Chapter 9: Start of Something New

Pairs as of Yet:
Clintasha (Clint/Natasha)
Loner Bruce (Or for happier non-sad, Bruce/Percy family)

There is a time in everyone's life when something drastically changes. They become apart of something.

For my dad and I, it started in Calcutta, India helping the people there and as I was filtering a water bottle for the sick person to drink from, a little girl ran up the stairs and was quickly speaking fast to dad.

He quickly hurried to put some things away and at the little girls pleads, ruffled my hair and made his way out of the house to follow the girl.

Keeping part of me focused on the task I had the other half of me sift through the air for the gamma trail that I found dad usually leaves behind.

It wasn't much, just bits of it that radiate off of him into the air, it doesn't harm anyone but allows me to quickly tell which way he goes.

Once my task was done and the house had clean water I carefully spoke that I would fetch my father and that the sick woman should feel better soon.

Stepping out of the house, I ducked behind certain objects when the military jeeps rolled by and quickly found the place where dad was.

Instead of heading in, I shifted through the air awkwardly when I saw a man with a gun outside the house trying to hide but to me, failing.

It seems that there were more than a dozen men surrounding the building not including snipers. My mouth thinned as I ducked behind a building and just watched.

Dad would be mad if I decided to just barge in there knowing there were people with guns around, unlike him I wasn't bulletproof.

So I waited, just outside their line of site for dad to come out. Not soon enough dad came out along with a redhead who screamed government.

I perked up and shifted to my feet silent and anticipated what might happen. I pursed my lips when dad called my name, I could also see the startled expression the redhead had.

"Percy it's safe. Safe like Blueberry Pancake." Dad said with a fond smile and I crept out slowly, he gave the 'it's safe' code word.

"Like Blueberry Pancakes." I asked as I threw a distrust look at the redhead and the people behind her with guns.

"Blueberry Pancakes." Dad said with a confirming nod. With that in mind I sprinted toward him and hugged him all the while distancing myself from the people with guns.

"Now we can go." Dad said looking at the redhead all the while his hand resting on my head, like a comforting gesture that I needed.

"Director Fury won't like this." The redhead said, her voice was cut and to the point.

"Then you don't need us." I said raising my chin in emphasis, I distrusted her.

The redhead stiffened, "Please follow me to the jet, it will take you to Director Fury."

It wasn't a long flight, the redhead asked me certain questioned that I mostly ignored or just got bored with.

Age, why I wasn't in school, how long I knew Bruce, why I was with him, blah, blah, blah. Most of it went in one ear and right out the other.

I was mostly just trying to ignore the air around us and most importantly the height, but dad was there and if dad was there then everything was gonna be fine.

Not soon enough, we landed on this massive ship that I gushed about. I mean it was a ship! I never was on one before and the waves were there and it was just so cool!

"Doctor, if you don't mind. The Director would like a word with Percy." The redhead said as I threw an untrustworthy glare at her, she either didn't care or just didn't care. Probably just didn't care...

I saw dad shift uneasy and glanced at me, pursing my lips I slowly nodded and stepped away from dad.

It would be interesting to learn more about the ship and beneficial to learn what he wants with dad.

Dad slowly nodded in consent and allowed the redhead to walk me down the halls of the ship, all the while I retained from babbling questions.

I was lead to a quiet room, seeming to be a sort of medical room from what I could tell. "I'm Director Fury." The man said sitting in one of the chairs with a file in his hand.

"Percy Jackson." I said quietly and detached from the conversation taking a seat in the patient seat, it was the only one not next to the dude.

"Yes, son of Sally Jackson and unknown, your stepfather was Gabe Ugliano who is now imprisoned for manslaughter and child abuse, adopted son of Bruce Banner. The adopt is legal and everything is filled out. Except for the fact that you and Bruce Banner have dropped off the radar since you were adopted. Now can you tell me what a child such as yourself is doing with The Hulk?" The man who was trying to be a pirate asked

"He's my family." I said with a shrug, "You accept family with all their flaws. Now can I asked you a question?" I asked leaning forward.

The man stared at me, "Fair enough, ask away." he said leaning back against the wall.

I smiled, "What type of iron is this ship made of, I mean it's a lot larger than a standard ship and even a freighter but with thousands of people and furniture I'm wondering how exactly you keep it up and what the weight limit is." I blabbed excitedly trying to learn about the mechanics of the ship.

Mr.Eyepatch gave me a blank stare, "You can ask me anything...and you asked about the ship." he said monotone.

Following his voice example, "I don't kid when it comes to ships."

The man let out a sigh and pinched his nose, "I don't know why I bother." he muttered and stood up.

"But you didn't answer the questions." I whined not caring if I sounded like the little kid I was.

"Come on kid." The man gruffed taking my hoodie and dragging me out of the room. Swatting his hand away we entered a large room with a lot of people and computers, "Sit there." he pointed toward a sort of conference table with spinny chairs.

"Don't need to tell me twice." I muttered and flopped into a seat and instantly started to spin it seeing how fast I could go.

I was still spinning and getting dizzy when dad and another dude with blond hair with buffness came into the room, well them and the redhead again.

By the time a hand stopped me spinning I was catching the last of their conversation, "Call every lab you know, tell them to put the spectrometers on the roof and calibrate them for gamma rays. I'll rough out a tracking algorithm based on cluster recognition. At least we could rule out a flew places. Do you have somewhere for me to work?"

"Agent Romanoff, would you show Doctor Banner to his laboratory, please." Mr.Fury said and I suddenly perked up.

(So a friend of mine really wanted Percy gushing on about Black Widow and THIS happened)

"Ohmygosh-ohmygosh, you're the Black Widow? The Black Widow that went with Hawkeye to Budapest a secret mission I shouldn't know about! Ohmygosh-ohmygosh! Why didn't you tell me! I'm rambling aren't I but ohmygosh! Dad I'm meeting The Black Widow!" I said bouncing in my seat and didn't notice when everyone looked startled at the mention of dad.

"I can see that." Dad said very amused and ignoring the surprised looks sent his way, "Percy, here." Dad said handing me a Pepsi which I just placed on the table.

"I can't calm down now! Not when I have met the Black Widow! You have no idea how awesome this moment is! I can't just calm down!"

"Son what do you know about Budapest?"

"What do you mean dad?"

"I don't understand."

"Percy," dad said calmly as everyone seemed to quiet, "drink the Pepsi and calm down." he said highly amused as I flopped in my seat, a giant smile still on my face, and heard the pop of the can opening and then me chugging it.

"The lab please." Dad requested to the Black Widow who narrowed her eyes at me but showed dad and I the lab.

As soon as we were there Dad thanked Black Widow (The Black Widow!) and quickly set to work doing that algorithm. With a little work I was sitting on top of one of the tables messing around with an old rubix cube dad had found along the way.

Something that would keep me entertained enough for dad to work.
