This is the busiest room of the house, and depending on the room's size, there is a lot of decorating involved. And you can't do it all on your own. So this is where you get the kids involved with helping. Start decorating round the first week in December so you don't fall behind and decorate for Christmas too late.

Let's begin with the ceiling foil garlands and baubles on the ceiling... Red and gold work best here. Here is the foil garlands the go up and you need 4 of them and put them up in a diagonal line. Look at the picture below, these garlands can come in many different colours like the ones you see below.

This is optional, but to take care of the empty ceiling spaces, coloured tree baubles can make all the difference to really help make the ceiling Christmas-worthy.

Now that's a great way to start the decoration in the sitting room in style.

Now we tackle the garland and stockings on the fireplace. Fir garlands can really add a traditional feel to your fireplace. Look to the picture below to see what I mean.

This fir garland over the fireplace you see here has a LED light string through it. This will be an amazing addition to any fir garlands you own. Also, to finish off the fireplace, it is traditionally common to put on your fireplace, the Christmas stockings.

On your window pane, use either tinsel or fir foliage, and then to make it even more impressive and traditional, use a candle arch. The candle arch is a tradition. But we don't exactly know where the tradition came from.

According to a website called Erzgebirge Palace, the origin of the candle arch is:

The origin of this custom is, as so many things in the region, the mining history oft he Ore Mountains. The miners had to spend the winter months pretty much completely in the dark. ... The desire to light is expressed in many Ore mountains inventions such as Christmas pyramids, advent candle holder or the candle arches

Another window decoration idea is if you're a devout Christian, have the candle arch on the left, so, on the right, add a ornamental Nativity scene, a light up Nativity scene. This scene will be explained in a further chapter.

Next, think about the table tops and place a Christmas village ornaments. Like the Disney one below. Try investing in a light up Christmas village ornaments, as it will make it so beautiful.

On another countertop, place a battery operated storytelling Santa Claus. You can get these almost anywhere. Avon had these in their catalog one year. And it tells your whole family a story.

You need to leave a huge space. This is for the main living area centrepiece, the tree itself. How to decorate the tree is the next part of chapter 2...

To really sparkle up the mirror, use a garland of coloured tinsel to brighten up the mirror's edging. Look to the picture below.

How beautiful it is... So christmassy so festive! But how festive would it be, if you have icicle fairy lights on your living room windows? And this picture below shows the lights on the living room windows.

And how nice does that look? The lights in the picture are shaped like snowflakes. So appropriate for the festive season.

For to store and display all your Christmas cards, I recommend that a card holder is a must to brighten up a wall to really get festive.

As you used 2 of the walls of your living room, I recommend a triple canvas print set with the words, "Peace, Joy and Love" one canvas with each word. Put them up in a diagonal setting.

For the other wall, a Santa Claus and reindeer canvas print. This will work well for the festive season feel.

Then if there's space left on the same wall, place a beautiful Christmas canvas print which lights up next to the Santa Claus canvas.

How beautiful does the living room look? It'll be more beautiful when you get the tree up and lit up.

For the final touches for the coffee table, a bauble garland in the middle works well.
