I found a nearby gift shop and took a map from there. I hurried back into the woods, disappearing into the trees leaving no evidence that I had ever left.
Once I'm back sitting down with them, I show them the map.
"Look, it took me a couple of hours to get the map, and it's already way past noon." I say, looking at the sun, which is now high in the sky. "We still need to eat, clean up, and prepare to leave tomorrow. You guys go down to the lake and wash up while I make us some food."
Jonah grabs a change of clothes and runs down to the lake, which is out of my sight. I'm not to happy that they're so far away from me, but at least we won't see any... you know, unwanted sightings. If you get what I mean.
Adam sort of sits there, struggling to get his clothes and hobble down to the lake. Eventually I set the map down and turn to him.
"Want some help?" I sigh, getting to my feet. "You're going to have to leave your crutches here."
He frowns. "How will I walk?"
I grin. "I'll help you."
I grab his clothes from his bag and place my arm around his waist, and he leans into me as I help him hobble down the hill to the lake. As soon as we're down there I see Jonah splashing in the water, scrubbing the dirt and grime from his face. I set Adam on a rock and hand him his clothes.
"Here, I'll have Jonah help you now. He's more... gender qualified." I say, getting to my feet. Adam laughs.
"I don't mind."
"That's nice. But I'm going to have Jonah help you." I turn my back to him and call for Jonah, and as soon as he gets what I mean, I turn and make my way back up the hill to inspect the map some more.
