23- Finding the journal

"I'm sorry if you thought I was acting strange, I was only doing what I was asked to do, and then started to get frustrated that you two hadn't hooked up yet." Ethan says, resting his hand on the dining room chair.

Sadie began to giggle a little while looking at Antonio, she then looked over at Ethan, smiling at him nervously. "Well, we kind of have been together for a little while now, I told Antonio that I wanted to take things slow." Sadie spoke, scratching the back of her head.

Ethan's eyes got wide and grinned, waving his finger back and forth from Sadie to Antonio. "You two have? Since when?" He was surprised to hear that, and placed his hand on his heart, looking up at the ceiling. "What a relief."

Antonio and Sadie looked at each other amazed, both worried that he would have been upset about the two of them hooking up, Antonio smiled while looking over at Ethan "If you're that curious to know, we hooked up the night you brought Sadie out on a date. That night it sort of just happened, and I dipped the stinger into the honey hole."

Ethan chuckled "So the date with Sadie worked then..." he grinned, loving that they hooked up. "Harlow really was a smart woman, she saw things between you two, and when she realized that she was going to be leaving everyone, she watched everything, even when you didn't realize that she was. As much as she hated it, she came to terms with everything. She loved how Sadie was with the girls and how the girls loved Sadie, she didn't want someone else raising them, and had a lot of trust in Sadie." he looked over at Sadie, pinching his bottom lip as he thought for a minute "She also saw how Antonio would look at you, she felt that you would be the right choice for him once she was gone."

Sadie felt numb and sat back down, Antonio was in shock and couldn't say a word. He stood there covering his mouth thinking about what Ethan just told them, and then thought back to when Harlow was alive, wondering if she was giving him any clues that he never picked up on.

"My advice to you, is to find her journal. You'll get every answer that you want to know inside that. Everything that she wrote, she wrote from her heart. She also wrote it for you, Antonio. Just please don't feel guilty if you two are together, it's what she wanted."

"Is there anything else that we should know about?" Antonio asked, still in shock.

"I told you more than I already should have, I'm going to get going before I say anything more that I shouldn't be." he says walking to Antonio, placing his hand on Antonio's shoulder. "Call me if you need anything, or even if you just want to talk. I miss the old days."

He smiled at Sadie. "You're a good woman, keep doing what you're doing."

He turned back to Antonio, and smirked. "Antonio, your wife loved you very much, and this is what she wants. I give her a lot of credit for doing all of this for you, your kids and Sadie. Truly shows what kind of person she really was."

Ethan left feeling that he completed Harlow's wishes, hoping that the two of them will fulfill her wishes. Antonio and Sadie both sat down looking at each other, not knowing what to say to each other.

"I have to say, I feel a little better knowing that I have Harlow's approval to move on, I guess I do need to see it myself with my own eyes to feel even better." Antonio says quietly, tapping his fingers on the table.

Sadie stood up and walked over to Antonio, sitting on his lap and giving him a warm hug. She rested her head on his, whispering "I told you that she was up to something, I knew it. Now we know why, and what it was about."

She touched the side of his face, gently moving it to face hers and looked deeply into his eyes. "She seriously did a wonderful thing here for the girls, it was a very selfless act. I give her a lot of credit, with all the pain that she was in, and still did all of this." she says, kissing his lips softly "I'm going to go check on the girls."

Antonio sat at the table thinking while Sadie checked on the girls, she walked in their play room and the girls asked if they can play the piano.

"You girls should show your dad that you can play some songs." she said smiling.

Isabella ran out of the room and over to Antonio. "Daddy, come with me." she says pulling his hand. She brought him over to the piano and sat down.

"What are you up to?" he asked running his hand through her hair "Watch me." she grinned, excited to show him that she could play.

She started playing Amazing Grace, Gabriella ran into the room and stood next to Antonio, holding his hand. Antonio was shocked and looked over at Sadie. "Did you teach her how to play?"

"I did, I taught both of them."

He stood there watching as Gabriella anxiously waited to play. When Isabella was finished, Gabriella excitedly sat down "Now it's my turn."

She played You Are My Sunshine to him, Antonio wrapped his arm around Sadie kissing the top of her head "I've been working with them every day, they actually know quite a bit of songs."

"Can we play one more?" Gabriella asked her dad.

"Sure, one more then we will have to get some dinner."

The girls whispered to each other and decided to play a duet. They played Let It Be, Antonio was so amazed and had no idea that Sadie had been teaching them.

Sadie whispered in his ear "You still never showed me your skills on the piano."

"I will..." he whispered back.

The girls were done playing and turned around to look at Antonio. "Did we do good?" Isabella asked happily.

"Of course you did." He leaned down, kissing their cheeks. "Keep up the good work." he smiled and gave them both hugs.

Later that night after the girls were in bed, Antonio and Sadie were searching his bedroom for Harlow's journal. "You would think it would be in here, she spent most of her time in here." Antonio says frustrated.

