Betrayal and Confusion

I stormed off in a rage, feeling hurt and betrayed. How could Cade do this to me? I had caught him kissing another girl, and it felt like my whole world was crashing down around me.

As I walked away, my thoughts were racing. Was I not enough for him? Did he even care about me? And then, to make matters worse, his twin brother appeared out of nowhere.

I was stunned. How could Cade have never mentioned having a twin before? But as his brother explained, they had grown up separately and only recently reunited. It was all so confusing, and I felt like I was in a daze.

I forgot to introduce myself. Hi, I'm Kai and I'm 14 years old. I love art and expressing myself through painting and drawing. I really enjoy alternative rock music and tattoos, and I'm also obsessed with anime and books - especially sci-fi and fantasy.

I'm kinda introverted, but sometimes I like hanging out with my close friends and family. I'm still figuring out if I'm an introvert or an extrovert, but I know I need a bit of both to feel good. I think being true to yourself is really important, and that's something I'm always working on.

Anyway, back to my fit of rage.

Today, I confronted him about his secret twin.

"What the hell, Cade? Why didn't you tell me about your twin brother?" I demanded.

Cade looked down at his shoes, ashamed. "I didn't think it was a big deal. Kieran has been traveling, and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it."

"But it is a big deal, Cade. I thought you were cheating on me with another girl!" I exclaimed, frustration evident in my voice.

"I'm sorry, Kai. I should have told you about Kieran," Cade said, reaching out to touch my hand.

I pulled my hand away. "I can't even look at you right now," I said before storming off.

Later that day, Cade caught up to me outside of school. "Kai, please listen to me," he pleaded.

I turned to face him, arms crossed. "What could you possibly say that would make this okay?" I asked.

"I'm sorry for not telling you about Kieran, but you have to believe me when I say that I would never cheat on you. I love you, Kai," Cade said earnestly.

I softened slightly at his words, but still felt hurt and betrayed. "I don't know if I can forgive you just yet, Cade. Maybe we need some space," I said before turning to leave.

As I walked away, I heard the familiar sound of my big sister Lunar's car pulling up. "Hey, little bro, need a ride?" Lunar called out, smirking as I climbed into the passenger seat.

I took a deep breath and exhaled heavily. "I just can't believe he never mentioned his twin brother before. How could he keep something like that a secret?" I said, feeling frustrated.

Lunar rolled her eyes in response. "Oh, come on, Kai. It's not that big of a deal. Cade probably just forgot to mention it," she replied dismissively.

"But what else is he hiding from me?" I asked, still feeling suspicious.

"You're overthinking things again. You know Cade loves you, and he's not the type to cheat," Lunar said reassuringly.

I nodded reluctantly, "I know, but it still hurts."

As we continued our conversation, Lunar mentioned her girlfriend Crystal as an example. "Remember when Crystal didn't tell me she was afraid of heights until we were about to go on the Ferris wheel? It's not that she was hiding it from me, she just didn't think it was a big deal until the moment arrived," Lunar said, trying to make me feel better.

I considered her words for a moment before nodding in agreement. "Yeah, I guess you're right. Maybe I'm just being paranoid," I said, feeling slightly calmer.

But our conversation was suddenly cut short when Lunar's attention was diverted. A car had run a red light and was heading straight for us. Lunar swerved to avoid the car, but it was too late. There was a sickening crunch as the two cars collided, and everything went black.

----

I woke up, my head pounding and my body felt like it had been hit by a truck. I looked over at Lunar, who was slumped over in her seat, unconscious.

"Lunar, wake up!" I shook her shoulder gently, hoping she would come to. When she didn't respond, panic set in. We were in the middle of a busy city street, and I could see cars and people rushing past us. I knew I needed to call for help.

With shaking hands, I reached for my phone and dialed 911. It felt like an eternity as I waited for someone to answer, but finally a dispatcher picked up.

