....surprise kudupinge....athuvum gift oode nu.....naan nenaichu kudepaarkele! Rombe santhosama iruku Chellam! (hugs him)

K: (hugging her back) Unnaku seiyame vere yaarku Ma seiven? Ippediye eppothum....nee santhosama irukanum!

M: Kandipa santhosama irupen! Neenge ennode irukum bothu......vere enna venum! Santhosama vechipinge ennaiye! Ennaku theriyum! (smiles)

K: Seri....naan kelambathuma?

M: Kelambe poringela?

K: Aama Ma! Neram aaguthule! Veethule yaarum kandupidichiri porange! Ange....veethu kathave vere chumma tha saathithu vanthen!

M: Aiyayoooo.....seri appe kelambunge! (gets off of their embrace)

K: Vaa...gate eh puthithu...nee ulle po Ma!

Mullai goes with Kathir to the gate......Kathir goes outside the gate.....She locked the gate....

M: Paarthu Nghe! Naan ulle poren! (turned and walked towards in the house)

K: Mulla! (she turned in jiff)

M: Ennaghe?

K: Kalaile.....anthe podave....athule oru jodi jimiki....pothuthu...ready ah iru..... (Mullai see him in astonishment)

K: Naan varen! Kuil ke poithu varelam! (raising his eyebrows to her)

M: Cheringe! (shy) Veethuku poithu.....call pannunge!

K: Cheri! Nee ulle po Ma!

Mullai goes in....turns and sees him....He is still waiting for her to go in.....She goes in the house....Locked the door and sees him through the window.....He is still there.....She waved bye at him... He waved her back....He starts the bike and moved from there! She goes inside her room happily and locked the door!

Suddenly.....

Crekkkk.....

The door next to Mullai's room opens!

Who was it?

It was.......

Murugan Appa!

Did he saw Kathir?

Did he saw whatever happened just now?

Yes! Of course! 

He saw Kathir and everything that just happened! He woke up after hearing Mullai's first mobile ring itself! He kept silent to see what's going on at this odd time! He heard the sound of doors being opened, the gate sounds! So, he just waited at the window in his room and watched everything from there! He was very much elated to see.....His Mappilai  who is here at this odd time just to surprise His Magal.....nope.....Its Kathir's Manaivi now....in this midnight! He felt so proud! And prayed to God, "Muruga.....ivangele ippedi parka rombe nimmathiya iruku, ippediye eppothum irukanum, Pa!" He didn't want to disturb Mullai who is already in her own world! He left to kitchen and drank some water and came back to his room and locked the door and slept peacefully!

But Mullai dint realize this at all! She was in her own world! She was sitting on her bed! Thinking about how Kathir had been these days! She felt so blessed having him in her life! Happy tears rolled down her cheeks! "Enna Manushan Ivanghe" and she smiled to herself!

After a few minutes.....her mobile rings.....

En Azhagan on the phone screen......She picked in the first ring.....

K: Mulla! Naan veethuku vanthen Ma!

M: Seringhe! Veethule yaarum paarthangela? Ippo enge irukinge?

K: Illai Ma! Nallavele yaarum paarkele! (smiles) Nambe room le tha iruken!

M: Appe seri! Nalla thungunghe Chellam! Naa kalaile call pandren!

K: Hmmm seri! Neeyum nimmathiya thungu Ma! 

M: Veikeva? 

K: Meendum....Happy Birthday dii Pondathi!

M: Thanks daa Purushaa!

K: Good night Ma! Love you!

M: Good night.....Love you too Chellam!

Both disconnects the call....and slept happily and peacefully!