"It makes no sense, we checked everywhere in here earlier, I don't know where else to look, besides the rest of the house."

"I don't understand why she would make it so difficult to find, if she wanted us to read it?" Antonio says sighing, with a hint of disappointment.

"I'm sure we will find it eventually, it's obviously here."

Antonio sat down on the bed wondering where Harlow would have put the journal. Frustrated, he rested his head in his hands and groaned. Sadie sat down on the bed behind him, and started massaging his shoulders, trying to get him to relax.

"That feels good." He moaned.

He leaned his head back against her chest, she reached her arm around his face and softly traced his lips with her thumb. He quickly turned around and pinned her down on the bed, resting his forehead against hers "Think back to when you came in here, you said she was always trying to hide something, do you remember what it looked like?"

"There was one time, I thought I had seen a black book that I saw her shove under a pillow, but that was a book." she says, thinking back.

He kissed her lips hard and smiled. "What's that for?" she asked, as he sat up.

"I saw a black covered book earlier." He got off the bed and walked over to the dresser, opening her bottom drawer and pulled out a black covered book, opening it. "Bingo." he says, looking over at Sadie "It's been here the whole time. She hid it with another book cover." He says, setting the book on the bed, kneeling on the ground as he scanned through it. As he got towards the end of the book, two letters fell out.

He picked them up, and looked at them. One was addressed to Sadie, and the other to Antonio. "Should we read the journal first, or would you like to read the letters now?" he asked.

"Let's read the letters first, after talking with Ethan, I'm really curious as to what she had to say."

"Read yours first then." he says.

"Are you sure?" She figured he would have wanted to read his first, after all it was his wife who passed.

"I'm sure."

She started opening the letter while Antonio sat next to her, wrapping his arm around her as she read the letter out loud:

Dear Sadie,
I want to apologize to you, for me being a bitch to you from the beginning. I was afraid that you were there to steal my family away from me. I finally realized that was not the case. I watched you with the girls, and with Antonio. You're a strong, caring, loving woman and I liked that about you. I knew you had gotten on Antonio's case about his drinking and I admire you for that. Thank you for that. Hopefully he's not drinking like that now, and I hope you have knocked some sense into that man. You have shown me how loving and caring you really are. I'm glad my girls fell in love with you, they talked to me every day about you, makes me feel good that they trust you. Those girls are special and they deserve someone special in their lives. To me that person is you, in my heart, I believe and I know that you will be a good mother to them, and I ask that you think about being their new mom. I really don't know who's reading their letter first, but I do ask that you give those girls a brother or a sister. I tried hard for years and couldn't, if you were to ask the girls what they wanted, they would say a brother. Haha... I just want you to know that I believe you and Antonio belong together. I saw how he looked at you at times, did it bother me? Of course it did, but I knew that I was going to be gone. I want him to be happy, he deserves to be happy and to not be alone, I honestly believe that you will be the right one for him and my girls. He's a good man, with a huge heart. What I'm asking is, will you please find it in your heart to be that girl for him? You definitely have my blessing.
Love, Harlow xoxoxo

Sadie finished reading the letter, holding back the tears in her eyes "Can you get me a tissue please?"

"Sure."

Antonio left the room and grabbed a tissue out of the bathroom. He walked back in with a tissue, Sadie was sitting on the bed, still staring at the letter. "Wow, I never expected this out of her. She really did mean well."

He took the letter and read it again, placing his hand on her thigh.

"Speaking of giving the girls a sibling, I guess I was used to not wearing a condom, and we have had sex quite a few times. I never really thought about using one, and it never even crossed my mind until now."

"Well...I have been on the pill." she said quietly.

He scratched his head, looking at her confused "You have?"

"I have been on them since I was a kid, to regulate my monthly cycle."

"Oh... I see." he says looking down, and away from her, thinking.

She noticed how his demeanor changed, and the look he gave her before turning away from her. "If you're thinking it's because I sleep around, you're wrong. I'm not like that at all, so get that out of your mind." she snapped a little when she saw his reaction.

His heart dropped when Sadie snapped at him, that was the last thing he wanted her to think, was that he thought that way about her. From the first day that she started working for him, she went out one time. He knew she wasn't like that all. He looked at her, and held onto her chin so she would look at him. "I wasn't thinking that at all, what I was thinking was, if you had become pregnant, I wouldn't have been upset about it, that's all." Leaning forward, he gave her a soft kiss "I also wouldn't be upset if you decided to go off the pill." he winked.

"Oh.... OK, well..." she said embarrassed "Maybe you should read your letter now." she says, handing him his letter.

He took the letter from Sadie, and his heart started beating faster as he held the letter in his hand, staring down at it.

"I don't know if I can read it." he says, wiping his forehead.

"I read mine, now it's your turn, you can do it."