"My sister and I were in a car accident," I said, my voice shaking. "We need an ambulance, please."

The dispatcher asked me for our location, and I struggled to remember the name of the street we were on. But eventually, with her help, I was able to give her enough information for her to send an ambulance our way.

As I waited for help to arrive, I did my best to keep Lunar awake and alert. I talked to her, telling her stories and trying to keep her spirits up. It was scary and overwhelming, but I knew that I had to stay strong for the both of us.

---

Lunar made it to the hospital, while our older brother Trevor picked me up.

He drove me and our younger sister, Peyton to the hospital the next evening.

He stayed in the waiting room with Peyton while i left to see Lunar.

I walked into the hospital room, where Lunar was lying in bed. She had been in a car accident, and I wanted to check on her. A nurse was in the room with her, checking her vitals.

"Hey, Lunar," I said, walking over to her bed.

"Hey, Kai," she replied weakly.

"How are you feeling?" I asked, looking at the bandages on her arms and the bruises on her face.

"I've been better," she said with a small smile.

I turned to the nurse. "Is she going to be okay?"

The nurse nodded. "She's lucky to be alive, but she's going to need some time to heal."

I let out a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness."

The nurse then turned to me. "Can you tell me what happened?"

I explained that Lunar had been driving when another car ran a red light and collided with her car. I also mentioned that I had managed to call for help despite the chaos of the busy city street.

The nurse nodded, taking notes. "Thank you for letting us know. We'll do everything we can to make sure Lunar makes a full recovery."

I looked around the room, taking in the details of my sister's surroundings. There were get-well cards and flowers on the bedside table, and a small TV was playing in the corner of the room. There was also a photo of our family on the wall, taken during our last vacation together.

As I sat down next to Lunar's bed, I took her hand in mine. "You scared me, Lunar. I don't know what I would do if I lost you."

Lunar smiled weakly. "I'm not going anywhere, Kai. I'll be here to annoy you for years to come."

"Haha." I said, shaking Lunar's hand.

Lunar gave me a weak smile, "You're not mad at me, are you?"

I shook my head, "Of course not. It was just an accident."

The nurse interrupted us, "Excuse me, I hate to interrupt, but visiting hours are over."

I sighed, "Okay, we'll go. Can you please let us know how she's doing?"

The nurse nodded, "I'll give you an update as soon as possible."

As we walked out of the hospital room, I couldn't help but feel guilty. If I hadn't distracted Lunar, maybe we wouldn't have gotten into the accident. I decided to call Cade to update him on the situation.

"Cade, it's Kai. Listen, there was a car accident and Lunar is in the hospital. She's stable, and conscious." I explained.

"Oh my god, is she okay? What happened?" Cade asked frantically.

I took a deep breath, "We were on our way home from school when a car ran a red light and crashed into us. Lunar was driving and she took most of the impact. I managed to call for help and we got her to the hospital."

Cade was silent for a moment before speaking up, "Is there anything I can do to help?"

I hesitated, "Actually, there is. Can you let everyone else know what happened? I don't think I'm up for making phone calls right now."

"Of course, Kai. I'll take care of it," Cade said reassuringly.

"Thanks, Cade. I really appreciate it," I replied before hanging up.

I sat down in the hospital waiting room, feeling exhausted and overwhelmed. I couldn't shake the feeling that I was responsible for Lunar's accident, and I didn't know how I was going to deal with the guilt.

"Hey, Kai!" Peyton said, running over to me and giving me a tight hug.

I hugged her back, relieved to see that she was okay. "Hey, Pey. How are you holding up?"

Peyton shrugged. "I'm okay. I just want Lunar to feel better."

Trevor walked over to us, putting a hand on our shoulders. "Any news?"

I shook my head. "Not really. She's awake, but she's not fully healed yet."

Trevor sighed. "Well, at least she's alive. That's what's important."

I nodded, feeling grateful for Trevor's level-headedness. He always knew how to put things in perspective.

