Prologue

New York City. Home of the world's greatest heroes, such as The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Luke Cage, Spider-Man, and many more. And then there were mutants born with extraordinary abilities, and yet, like all others, they started from humble and sometimes awkward beginnings. Some gifts are considered a curse for those who are afraid. Give someone wings, and they may fly too close to the sun. Give them the power of prophecy, and they may live in fear of the future. Mutation: it is the key to evolution. It has enabled humans to evolve into the dominant species on the planet. This process normally takes thousands and thousands of years. But every few hundred millennia, evolution leaps forward.

At Astoria, Queens, NY

This story begins with a beautiful house in Astoria, Queens, NY, lived by a married couple, James Anderson, captain of the New York City Police Department, soon-to-be chief, and his wife Natalie Anderson, a scientist from the New York University's Imperial Bio-Fuel Technology Laboratory.

And they raised a seven-month-old baby boy named Zachary Maverick.

Then, a few days later, everything changed. James was watching over Zachary while Natalie was at work. James went upstairs to feed his son, and when he opened the door of his room, Zachary was gone.

James: [worried] Zachary? Zachary, where are you?

James looked at the crib, and his son was not in there. He was about to freak out when suddenly, a little dribble of drool dropped from the ceiling, making James blink in surprise before looking up. Attached to the ceiling was his seven-month-old son, Zachary, who was giggling as he crawled down from the ceiling.

James: Natalie is going to freak out.

Baby Zachary giggled at his father's expression. After Natalie came back home from her job, James told his wife about their son, that he was climbing up the ceiling like a spider. She grabbed her equipment got a sample of blood from her seven-month-old son and placed it on her microscope after she examined his blood. She noticed the blood cells were not human.

James: So?

Natalie: Well, I run some tests. The cells aren't human.

James: What?

Natalie: Our son is... a mutant. He possesses a genetic trait called the X-gene. It causes the mutant to develop superhuman powers that manifest at puberty.

James: So, what you're saying is that our son develops some similar powers of a spider?

Natalie: Yeah, that's it.

James: [ashamed to himself] This is my fault. I just-

Natalie: No, it's not. Our son may be different, but I tell you one thing, we're not going to leave him. We love him, no matter what.

James: Right. And how do you know about these..mutants?

Natalie: Professor Charles Xavier told me about it.

James: Charles Xavier, I heard about the guy. He's the founder of the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters.

Natalie: He gave me his number in case our son...well, you know. [points to her baby, whose wall is crawling up on the ceiling again] That.

A few hours later, they drove off to Bayville to meet with Charlie Xavier.

When they arrived at the Institute, Xavier introduced himself. They had a conversation about Xander being a mutant and all. Xavier looked at Zachary for a moment because he watched as he grabbed Natalie's necklace with his tiny hands, and started playing with it. He saw a glimpse of the future, and he knew one day that Zachary would grow up to be a very responsible man with the ability to do something for the good of others.

[Six years later]

Zachary turned 5 years old, and he's at Redwood PreSchool, trying to fit in with the other kids and not to expose his mutated abilities parents told him. Zachary was sad that no one wanted to be his friend because they treated him differently. Until he met two young boys named Carlton Drake and Harry Osborn. And the three of them became best friends ever since.

Then, one day, all the children saw the heroes known as the Avengers come to visit. They took their pictures and performed their skills and abilities to the middle school kids. Zachary gets up to meet the Avengers, but suddenly, he trips and falls, he groans in pain and sees the kids run over his crushed science project. Zachary was so upset about it, then one of the Avengers walked toward Nathan, it was the Amazing Spider-Man.

[Voice Actor: Christopher Daniel Barnes]

Spider-Man: You make this?

Zachary: Yeah.

Spider-Man: This is a wind turbine. Did you make this? No way.

Zachary nodded excitedly as Spider-Man fixed Zachary's science project with his webs

Spider-Man: This is amazing. It's good as new, right?

Zachary: Thanks.

Spider-Man: You're welcome. What's your name?

Zachary: Zachary.

Spider-Man: Zachary. Uh, I'm Spider-Man.

[Ten years later]

Years have passed since then. Zachary turned thirteen and was enrolled in Bayville High at Bayville. He met some new friends, Jean Grey and Scott Summers, who are also mutants like him.

