Chapter 7_ Oh no, it's mine!
The morning was hectic as usual. Leslie and Leslie were competing that who could stuff the larger amount of saggy cereal into their mouths. Suddenly, Lesley choked and I had to hit her on her back for her to spit it out.
"I win!" Leslie grinned, spitting the cereal.
"You made me choke on purpose," said Lesley, "you tickled me."
"I don't remember tickling you," said Leslie. I glared at him and he gave me a thumbs up.
I dragged his chair away from the table and picked him up and stood him on the floor. I thrust his backpack at him and pushed him towards the door.
"Get lost", I said. He gave me a wicked grin, which I'm sure meant trouble for me later on. But it won't be anything I couldn't handle. He hopped out of the kitchen, and Lesley followed.
Simon, Lily and Margaret had already left. Now I only had to take care of Ian. He was snoring away, head on the table, beside his bowl of cereal. He could sleep even if bombs were going off, just like me. It kinda runs in the family.
"Ian!" I yelled in his ear. He merely grunted and kept snoring. I did what he does when he wants me to wake up. I licked my pinky and inserted it into his ear with a twist.
"Arghhh!" He woke up with a start. "What are you doing?"
"What you do when I'm asleep," I smirked.
He shook his head at me, rubbed his ear, picked up his backpack and left the kitchen after giving me an angry scowl.
I heaved a sigh of relief. At last. Everyone had left. I dumped the remaining saggy cereal into the bin and rinsed the bowls before putting them at their proper places. I also wiped the table and picked up my backpack, ready to leave.
I had to walk all the way to the school. Lily and Margaret went with Simon. And the three younger kids went to a school just across the road. I quickened my pace as soon as I glanced at my watch. I had only fifteen minutes to reach my class. It sucked that my first lecture was History with Miss David, and I had no chance of getting out of detention if I got late.
The bell went off as soon as I entered the school gates. Luckily, I had all my necessary books with me in my backpack. I ran towards my classroom and reached in time. I sat on my uncomfortable wooden chain and took out my homework assignment as soon as Miss David walked in.
"Hi, kids," she beamed at the class.
"Hi, Miss David," the class answered.
She glanced at the students and her eyes landed on me. If looks could kill, I would have dropped dead to the ground. It was not like I wasn't expecting to be treated like crap after the incident in Mr. Collins office.
"Assignments on your desks, class," she said.
A few students groaned and the rest of the class placed their homework assignments on their desks.
"Mandy! Collect everyone's homework and bring it to my desk."
I was about to blurt out that my name is Mary, but stopped just in time. She was just trying to provoke me into saying something that could get me into trouble. I got up, making a lot of noise by pushing back my chair with my feet.
"Did your parents teach you any manners?" she yelled, "Oh, I forgot, you don't have any parents." Surprisingly, nobody from the class snickered.
I bit back a response and stomped angrily to the first row. I collected all the assignments and placed them on Miss David's desk. Thank goodness no one tried to trip me and I reached back my seat safely, without causing any commotion.
"Open your books to page number thirty two and start reading quietly, while I check your assignments," ordered Miss David.
I pulled out my history text book from my bag, opened it to page number thirty two and started reading. After some time, I got really bored and started scribbling on my desk.
"Oops!" I heard someone exclaim. I looked up to see Miss David with her hand on her mouth, staring at her desk. I craned my neck and saw that blue ink had spilled on an assignment. Lucky student. Now Miss David would give the student a good grade for accidently spoiling the assignment. Like she did when she lost someone's work sheet.
I glanced at the paper to see the name and could make out only first two alphabets M and a, all the others were covered in ink. Now whose name started from Ma, in this class. There's Madeline, and Martin, and... oh no! It's mine. I had written my name on the top right corner. I cursed under my breath.
"I'm sorry, Mary. I accidentally spilled ink on your homework," said Miss David, smiling. I looked at her with anger.
'If you want to make it look like an accident, at least stop smiling,' I thought.
"I want to see your homework tomorrow," she said with a triumphant look on her face. I know when I'm defeated.
1 Miss David, nil Mary. Now I just had to even the score.
And luckily, I had the perfect plan.
~~~
I was washing the dishes and Leslie and Lesley were sitting on the couch, just outside the kitchen door. They were whispering excitedly to each other, but I was too preoccupied with my own thoughts that I paid little attention to them.
It was when I heard my name from Lesley's mouth, that I pricked my ears for the sound of their conversation.
"... Mary, that you have it."
"You won't tell her or else she'll take it away and then you won't be able to play after I have finished," replied Leslie.
"Let me have a turn or I'm going to go tell her," said Lesley angrily.
"Shhh! She's gonna hear you," whispered Leslie.
"I'm the one who took it from her room, and you are not letting me play," said Lesley.
"Okay, take it. Which game are you going to download?" asked Leslie.
"FNAF 4," replied Lesley.
"Puh-lease! That game stinks," said Leslie.
What were they taking about? I peeked out of the kitchen to see Lesley holding my new phone, waiting for her stupid game to download.
"What are you doing?" I shouted at them and grabbed my phone out of her hands.
I glared at them and Lesley pouted, "he got to play his game. I want to play mine."
"No! What other games have you downloaded?" I asked angrily.
"Only Subway Surfers," said Leslie.
"He did it," Lesley pointed at Leslie.
"She told me to," said Leslie.
"Liar," retorted Lesley, "he's lying," she turned to me.
"Shut up! Both of you. Don't you know what privacy means?" I yelled.
"You need privacy? It's not like you have any social life, or friends, or a boyfriend. Or do you?" smirked Leslie evilly. "Who should I tell first? Mom? Simon? Lily?"
"I have a social life," I said, thinking of Hilda. "And I don't have a boyfriend. And don't you dare touch my phone again," I hissed.
"There's this function for privacy, called a password. Doofus!" said Lesley and walked away before I could respond.
I pocketed my phone and went back to the kitchen to finish washing the dishes.
I was sitting comfortably on my bed and minding my own business when I got another text.
I opened it eagerly, and my eagerness vanished when I saw that Hilda had sent it. It must be important if she sent it directly, instead of asking her wannabe friend, Lisa to do it. I cursed under my breath when I read it:
'Hey, Mary. I, your master, wants to see you now.'_ H
I replied at once:
'Thanks, but I'm comfortable here.'_ M
I have enough amount of self respect, to make her text me a few more times before I agree. It's not like I'm really her slave and she expects me to do everything as soon as she has the words out of her mouth. Or in this case, her phone.
Here's the strange part, she didn't text me again and neither did Lisa. Was she expecting me to come anyway, or was she expecting me to text her back. Well, it was her headache she should deal with it herself. I pushed all thoughts of stupid people from my head and fell asleep.
Little did I know, it was soon going to be my headache.
Author's note:
Picture of Miss David attached.
I'm so sorry I didn't update earlier. Well, I blame my wifi. I had pure intentions of updating 3 days ago, but I can't always get what I need.
I'm so thankful that you stick with me even if I suck at updating. Now I'm going to go hard on myself, because I love you all and I promise I'll update this Friday. Insha Allah.
Hope for the best and get ready for a cat fight. Who do think it will be between? Tell me in the comments.
Bye for now, and don't forget to vote, comment and follow.
