Chapter 31 Goodbye
It was the next day already. Taehyung came to me once Namjoon called. The boy practically flew from the ball after Namjoon informed him of the situation.
I was really shocked, so when he eventually came, all we did was dress up in pajamas and cuddle together where I found safety in his arms, but I still hadn't gotten a phone call from my parents yet. Which was fine, I'm sure they had things to do, but they did promise to stop by.
"Hey y/n... I think we need to... talk." Taehyung walked over to me where I sat in the living room, sipping on fruity tea and making notes.
"Sure! What about?" I set my cup down and turned my attention to him.
"Um." He paced back and forth before eventually sitting down in front of me. "What I'm about to say might anger—"
His phone rang, cutting him off mid sentence and leaving me in a confused stupor.
Anger?
"Hello?" He answered the phone, a dim look in his eyes as he listened quietly, "Yes father, I'll be there soon."
Ugh. Father this. Father that.
I am sick and tired of not knowing what was going on between those two.
He put down the phone, right away an apologetic scenery greeted me as he pecked my lips and paced towards the door. "I'm sorry love, we'll have to save our conversation for later."
I silently nodded, getting back to my notes without another word. Of course the curiosity was killing me and I wanted to find out what was really going on.
As, he closed the front door, I flew from my seat and quickly put on my shoes.
Yep, I was going to follow him.
Although, it wasn't the wisest choice I'd ever made, it was an important one that I knew my conscience would rip me to shreds if I didn't take.
Slowly opening the door, I saw the last of his large back turn right in the long hallways.
Gotta catch up...
I closed the door, and pushed my heels forward, attempting to stay hidden as he confidently walked through the maze system of walls.
Left, right, another right.
He began down the stairs, his shoes echoing loudly on the metal floor as he walked down in a hurry. There was no way I wouldn't make a noise as well so I quickly took off my shoes and continued after him, quietly stepping with my socks who muffled any potential noise.
He finally turned the corner and hit the large metal door, the blinding light from the outside hit me and I quickly put my shoes back on as passing by people gave me a dirty glare.
And suddenly, he began to run.
Whatever he had going on must have been important because those legs shot him forward and almost away from sight before I was even able to slide on my last shoe.
Finally, after I had discreetly caught up, he entered a building called "Business and Administration." I hid behind plants, acted natural in groups of people, but in the end he entered what looked like his father's office. Before the large expensive looking door could shut I stuck my foot in between leaving a crack open so I could hear what was going on.
Guilt pulsed through my tired veins and a small headache began reaping in my temples. At this point, it was a necessity for me to know what was bothering my boyfriend.
So I listened.
"Hello father."
"Son, you failed."
"I did not intend to pull through with your plan."
His father scoffed, I could sense a burning glare aimed at Taehyung, "You AGREED. You PROMISED. YOU BEGGED FOR ME TO GIVE YOU A CHANCE." The latter kept his mouth shut as his father rained hell on him, "We lost an important deal because you couldn't pull through."
"I found something better." Taehyung responded.
"Better than a multi-million dollar deal? Better than the livelihood of your father? BETTER THAN INHERITING YOUR FATHER'S COMPANY AS A WHOLE?" The administrator banged his hands on his desk, throwing files, and papers off in fury.
Again there was silence from Taehyung.
I couldn't understand why he was taking it? Why was it so hard to fight back?
"Was it that hard?" The angry man quieted his tone sarcastically, "You couldn't get the poor girl pregnant? Didn't know how?"
Wh—what girl?
A slap followed and my gut flipped when I realized Taehyung was still standing like a solid rock.
"All we needed was a bargaining chip... and that idiot girl was all we needed."
I was in denial. I didn't want to believe what all the evidence pointed to and by all means, I might lose my mind if they mention the name of that girl.
"Answer me. Why couldn't you pull through?"
Again silence hung in the air, Taehyung looked down to the ground still keeping his mouth shut like a spy in war.
Just as I felt my own breaking point, his father looked up and our eyes met. Another flip in my stomach sent knots in all different directions as I stood there frozen.
"Ah y/n come in, we were just talking about you."
No. No way.
But moving against my will, my body choose to push open the door and enter. I needed to know more, I needed to figure out why.
"Is it true?" I looked at Taehyung who averted his eyes to anything but me, "Was I really just a bargaining chip... use for blackmail?"
Still silent. Even to me.
"Yes. It's all true," his father continued, "Your parents would have served well for me under my next project, but having them comply was a different story."
I stepped back. Hot tears filling up my eyes while I denied it all. "It's not true! It's not true!" I shook my head desperately, "You said you loved me! You said you would protect me!"
"And protect you he did."
A voice came from a dark corner sending shivers down my spine. A man stepped out from the shadows revealing his identity, making my lip tremble with eminent fear.
Poison.
"You were just too foolish to see how easy it was for him to swoop you off your feet." He smiled.
Tears rolled down my cheeks and stained my blue shirt, but now I was silent.
"You don't believe me?" He chuckled, walking over to the now sitting administrator who lit a cigar between his fingers, "I work for Administrator Kim."
Taehyung's father continued for him, standing up and walking in my direction, "Everything was set up for you. Those girls who bullied you? Paid. The man who grabbed you? Paid. That toddler you babysat? Paid. The man you call boyfriend? Paid."
I wasn't going to believe this bull shit. It was too perfectly planned to work and my broken heart still stood in denial. Maybe I needed to hear it from Taehyung to believe it.
"Taehyung. Tell me. Is it true?"
For the first time, our eyes met, his galaxy of chocolate brown had tears as he slowly nodded dropping my heart even lower than what I thought possible.
"Hah..." I wiped my tears in my wrist, sniffing my red nose and looking up to the administrator's grim face, "I guess I'll pack my bags."
"Oh no no no, it's much too late for that, you see, I would like to give you a proper goodbye, but since you wanted to eavesdrop, I'm afraid goodbyes look much different around here with witnesses." The administrator finished speaking and Taehyung went complete hay wire.
"IF YOU DARE LAY A FINGER—"
"Call my guards." He cut him off, and a couple seconds later, men in black surrounded Taehyung, holding him back as he screamed, kicked, and punched.
"Take care of her." Mr. Kim commanded of poison, "I don't care how, but make it look like an accident."
I understood now.
I understood completely now.
I understood that I was in real trouble.
And I understood that I needed to run.
