Part 3.2) Is Christmas Really A Pagan Holiday?
To debunk the theory that Christmas is actually a Pagan holiday, it actually wasn't. The Pagans stole the ideals of Christmas from the Christian faith. Christmas was already idealised by aincent solstice and Babylonian traditions.
The Pagans symbolic link to Christmas is their traditional decoration of the home. Also December 21, the Pagans believe the return of the light with Winter Solstice.
So the Pagans cut a tree and decorated them with the traditional Christmas tree decoration we see today. But in those days, there was no invention of electricity. This came later, but they lit their trees with candles. (Not pagan. Christian believers did this too.)
So in other ideals, it's true then, Christmas is not actually Pagan. The Pagans stole some Christian traditions.
But 2 Winter holidays that were the root of the modern Christmas today we're known as The Germanic Yule holiday, and the Roman Saturnalia holiday.
Even though these were pagan, Christian mercenaries bought the two of these holidays together, gave them a makeover, and became known to us as the modern Christmas today.
What do we mean by the two Winter holidays that became Christmas? Let me explain.
Germanic Yule: starts 21 December- ends 1st January, Yule or Yuletide ("Yule time" or "Yule season") is a festival historically observed by the Germanic peoples. Scholars have connected the original celebrations of Yule to the Wild Hunt, the god Odin, and the pagan Anglo-Saxon Mōdraniht.
Roman Saturnalia: 17th-23rd December, observed by the Romans. Saturnalia was an ancient Roman festival in honour of the god Saturn, held on 17 December of the Julian calendar and later expanded with festivities through to 23 December. ... It held theological importance for some Romans, who saw it as a restoration of the ancient Golden Age, when the world was ruled by Saturn.
So we can now rule out any theories about Christmas being a Pagan holiday. So Christmas is a mix of Christian and Pagan celebration.
Next chapter of part 3 is to debunk biblical principles of Christmas.
