1- Driving 101

(FIVE YEARS LATER)

Antonio stood with his hands cupped together resting against his legs, as he looked down at Harlow's headstone, he had been talking to her for hours filling her in on Gabriella, and Isabella's lives, how much they've grown, how well they've been, and how much help they've been with their siblings.

"Damn... I can't believe it's been ten years since you've passed." Antonio said sadly, pinching the bridge of his nose "I know you have given me another life; I have to admit, it's been a wonderful one, but I still miss you terribly. Our girls have grown up to be such beautiful young ladies, and they look so much like you; you would be so proud."

He looked up at the sky, and breathed heavily through his nostrils, when he felt tears forming in his eyes. He then felt a hand rest on his shoulder, lowered his head, and started wiping away the tears.

"I thought I might find you here."

"It's been some time since I've come out here, and visited her. I felt I needed to talk to her about the girls, give her updates, and had to tell her that the girls started driver's ed... oh how scary that is." Antonio chuckled, turning his head to look at Ethan.

"Yea, you better make sure the brakes are in working order on all your vehicles, and let everyone know they better stay off the roadways, and sidewalks." Ethan grinned, as he squeezed Antonio's shoulder.

"No shit, this is definitely one thing that I'm not ready for."

"Well, you better get used to it, you have six more after these two." Ethan chuckled, playfully smacking Antonio's back.

"Don't remind me." he sighed.

Ethan kneeled while looking at Harlow's headstone "Don't worry sis, I'll help make sure the girls learn to drive safe, I'm sure you would rather have me teach them how to drive, than this putz standing next to me." he chuckled.

"Watch it, that's my line you're using there." Antonio growled, giving him a shove "What are you doing here anyway?"

"Your wife called looking for you, she said that she had been trying to get a hold of you, and that your phone was turned off... she sounded stressed out."

Ethan walked behind Antonio, and stopped "Maybe you just need to go home, take her to bed, and give her the ole rumpleforeskin."

Antonio smirked while turning around, and gave Ethan a playful shove "I'm sure she's stressed about the girls; they've been on her nonstop, wanting her to take them driving. Maybe you and I should take the girls out driving."

Antonio said his goodbyes to Harlow, and looked over at Ethan sighing "Come on, let's get this out of the way."

On his way home, he called Sadie to find out what was going on. Ethan was right, she sounded off, and stressed out. The moment he pulled up to the house, he had a what the fuck moment. He noticed the mailbox was knocked over, and saw tire tracks in the yard. He sighed, and sat in the driveway with his head hung low rubbing his temples, knowing one of the girls ran the mailbox over. He knew he was about to get an earful the moment he walked in the door, and prepared himself for it.

Ethan pulled up behind Antonio, and laughed as he got out of his car. He noticed the damage while pulling into the driveway, and turned to look at the yard, and mailbox. He walked over to Antonio's car, and knocked on the window with a shit eating grin on his face. "What did I just get done saying earlier? Was it, everyone needs to stay off the roadways, and sidewalks?" he laughed, and took a step back so Antonio could get out of his car.

"I guess we know why Sadie sounded stressed out." Antonio groaned, frustrated, he shut the door hard. "I'm glad you're here, I'm not so sure I want to walk in there by myself."

"Well look who has been trying to teach them how to drive." Ethan says, nudging Antonio.

"Not funny Ethan."

The closer they walked towards the door; the clearer Antonio could hear the kids screaming throughout the house. Antonio sighed hard, and cleared his throat before opening the door. "Did you bring your ear plugs with?" he asked, as he held onto the doorknob.

Ethan shook his head no, and laughed.

"Big mistake, you're going to need them the moment I open this door." Antonio chuckled.

"Daddy!" Aria screamed when she saw Antonio walk through the door, he picked her up as she ran up to him, and gave her a hug "Where's your momma?"

Aria shrugged her shoulders, and looked behind her "I think she's upstairs." she says, pointing up the stairs.

Ethan couldn't help but chuckle on the inside, all he saw were kids running throughout the house, screaming, and chasing each other. He then noticed Gabriella sitting at the table in tears, and walked over to her.