Jean is a beautiful teenage Caucasian girl with a tall and athletic figure. She has long, red hair, which she wears freely down her back, and green eyes. Jean usually wears a form-fitting pale purple shirt with a slight v-neck (exposing naval) tan khakis and brown open-toed sandals. She was accessorized with gold bracelets on each of her wrists.

She is intelligent, strong-willed, pretty, confident, well-liked, and a naturally gifted athlete. Unlike many mutants who began as social outcasts and came to find their horizons expanded through their association with the Xavier Institute, Jean starts from a high position of social status as she was seen to be very popular in high school. But she is somewhat insecure and possesses a jealous streak when it comes to Scott Summers. And she's like an older sister figure to Zachary.

Scott was the most mature and militant, either from being the oldest or the original recruit. Scott is a handsome, good-natured, and confident leader who exudes natural authority, although he is still somewhat standoffish.

He tends to act as a big brother to the younger students at the Institute. While the other students tend to look up to him, his competitive nature and closely held temper will get in the way at times. He's also Zachary's best friend, and he always protected him when Duncan Matthews and his football buddies were bullying Zachary around.

After school, Zachary goes to work at Joe's Pizza at 233 Bleecker Street. He delivers pizzas in Manhattan. He gets a call from his boss saying that someone has ordered five boxes of jumbo sausage and pepperoni pizzas at New York University, his mother's job. He rode his 1977 Puch Newport moped to the university.

At New York University

Zachary arrived at the university, parked his moped at the moped rack, grabbed the five boxes of pizzas, and walked toward NYU's Imperial Bio-Fuel Technology Laboratory Inside the laboratory, he saw all the scientists working on their experiments, including his mother Natalie.

Zachary: Hey, Mom.

Natalie: Hi sweetie. Wait a minute. Zachary, what you're doing here aren't you supposed to be in school?

Zachary: Mom, school ended at 3:00, I'm just doing my job delivering pizzas.

Natalie: Right, I remember. Anyways, you already know where the break room is. And remember, do not go to the restricted laboratory.

Zachary: I know, Mom.

Natalie: Zachary, I'm serious.

Zachary: I know you are. Trust me I won't go there.

Zachary left his mother and headed straight to the break room. While Zachary was walking through the hallways, he saw a man named Dr. Curt Connors coming out of the restricted laboratory, wondering what he was doing in there.

He finally arrived at the break room. One of the security guards paid him, but it wasn't enough. He grumbled at one of the security guards, so for payback, he quietly grabbed six slices of pizza, wrapped them up in foil, put them in his backpack, and walked away Zachary stopped and looked at the restricted laboratory that his mom told him not to go in.

He saw the access panel on the door, but lucky for him, he'd been here at NYU lots of times when he was a child. He entered the code and managed to sneak inside the bio lab by shoulder-surfing the combination lock's sequence. This room is filled with experimental radioactive spiders and a giant machine with an unclear purpose.

A moment of curiosity leads to Zachary touching the webs, causing all of the spiders to fall. Many lands on him, which he quickly brushes off. However, he didn't notice one of the radioactive spiders crawling from his shoulder to his hand.

Zachary quickly gets out of the laboratory and closes the door behind him and then.

Dr. Connors: Zachary?

Zachary: Aaaaahhhh! Dr. Connors.

Dr. Connors: What you're doing here?

Zachary: [lied] Uh, nothing.

Dr. Connors: Hmm, well, alright.

Zachary signed in relief from almost getting caught red-handed. As soon as Zachary was about to leave, his spider-sense alerted him but only for two seconds because the spider-sense wasn't strong enough. He saw the spider on the back of his right hand, and then it bit him.

Zachary: Ow! [Smacked the spider off his right hand, rubbed it, and looked at the bite mark]

[Timeskip]

Zachary drove back home to Queens on his moped. The spider's venom causes him to fall ill, and he barely arrives home.

James: Hey, Zach, how's work?

Zachary: Good

Natalie: You're just in time for dinner.

Zachary: I don't feel well. I'm gonna go to sleep.

Natalie: You won't have a bite?

Zachary: No thanks, I had a bite. I gotta crash. Love you, guys.

Zachary went upstairs to his room before collapsing into bed. After a difficult night's sleep. The venom made its way into his bloodstream, building until it evolved his X-gene and added him superhuman abilities.

[Nxet morning]

Zachary wakes up, morning sunlight streaming through his window. He blinks a few times, horrified by his dream. He hasn't moved from the position he collapsed into on the bed. But as he orients himself, he seems to feel better. Carefully, he stretches his legs and takes a few deep breaths.

