Jamie - Acne

"Ouch," I say while the dermatologist examines my face.

"It's getting better, Jamie."

I roll my eyes. "Yes, but it's still there."

Doctor Beth sighs and retires her hands from my face. She stares at me the way my mom does when she's about to lecture me.

"Jamie, your parents had it worst, you have nothing compared to them. Look, I'll count to see how many pimples you have."

I hide my face with my hands. "No, don't do that! It'll make me feel worse."

"Then stop complaining, I bet next year you will have nothing." This time I'm the one who sighs. I hate acne, I hate it.

I nod and low my gaze to my lap. It feels like the millionth time I'm here, being examined by my dermatologist. But it's just the number seven. Mom and dad couldn't afford taking me to the doctor. At least now dad has a better job.

They both went to the same place, which was Doctor Beth's consultory. She closed it after some time, but mom decided to take me to Mrs Beth's home. It's better here though, no one sees me and I don't have to sit in a waiting room.

Plus, Doctor Beth doesn't let my parents pay the consult. She loves them too much for that.

Mom and dad are talking with Mr Gabriel, Beth's husband. I walk to them, practically begging to get out of here. This house is too depressing for me. It says acne everywhere. Dad reads my face and says goodbye to our hosts, mom does the same and I just smile and wave. We enter the car silently. I lay my head in the crystal of the window, closing my eyes.

"So, what did Doctor Beth say?" Mom asks carefully.

I take a deep breath trying to remain calm, not wanting to cry, like last time. "She said it's getting better and that she bets next year I'll be clean."

"Well, that's good," says dad kindly.

I nod my head twice.

I wish I was like the other girls.

I hope you don't mind the short chapters. But the thing is that this is a short story, so I'll try to post as much chapters a day as I can.