Pulling out a chair, he sat down across from her, folded his hands, and rested them on the table. He tilted his head to the side, and studied her face. "I take that's your lovely artwork outside?" he asked, smirking.

Gabriella sat there expressionless, and lowered her head "Nothing lovely about it." she said quietly, while sniffling.

"I think it's beautiful." he grinned, trying to cheer her up.

"What did Dad say?" she asked, as she slowly lifted her head.

"Nothing much, only that he knew it was you, or Izzy that did it. How did you manage to do that anyway?"

"I was driving up to the driveway faster than I should have been, mom told me to slow down before turning into the driveway, and instead of hitting the brake, I hit the gas pedal."

"You know there are two pedals under there, one to go forward, and one to slow down, or stop." he smiled.

"I know! She scared me when she was yelling to slow down, I got nervous, and when I lifted my foot to hit the brake, that's when I accidently hit the gas pedal."

Ethan laughed, but also felt sorry for her at the same time. Since he, and Antonio were going to take them driving, he figured he would take her, and let Antonio take Isabella. He didn't want her feeling any worse than she did already, and didn't want Antonio getting on her case.

"Who was all in the vehicle, was it all of you kids?"

"Mom, Izzy, and the three youngest."

"It could have been worse; you could have hit another car, or person."

Meanwhile, Antonio walked upstairs and saw their bedroom door closed, he opened the door slowly, and peeked his head through the crack of the door. He saw she was sprawled out on the bed with the back of her hand covering her eyes, and walked into the room, shutting the door behind him. "Rough day?"

"Trying to be sarcastic, are you?" she snapped.

"Why are you hiding in here?"

"I needed a break, and some quiet time... all the kids have been testing me today."

Sadie felt the bed dip beside her, slid her hand up to her forehead, and looked over at Antonio. He gave her a smile, and lowered his head down inches away from her face, while pressing his fists down onto the bed on each side of her "I still love you." he said lowly, before gently placing a kiss on her lips. "Are you going to hide in here for the rest of the night?"

"No." she whispered, then sighed "I take it you saw the mailbox?"

He sat back up and ran his hand through his hair, chuckling "The mailbox, the yard... what the hell happened?"

"Gabriella wanted to drive back from the grocery store, at first I wasn't going to let her, but ended up giving in when she looked hurt after I told her no. She was coming in hot, and I yelled for her to slow down, next thing I know, she's bouncing off the mailbox, and driving through the yard."

"I suppose all the kids were in the van?"

"It was the Suburban that we were in, Brandon, Luca, and Lilliana were with my mom at the time, but the other kids were with."

He stood up, and walked towards the door, then stopped before opening the door, and turned to look at Sadie "Ethan and I are going to take the girls out driving, would you like for us to take the kids with?"

Sadie groaned while sitting up, and now that she had the time out that was needed, she decided to come out from hiding "No... you don't have to do that, besides, the way those two drive, I don't want the kids with while they're driving."

Antonio walked down the stairs, and over to Ethan, and Gabriella. He noticed how upset Gabriella looked, and didn't bring up the accident. She was more sensitive than Isabella, and knew if he opened his mouth, she would start crying.

"Well... what do you think Ethan, should we take the girls out driving?"

Gabriella raised her head, surprised Antonio didn't yell at her, and thought for sure he wasn't going to let her drive again "Aren't you even mad about what happened?" she asked, surprised.

"We can talk about that later, I think it might be better if you drove with one of us from now on, and give your mom a break." he says, pointing back and forth, from himself to Ethan.

"You take Isabella, and I'll take Gabriella. Sound good?" Ethan says, looking at Antonio.

Antonio yelled from the stairway calling for Isabella to come down, she walked around the corner, and stood at the top of the stairs with Bella in her arms "I didn't do that to the mailbox if that's what you're calling me for."

"Forget the mailbox, come down here. Ethan and I are taking you girls out driving."

Sadie grabbed Bella from Isabella, and walked down the stairs with her. "Go on, he might be easier to drive with than me."

Ethan, and Antonio left with the girls, and went over the basics with them, making sure they knew what everything was for, before they headed out driving.