Zachary: Weird.

Be shrugs and takes off his tee shirt. Be walks away from the mirror. Zachary looked at his reflection and saw his body have metamorphosized into a more muscular physique.

Zachary looked down at his pants. They are too short.

Zachary: [thought] That's weird. My pants shrank. [Out of thought] I think I hit puberty.

Then he heard a knock on the door.

Natalie: Zachary?

Zachary: Yeah?

Natalie: Are you all right?

Zachary: I'm fine.

Natalie: Any better this morning? Any change?

Zachary: Change? [Looks in the mirror] Yep. Big change.

Natalie: Well, hurry up. You're going to be late.

Zachary: Right. Okay.

Zachary comes bounding down the stairs and leaps over the banister, landing with acrobatic grace behind his dad. He sees the breakfast his mom has prepared on the table, goes for it, and eats what he can get as he grabs his backpack.

Natalie: Goodness!

James: Jeez. I thought you were sick.

Zachary: I got better. See? Bye, guys.

Natalie: You haven't eaten anything. Have you got your lunch money?

Zachary: Yeah, I've got it.

James: Hey Michaelangelo, don't forget we're painting the kitchen right after school. Okay?

Zachary: Sure, Dad. Don't start without me.

James: And don't start up with me.

Zachary was out the door, full of energy.

James: Teenagers. Raging hormones. They never change.

Natalie: And did you notice that Nathan grew a bit taller?

James: Yep, I sure did.

At Bayville High

Zachary went to his locker to get art supplies for art class. Unfortunately, his locker gets stuck and is trying to open it. Then, Scott showed up.

Scott: Hey, Zach. Having trouble with your locker?

Zachary: Yeah. For once, I wish for this locker. Would. Just. Open![accidentally ripped the locker door with his superhuman strength]

Scott: [shocked] Whoa.

Zachary chuckled nervously, and then he put the locker door down.

At the cafeteria, Zachary approaches a table with an absurdly overladen tray of food. He sits. Jean moves past him on her way to her group. As she passes, she slips, and her feet fly out under her. She's about to crash hard. Zachary's spider reflexes are at work and he moves - lightning speed - up and out in front of her, catching her tray with his left hand, and dropping his right shoulder just enough for her to grab onto. It's one of the most graceful moves we've ever seen. She regains her balance and looks at him, impressed.

Jean: Wow! Great reflexes! Thanks.

Zachary: No problem.

Jean: Hey, you have got taller, didn't you?

Zachary: Yeah, growth spurt.

Jean chuckled, and she turned and walked off across the cafeteria. She looks back
over her shoulder, smiles, and then sits at a crowded, popular table, right next to Duncan and her girlfriends. Zachary sits back at his table. Be begins to eat. He begins to chow. Thirsty, he sets his fork down. But it sticks to his underside wrist.

He tries to pull it free with the other hand, but a long gooey web stretches from his hand to the fork. It dangles. Zachary tries to separate the fork from the web. Nothing doing. He tries harder. Another web shoots out from his other wrist.

This one flies out, to the table across from him, and onto a girl's tray. She doesn't notice, as she's talking to the friend on her right, and wouldn't touch that gross food anyway.

Shocked, Zachary stands up and backs away, whipping his arm back, trying to pull free of the strand. But his movement yanks the girl's tray off the table, sending it. flying toward him, ducks, and it sails over his head.

Finally, the strand comes free. Relieved, Zachary turns and sees Duncan wearing the girl's lunch. Everyone in the cafeteria laughed, and Jean was covering her mouth, laughing at Duncan, trying to hide it.

Zachary: Mom's going to kill me.

Horrified, Zachary turns and hurries out of the cafeteria.

Duncan: [anger] Anderson?

Just outside the door of the cafeteria, Zachary stops next to a row of lockers, breathing bards, surreptitiously checking out the undersides of his wrists, trying to figure out what's going on.

For the first time, he notices two almost invisible slits in his skin, one on each wrist. 'Those were not there yesterday. He drops his arms and pulls his shirt sleeves down over his wrists as far as he can. Suddenly, his features jolt as he's slammed with the same feeling he had. His Spider-Sense kicked in.

