CHAPTER 1 My Worst Fear
Love?
What is love?
To be completely honest, I'm not sure. I've been too busy for that my whole life. Even close friends would come and go like the rising and falling tide of the ocean.
Both of my parents are well known within the medical field, so I'm expected to follow their heavy and influential footsteps. My father is a world renown neurologist and my mother a heart starting cardiologist. At the very least I had to be some kind of doctor. Some may say, "That's terrible! How can you live like that?"
My answer: I'm used to it.
In fact, my elementary school years were rushed and so were my high school years. Throughout the entire process, I had learned three extra languages: Russian, Spanish, and Korean. Given my high end educational background and my endorsed last name, I've currently been accepted and enrolled into one of the greatest universities in Korea.
Which brings me to now.
"Please remain seated until notified of further instructions." The fight attendant's voice rang through the speakers. I looked out the crisp window to see the landing pad of the beautiful country I would soon call home.
Korea.
Admiring my beautiful bracelet for the 105th time, I took out my earphones to look to the right of me. A boy sitting next to me, dark brown hair, solid sparkling eyes, and a cheeky smile. He seemed to be a bit older than me, but acted 10 years younger. Throughout the entire trip I watched him bond with someone else's child.
"Soo... Are you okay? You were spacing out the whole trip..." He broke the silence.
CAUGHT. He saw me staring and now I have to think of a stupid excuse to bounce back.
"Oh.. sorry... I've got a lot on my mind." I awkwardly mumbled trying to end the conversation.
He tilted his head to the side before giving an innocent smile, "Really? We're you wondering how to ask for my number? You know I could help you out with that." He sent me a wink.
Internally, I screamed. :)
I'm pretty sure this is what they call flirting? Did I mention that I've never had a boyfriend or first kiss? Or first anything with the opposite sex? How do you even handle these situations? BUT, despite all this, I decided to keep a calm, cool face and do what I do best. Ignore.
"Hello?..." he nagged, "I know we just met bu—"
"You may now grab your bags and exit to the right hand side of the plane!" The flight attendant almost sang.
Saved by the bell. or... flight attendant?
As I continued to ignore, I scooched past him and started heading out, but he was quick to follow right behind me.
"Do you need help with your bags? I can help!" He volunteered, trying to grab my bags.
"Ah, no thank you. That's very kind." I rejected, moving away from him.
I continued walking, but pretty soon I know I won't know where to walk... I'm the type of person who can get lost pretty much anywhere. Your girl y/n can literally sit on a flight to Brazil without even knowing it.
I turned my head to the side, searching for the face I was trying to avoid.
"HI AGAIN! So I was wondering—"
I turn back around and continue walking, a faster pace behind my small footsteps. Suddenly I felt a warm hand grab my wrist, sending shivers down my spine like electric signals. I dropped my bags in shock as that same hand spun me around. And before I knew it, our noses were inches apart, eyes staring into one another's while our breaths were intermixing like lovers.
HOLYBSHSBSJJEBDKEHWKODUVE.
A boy is touching me a boy is touching me.
"It's been difficult to catch your attention, but do I have it now?" He asked with a raspy voice.
"Y..Yes.." I stammered wondering when he would stop touching me.
"Good, I was hoping to get your number." He whispered, snaking his hand around my waist.
OH HEEEECK NO. STRANGER DANGER.
I push away his large chest, blowing my bangs out of my eyes.
"I apologize..." my words strung out, "I don't even know your name and—"
"Taehyung." He rudely interrupted.
"What?"
"My name is Taehyung." He smiled, pushing for much more innocence than his smile could handle.
"Oh! well..." I nervously rubbed my neck, not knowing how to normally continue a human conversation.
Curse my anti-social personality.
"Do you live far from here?" He asked, tilting his head to the right.
A glint of hope flowered in my eyes. This was my chance to skrrt skrrt.
"Ah yes very far!"
"Perfect! I can help you get ther—"
"OH, well greaaat to meet you, you know I'm very short on time," I said looking at the invisible watch on my wrist, "Looks like we'll talk another time!"
Wow does it feel great to interrupt.
And with that, I grabbed my bags and ran off. I quickly sat in the first taxi I saw with all my bags and told the driver to step on it. Taehyung ran outside, bitting his lip in anguish for missing my car by a couple of seconds. And so there I was, on my way to my new school, and to my new life.
Finally, I have reached my destination. Students were everywhere like ants in a nest. I walked up to the front desk, excited and nervous for the keys I would receive to my room.
"Y/N!!!" A male voice hollered out, my seventh sense alerting me of danger.
I glance around to find the voice and there he was, the school's administrator.
"I'm so glad you made it here in one piece! I am so proud that we have a top student all the way from California!" He excitedly held up my hands together.
"Oh, you're too kind, thank you!" I smiled brightly at his joy for literally just another student.
But please don't touch me.
"Yes, as a warm welcome to our country, I'll give you our best room that students can have!" He said, grabbing some of my bags to help.
"Thats very thoughtful of you..." I nervously smiled and followed him into the elevator.
I've been taught to always be polite and behave on behalf of my father's last name. Anyone medically inclined knows who my parents are so embarrassing his name wasn't even an option.
He leads me up to the room himself and continues to explain. "Every room is shared by one or two different students." I nodded in understanding. He opens the door and motions for me to come inside.
"Wow! A kitchen and a living room? Plus separate bedrooms?" I looked to him with a questioned look.
"Yes, you will be staying with my son." He exclaimed proudly.
I froze.
I'm going to be living with another BOY??
"Oh that's new.." I bellow, hiding my shock.
"Yes, he should be here any second!"
Three knocks were heard on the door. I watch in horror as I see someone step in I never wanted to see again.
Taehyung.
"Y/N, this is Taehyung. My son."
I mentally slap myself remembering everything that happened at the airport.
"Alright settle in, get comfy, and make yourself at home!" He started for the door. The administrator walked out, but quickly popped his head back in before leaving one more piece of advise. "OH, and you kids keep it down," He said, giving me an unnecessary wink.
The uncertain silence stabbed me in the brain. What now? I look to Taehyung who didn't seem to be even a bit bothered by the ever-ending silence.
He tilted his head to the side, showing me a dangerous smile.
"So, you live far from here?"