We made our way to the car and Trevor drove us back home to his boyfriend Jaden.

As we drove, Peyton chattered on about her day at school and Trevor filled us in on what was going on in his life. I sat in the backseat, lost in my thoughts.

I couldn't help but replay the accident over and over again in my mind. I kept thinking about what I could have done differently, how I could have prevented it from happening. I knew it wasn't my fault, but the guilt still weighed heavily on me.

Trevor must have noticed my quietness because he turned around to look at me. "You okay, Kai?"

I shrugged. "Yeah, I'm fine."

Trevor gave me a concerned look. "You don't look fine. Do you want to talk about it?"

I hesitated, not sure if I was ready to open up about my feelings. But then I remembered how supportive Trevor had always been, and how he had helped me through tough times in the past.

So I took a deep breath and told him everything. I told him about how I felt guilty for distracting Lunar, and how I couldn't shake the feeling that I was responsible for the accident.

Trevor listened patiently, nodding along as I spoke. When I finished, he put a hand on my knee. "Kai, listen to me. You're not responsible for what happened. It was an accident. And Lunar wouldn't want you to blame yourself."

I sniffled, feeling a weight lifted off my shoulders. "Thanks, Trev. I really needed to hear that."

Trevor smiled. "Anytime, little bro. That's what big brothers are for."

As we pulled up to our apartment, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. I knew Lunar was still in the hospital, but I also knew that she was in good hands. And with the support of my siblings and Jaden, I knew we would get through this together.

Trevor's boyfriend Jaden greeted him at the door with a kiss.

"Welcome home, babe." He said after he finished kissing my brother.

Blehhhh.

We all walked inside and I couldn't help but feel uneasy.

"How's Lunar doing?" Jaden asked, noticing my unease.

"She's awake and stable, but I'm still worried. What if there are complications?" I replied, my mind racing with worst-case scenarios.

Trevor placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "Hey, she's in good hands now. We just have to trust the doctors and give her time to heal."

Jaden chimed in, "Yeah, and we're here for you guys too. If you need anything, just let us know."

Peyton nodded in agreement, "Yeah, we're a family and we stick together no matter what."

I managed a small smile, feeling grateful for their support. "Thanks, guys. I appreciate it."

Trevor walked into the kitchen to start dinner, and Jaden followed him to help. Peyton disappeared into her room to do some homework, leaving me alone in the living room.

I couldn't shake the worry from my mind, so I decided to call the hospital to check on Lunar's status. A nurse picked up the phone and informed me that Lunar was stable and recovering well, but they were monitoring her closely for any signs of complications.

I hung up the phone feeling slightly relieved, but my worries still lingered. What if there were complications that the doctors didn't know about yet? What if Lunar's injuries were worse than they initially thought?

As I sat on the couch lost in thought, Trevor and Jaden walked into the living room carrying plates of food. "Dinner's ready," Trevor announced with a smile.

I forced a smile, "Thanks, guys."

We all sat down at the table to eat, and I tried my best to push my worries aside and enjoy the moment. It wasn't easy, but having my family and Trevor's boyfriend there with me helped me feel a little more at ease.

After dinner, we all gathered in the living room to watch a movie. I snuggled up on the couch with a blanket, still lost in thought.

Jaden noticed my mood and placed a comforting arm around my shoulders. "Hey, Kai, it's going to be okay. Lunar is a tough cookie and she'll pull through."

I managed a small smile, feeling grateful for his support. "Thanks, Jaden. I just can't shake this feeling of worry."

Trevor chimed in, "It's normal to worry, Kai. But we have to trust that everything will be okay. Lunar is strong, and she has us all here to support her."

Peyton added, "Yeah, and we love her and we'll do everything we can to help her."

Their words of support helped ease my worries a little bit, and I found myself slowly relaxing. It wasn't going to be easy, but I knew that we were all in this together and that we'd get through it.