It has gotten more powerful. Everything and everyone surrounding him slowly to a crawl, and it is as if he suddenly sees himself in 360-degree peripheral vision. And what he sees in the back of him is a fist, Duncan's fist closing in on the back of Zachary's head in slow motion.

As quickly as it turned on the Spider-Sense switches off, and Zachary whips around and darts to the side, a split-second ahead of Duncan's thrown punch, which bangs into a locker where he was standing.

Duncan: Think you're pretty funny, don't you, freak?

Jean: Duncan, leave him alone. It was just an accident.

Duncan: My fist breaking your teeth is the accident.

Jean: C'mon Duncan, stop.

Zachary: I don't want to fight you, Duncan.

Duncan: I wouldn't want to fight me either.

Football Jock: Nial him, Duncan.

A crowd of students forms around them. Duncan takes two more swings, but
again, Zachary evades them and fast.

Duncan is puzzled. Scott, coming down the hall from the other direction, joins them.

Jean: Help him, Scott

Sensing an attack from behind, Zachary suddenly ducks. One of Duncan's cronies, who was sneaking up on him, is left grabbing air. Zachary stands and flips the guy off his back.

Scott: Which one?

Duncan's Croney: He's all yours, man.

Enraged, Duncan roars and lunges at Zachary. He ducks one, two, three, four punches, never even moving his feet, just darting his torso around so fast he creates a motion blur. When Zachary gets irritated, he grabs Duncan's forearm and starts twisting it, making him grunt in pain.

Then, Zachary throws a punch that lands solidly on Duncan's jaw and sends him sailing back against the teacher, making him drop his lunch at Duncan's face. He slumps to the floor, unconscious.

Students of Bayville High: [cheering for Zachary]

Zachary was shocked by his incredible strength but thrilled.

Duncan's Croney: Jeez, Anderson, you are a freak.

Duncan moans as he lifts his head and reveals a face covered in sloppy joe and mashed potatoes, Duncan is furious, and he vows to himself that he'll get Zachary back.

Scott: Zach, that was... That was amazing.

Zachary looks at Duncan, then at his hands. He starts to back away, aware and terrified of his newfound strength. He turns on his heels and takes off down the hall.

At Bayville City

Zachary was walking along, looking down at the fading spider bite. He turns and sees a glorious spiderweb that's been spun between the dumpster and the alley wall, the sun glistening off its fresh strands. Zachary looks at his hand as tiny microscopic hairs leap out of his pores and cling to the wall.

Slowly, tentatively, Zachary begins to climb up the wall like a spider.

Zachary: WHOOO HOOOOO!

Zachary leaps with abandonment over alleyways from rooftop to rooftop. He pulls up short at one rooftop. It is too far from the next one. He looks down at his wrist and sees the narrow slits. Gets

an idea. He turns and points his wrist at a taller building across the alley.

Zachary: Go, web! Fly.

He wiggles his wrist and tries to get the goop to spray out. But it doesn't come

Zachary: Up, up and away, web. Go, go! Come on! Go web, go!

He makes a fist. Nothing. He closes his
thumb and little finger together. Nothing.
He closes his thumb and little finger together. Nothing. He rotates his hand so the palm faces up, extends all five fingers, and brings his ring and middle fingers toward his palm together.

A single strand of webbing shoots out from his wrist, straight up. Zachary frowns and tries to direct it more. "This time, the webbing flies across the alley and sticks to the side of the other building. Zachary tugs on it. It's tough. He pulls harder. Can't break it. He wraps one hand around it, double strength.

Zachary: Tallyho.

Zachary jumps off the roof while he's screaming with fear. He swings through the air and comes in for a landing on the side of the other building. He clings there with his hands and feet, faces crushed against the brick. Learning hurts.

A few weeks later, Zachary had some trouble controlling his powers, so he needed someone to help him how to control his powers. Then, he asks Peter Parker to do it until Zachary finds out that Peter is Spider-Man. Zachary made a homemade suit version of the Spider-Man suit after Peter was training him.

Peter was teaching him everything he knew. It was tough at first, but Zachary had some difficulty. But he pulled it off. He learned how to web-swing, web slingshot, web block, and all kinds of skills that Peter taught Zachary. A few months later, the two spider duo are in pursuit of a car chase.

Spider-Man fires his webs at the thugs' backs and pulls them out of the car to web them up while Zachary shoots his webs to grab the car before it crashes into a building. The citizens of Manhattan started cheering for the amazing Spider-Men, and this was just the beginning.
