The Ultimate First Love

Scripture:
1 John 4:19 "We love because He first loved us."

Reflection:
Have you ever felt like you've been searching for love in all people in this world? Love from your family, friends, or someone you considered special. But instead, the love of this world can't satisfy this love you're looking for. The world's love is selfish and conditional.

However, Jesus is our ultimate first love. His love is unconditional, pure, selfless, patient, and kind. His love lasts forever. No man can love like Jesus. No one can fathom such love for someone unworthy; sometimes this love He offers is unrecognized and unappreciated. Some don't believe, and others still haven't known about His love.

Application:
As a single since birth, I've been a hopeless romantic because of what I read in books, what I saw in televisions, and the music I listen to. All my friends are into relationships while I stay single, a girl fond of studying. Despite never being in a relationship, my friends consider me as their love adviser, and they run to me every time they are sad or heartbroken because of their love life. My helpful advice comforts them, but it gives me an impression that men of this world love selfishly.

Reflecting on Jesus' love for us raises the bar of how we should love and be loved. His love should be a template on what true love is. His love assures us worthy of love, our insecurities are acceptable, and He forgives us with our imperfection and disobedience.

Prayer:
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your unwavering love for us. The love we seek in this world could not fathom the love You offer to us. May Your love be known to everyone so it'll be a template for how we should love and be loved by others. May we all remember that we love because You first loved us. You are our ultimate first love. Amen!

Prompt:
Jesus' love is not based on our worthiness but on His character. How does this statement resonate with you, and how can you apply it in your life?
