Natalie's POV

I examined myself in the body length mirror and gave a 'hmph' of approval.

I was wearing a backless red shift dress with tall gold heels and adorned myself with a gold bracelet and rose gold necklace.

I took gold digger to a whole new level. I snickered.

I did another quick overview of myself and I knew I was going to blow everyone away at the gala tonight including Angel. My hair was cascading down my back and I had on simple makeup.

I watched as my mouth quirked into a smirk.

Now before you throw your book across the room in frustration (I know I'm breaking the fourth wall but to the damn with the fourth wall) I am not full of myself and I am not perfect.

I actually have a few imperfections and I breakout on occasion(I am a normal human after all) I have a slightly crooked front teeth but I don't care about all that.

I actually prefer to see all the good stuff about my appearance and accept the way I look with a grin on my face.

So bam. I was just appreciating myself.

Back to the story.

I walked out of my room and into the living room.

As I walked I thought (not a long walk though).

Me and Angel were actually getting along really well and now I could officially call him my friend with none of the trust.

I was ok with that. I had my own fair share of secrets that I didn't want to get out. Hopefully Ruby would keep her mouth shut and not spill any at the gala tonight.

I could anticipate what my sister would be thinking and I know she'll show up at the gala flaunting and trying to ruin everything.

In retrospect I knew I should have paid her the amount she wanted just to keep her mouth shut and contented but I was just tired of her and dealing with her messes just like I had to do with dad.

I snapped out of my thoughts.

Suddenly I felt a sense of foreboding.

My feeling was confirmed when I saw a blood red envelope on my coffee table.

I let out a nervous breath and picked it up.

Natalie was written on the front in bold cursive.

I trembled as I recognized the handwriting.

I opened the envelope carefully and took out what I new was a letter.

My dear Natalie,
I can't believe you've forgotten about me this quickly I am in my right to be offended but I'll let you of the hook ,THIS TIME.

I shuddered at the 'this time'.

Now, I do not want you to run away from the responsibilities your father had left for you when he died. You have got to pickup his dirty laundry, my precious, since that was what you were meant for. Till next time dearie (I think you should also carry a gun around with you just to be safe). I wonder what you look like, hopefully not ugly.

Your's Mercury.

I let out a deep breath I had been holding. This was not the first time I gotten this letter and cursed out dad.

I looked down at my floor and muttered "I hope your laughing your ass of down there bastard."

Sometimes I hated the messes dad left me to clean up.

Especially this 'Mercury' debacle.

Sometimes I wonder how cheap I was to my dad that he bet ME in a card game with one of the top gang leaders in the country.

'What's done is done' I though and went over to a safe I'd hidden behind a painting.

I pushed aside the painting and I put in my combination and grabbed my black gun.

I put it in my purse which had a special compartment for it so that the bulkiness and the gun wouldn't show.

Even if I had guards, I knew to be safe and keep one on me since the fucker had broken into my apartment.

I had to make sure I was safe that was my top priority.

I slammed my apartment door shut as I walked out.

My format on Wattpad is weird. This popped up as soon as I started writing.