Ethan decided to let Gabriella back out of the driveway, his head flew back as she backed out, then his one hand went to the dash, and his other hand went to the window when she pressed on the gas to go forward. "Woah! Slow down! You want to lightly press on the gas pedal." he said in a panic, with his heart racing, and sweat forming in the armpits, all while trying to explain to her not to touch the pedal so hard.

"I didn't mean to do that." she said, pressing on the brake pedal hard, causing Ethan to fly forward, and was then stopped by the seatbelt, giving him whiplash. He now knew why Sadie sounded stressed, and thought he was about to die just getting out of the driveway.

Once out of the driveway, he explained to her again to lightly press on the gas pedal, to make sure she's looking forward, and to be making sure of all her surroundings while she drove.

He started to relax after a while when he saw she was finally driving OK, and was obeying all the laws of the road. When they came up to a T in the road, he had her turn left. He knew it was a road that was barely used, and figured it would be the easiest to teach her without worrying about any oncoming traffic.

The more she drove, the more relaxed she became; she didn't have Sadie in her ear yelling at her at every mistake she was making. He felt she was doing OK, and let her turn onto the busy roadway. He now wanted to see how she would do driving with other vehicles around her. Ethan's phone rang, and answered it, trying to talk to the person on the other end, all while trying to watch Gabriella drive at the same time.

It happened to be Antonio on the other end, wondering how Gabriella was doing. While they were talking, he didn't see the speed she was doing, and they happened to pass a cop.

"What do I do? There's a cop behind me with his lights on."

"Ah shit... slow down, and pull over to the shoulder." he says to her; he then informed Antonio that they were being pulled over. She pulled over, and buzzed the window down. She was nervous, her heart was pounding, her hands were shaking, and wasn't sure what she did wrong. The cop happened to walk over to Ethan's side, and knocked on the window.

Ethan buzzed the window down, and looked at the cop. "Hold on a minute I'm on the phone." he said to the officer.

"Hang up the phone." The officer demanded.

"Um Antonio, let me call you back."

"I need license, and registration please."

Ethan pulled out his wallet, and handed him his license, then grabbed the registration out of the glove box, handing that to him as well.

"I need her license as well."

"Then that's a problem, she doesn't have one. Her Dad, and I are out teaching her, and her twin sister how to drive."

The officer looked at his license, then back to him "Being on the phone isn't too smart if you're teaching her to drive."

"Her Dad called asking how she was doing. She was doing good until you pulled her over, may I ask what was she doing wrong?"

"She was speeding, and you have a brake light out... I'll be right back." The officer says, and walked back to his car with Ethan's license.

Ethan looked over at her, and asked how fast she was going. "I was doing the speed limit, I wasn't even speeding." she said nervously, with her voice crackling like she was about to cry.

"Don't cry, it's not the end of the world. I'm sure you'll get used to it the longer you drive." he chuckled.

The officer came back with a warning, and giving him a fix it ticket. "Next time don't tell an officer to hold on, and please refrain from using the phone while you're in the passenger seat of a new driver. You have ten days to fix the light, or you'll be fined if not." he explained. He looked at Gabriella and smiled "Take care, and drive safe."

"I thought you said she was speeding?"

"Don't question me boy." The officer snarled before walking away.

Ethan has her drive back home; she was still nervous about being pulled over, and drove slower on the way home. She made it into the driveway, almost hitting the garage from braking a little too late. "Whew." Ethan says wiping his forehead. "That's all I need is to be replacing your parents garage door." he laughed.

"You did good kid." he smiled, giving her a hug.

Gabriella went back into the house, while Ethan stood outside waiting for Antonio to come back. About twenty minutes went by, and he noticed Antonio pulling into the driveway, as he parked, Isabella hurriedly got out of the car, and quickly ran into the house.

"I take that it didn't go so well?" Ethan asked grinning.

"Jesus, she drives insane! Even my navigation system told us, in twenty feet to stop, and to let her out. I had her pull over to the side of the road, and told her she was done for the night."

Ethan chuckled "They drive just like their mom did... Although, Gabriella did good, she started off terribly, but got better the more she drove."

"That's good. All I know is, that's it for teaching them how to drive this weekend, I'd like to make that Halloween party tomorrow in one piece." Antonio chuckled.

"Oh yes... I cannot wait until tomorrow."
