Chapter 37 Not Today

"Y/N?!"

I sat there, face pale and mouth speechless. Practically the same reaction they all had as we all comprehended what the hell was happening.

I quickly gathered my brain cells and decided that I needed to run. Something told me this was going to be a very hard, "Hi I'm back from the dead how are you?" Conversation.

Getting up, I sprinted towards the door, flinging the metal open and flying at top speed down the sidewalk.

"Taehyung! Snap out of it! That was y/n!" I heard Jungkook voice behind me.

It didn't take long for me to hear multiple steps, rushing behind me in a craze. I needed to lose them, I couldn't face them now, not today.

I turned a corner, making it across the crosswalk just as it turned red for pedestrians. They wouldn't dare run across the street on a red—

Yea, I was wrong. So wrong.

Behind me ran eight people, hot on my tail and jumping over honking cars and speeding across the entire intersection. I needed to gain some distance.

"Taxi!" I called, hailing the yellow cab feverishly. Straight away a taxi pulled up and I got in without hesitation.

"Where to miss?" The taxi driver asked in no hurry.

"To— to the hospital!" I recalled that the hospital would technically be a safe place for me given that I had my own body guard.

He turned on his blinker and slowly pulled out into the next lane. I rolled my eyes at his grandpa like driving for an entire half mile.

"Can you step on it? I'm in a hurry!"

"If I have to go above the speed limit, you have to pay extra for wasting my gas."

"Oh— that's right... I don't seem to have any cash on me...." I shyly stated.

"WHAT?" He hit the breaks, making my body fling forward, "Get out."

Without a complaint, I jumped out. Happy that I was at least able to gain a half mile on them. Before I had time to celebrate, two very expensive looking cars pulled up a couple feet away, and out jumped the entire scurvy crew I was running away from.

"Damn it, Taehyung." I cursed, burning my muscles again. After months of stay in the hospital, I was in NO condition to be running around for miles and miles on end.

I took a turn into a broad dark alley way, happy to find that it turned into a maze of brick walls that dividing into different directions. I took the first right I saw, running with all the energy I had in me.

"Y/N!" I heard Taehyung call, "Please! Understand that I am VERY confused." His voice echoed along with his steps as they all entered the alleyway.

I could lose them, I had too.

"Ugh which way did she go?" Lisa questioned.

"Let's split up," Namjoon reasoned. Sending off the boys in different directions, "She's not far— Taehyung where are you going?"

"She's a righty so she probably went right!"

And it didn't take long for me to hear foot steps coming towards the alley I was in. I was panicking, looking for any quiet way out.

My eyes glanced upwards to wooden beams that firmly stood connected to both walls of the alley way. Grabbing a nearby box, I pushed myself upwards, using lose bricks as a means of leverage for my weak stale muscles.

Just as I had managed to comfortably sit atop, a new person entered the alley way followed by another. Taehyung and Yoongi running side by side before Taehyung stopped him abruptly.

"Hold on shhhh, do you hear that?" Taehyung asked the latter, putting a finger to his mouth. I didn't dare breath given they had stopped right under me.

"No?" Yoongi scratched his head.

"Exactly! She stopped. She's hiding. She's alive. Holy shit she's alive." Taehyung blurted out, still obviously in a daze.

"I'll run ahead just to make sure she's not there— GOD I haven't run in years." Yoongi breathed heavy, jogging down the alleyway tiredly. Now it was just Taehyung and I in the dark, our only source of light being the half moon that illuminated the inky sky.

"Y/n.. I know your here somewhere," he croaked, "I know what it might look like, but that's not what happened. Please please please hear out my story."
I could see tears glistening down his cheeks, nose becoming red as he wiped his face with his sleeve. "Please... please look me in the eyes."

I want to.

But I'm not ready. Not ready to face you.

"Y/n, I cried for months. I thought the only girl I had found and fell in love with was gone forever." He leaned against the cold brick wall, looking down as his tears rolled with gravity, "My father blackmailed me, told me that if I dared speak a word then he would tell authorities that I was involved— and he... he's not wrong, but he's not right." He took in a hard breath, inhaling with trembling lungs. "Y/n, If you're listening, know that I fell in love with you. With the way you talk, with the sound of your voice, with your humble being, and your every flaw. With everything." He fell to the ground, crouching against the wall. Light sobs came from his throat before he whispered something almost inaudible, "Come back to me."

The hardest pill for me to swallow was his broken, split apart voice. You didn't need to ask him to know he was heartbroken. And you didn't need to ask me to know I was heartbroken. A rock began building inside my throat, and now I used every muscle in my body to keep my tears at bay.

"Please... I love you."

Suddenly the bay became a very salty and water filled place. My tears slowly rolled down my cheeks as I comprehended those words.

They were true, filled with heartache and pain, but still real and undeniably sincere.

The liquid had found its limits, letting go of my cheek and flying downwards gracefully.

The plop landed in front of him, echoing in the dark alley way, making him lift his head upwards from his dug up face in his knees. I could see he examined the droplet or water before his head slowly made its way up and our eyes met.

Those galaxies of chocolate hazel brown, sparkled with liquid and reflected the sore moon in his gaze. "Y/n..." he stood up, reaching his hand out towards me. I stared at the trembling hand, gulping down my  battered emotions and disfigured plans.

Slowly I descended towards him, grabbing his warm hand with my cold one as he helped me down my array of makeshift steps. And then we stood there, locked in each other's gazes before his eyes slid down. First to my thin white t-shirt, and then to my fish skin covered wrists. It didn't take long for him to shift his warm coat and scarf over my shivering shoulders in silence, taking my hands into his and examining them like a microscope.

"Tell me this isn't a dream." He pleaded with a broken whisper, "Prove to me that this is reality." I couldn't handle myself. Never have I ever seen him this fractured and I sure as hell had no idea how to prove to him that I was real.

"Taehyung. I'm real." I tried to assure, but something told me he wasn't convinced, "Look. See?" I cupped my hand to his cheek, allowing him to feel and hold every cold finger on his face.

He nodded his head in denial, still an unbeliever. "There's no way— your hands are still cold, this must be a dream. Wake me up. Wake me up."

I sighed, another tear rolling down my cheek at the sight of his. I knew how to prove myself as reality. How to prove myself alive.

I took a step forward, raising my head and closing our proximity. His eyes only followed my lips before he closed them painfully. A kiss followed, a warm one that proved my temperate existence as human once again. We stayed like that for a few seconds while I allowed him to feel my sweltering lips against his own.

"See?" I pulled away, looking him from eye to eye, "I'm okay—"

Before I had time to finish my reassuring statement, I found myself in a tight embrace where his head fit snugly in the crook of my neck while his hot tears drowned my shoulder.

"Please come back to me. Please say you'll take me again."

I found myself smiling as I heard those words, "Yes, Taehyung. Let's start again."

I might post again soon depending on my schedule. In the mean time, my love and sorrow goes out to all the people affected by these fires, and we solemnly thank all the firefighters working day and night to fight this blazing beast.
