Chapter 14_ Jerks!

Someone poured cold water on my face. It also went into my slightly open mouth. I began to choke on it.

I was lying on the floor but I didn't get up. And neither did I open my eyes. I was so scared that I didn't want to face the reality, even if I choked on the water and died.

The kidnapper shook me to stop my choking. Obviously, it didn't work. He bent on me and tilted my face to get the water out. He then started giving me mouth to mouth. I opened my eyes, only slightly.

The sight sent a wave of emotions through me. I quickly pushed him off, and sat up, spitting out the remaining water and breathing normally.

"Oh, it worked," Harvey smirked.

I spat to the side and wiped my mouth with my hand.

"What happened?" I asked, confused.

"You were screaming in your sleep," he said.

I looked at him, still confused. And then I remembered what had happened to me. I was kidnapped and tortured.

"You had a nightmare," he said.

I recalled the events of the nightmare. After the man left, I dreamt that the man had kidnapped my parents too. And they were calling me.

"Mom, dad. They weren't there," I whispered to myself.

Then I broke down, crying.

Harvey looked at me, his smirk wiped off from his face. He came close to me, and hugged me. I put my head on his shoulder and kept crying. His shirt soaked in my salty tears, and my running nose mixed with them.

He just sat there with his arms around me, saying absolutely nothing, patting my back. When I got enough sense to see that I was crying into my enemy's shoulder I pushed him back.

He handed me a tissue and I wiped my face clean.

After a few minutes, I asked, "what happened?"

"You were screaming and crying in your sleep. You were also mumbling something," he said.

"How did you save me?" I asked.

"You woke up when I poured water on your face," he said.

"No, I mean from that heinous man," I said.

"What man?" he asked, confused.

"The one who cut my hair. Who threatened me," I said.

"Oh! He must have been a part of your nightmare. I kidnapped you from the school, and brought you here. You just woke up," he said.

"What?" I shrieked. Lucas had run away when I was being kidnapped. He was in on this plan. He'll have to face my wrath later. Or maybe he had run away from fear. Then he'll have to face double the wrath. It was just Harvey.

"Relax. Let me explain," he said smirking, "you fainted when I covered your face with a cloth dipped in chloroform. I put you on the back seat of my car and brought you here. After some time you stared twisting and turning in your sleep. So, any questions?"

"We? Who we?" I asked.

"My cousin, Jamie," he said, "he's gone to the grocery store to get us some food."

"Why did you kidnap me?" I clutched his hair in my fist and yanked them.

"I wanted to take you somewhere," he said, screwing his eyes as if he were in pain. Which he clearly wasn't.

"You could have asked me. Like normal people do," I yanked his hair again.

"Firstly, you would have said no. And secondly, I've always wanted to kidnap someone," he chuckled.

My cheeks got red with embarrassment as I remembered that I had cried in front if him for no apparent reason. A wave of anger travelled through me, and I slapped his cheek as hard as I could.

He pressed his hand to his cheek, his expression changed to a serious one.

Then suddenly, he smirked and pointed to his right cheek, "why keep this one devoid of the honour of being slapped by you."

Instead of feeling guilty or shy, I mustered up my strength and slapped his right cheek, with all my might. He gasped in pain.

"Woah! What's happening over here?" I heard a familiar voice come from behind.

I turned around and saw the guy from Skylar's party, standing in the doorway, with a grocery bag in his hands.

"You! I should have guessed you both were related somehow," I said angrily.

"Do you say that because of our obvious good looks," said Jamie, posing.

"You both are jerks!" I yelled.

"Chillax! A little humour won't hurt you," said Jamie.

"And a little revenge won't hurt you either," I said.

"Did I see you slapping my cousin?" he winked. With his gorgeous blue eyes.

"Yes you did! And don't you dare to wink again, if you want your eyes safe in their sockets," I growled.

"You were right. She's a feisty one," he said to Harvey.

I suppressed my anger and ignored him. I got up from the floor, dusting my clothes. I was walking towards the door, when I heard Harvey call me.

"Where are you going?" he asked.

"Home!" I replied curtly, and opened the door.

"You can't," he said, "we're far from your house. Very far."

"I'll get a ride from someone," I said.

"Here, take my hat. People might give you some money," Jamie smirked. "Have you looked at yourself in the mirror?"

I stomped out and slammed the door behind me.

"No," Harvey followed me, "you can't leave. I haven't taken you where I wanted to."

Jamie followed us out too.

"After all that has happened, you still believe she'd go out with you," said Jamie.

"Who freaking said I was asking her out? And it was your idea! So for now, just keep your mouth shut," said Harvey.

"Are you going to take me home? Or should I start walking?" I asked.

"Whatever you say. But it was his idea," Harvey pointed at Jamie, "you shouldn't be angry at me. I did whatever he said. I won't listen to him ever again."

"No, it wasn't. You ..." started Jamie.

"Cut it out!" I barked, "in the car! Now!"

They looked at each other and feigned scared. Harvey unlocked the car and sat at the driving seat. Jamie opened the backdoor for me, but I circled around and opened the opposite door myself, and slid into the car. He shrugged before sliding beside me.

"Get away from me, you jerk. I don't want jerk germs on me," I said.

"Real mature, Mary," laughed Jamie, but didn't budge.

I decided to keep my mouth shut during the ride home.

Harvey started the car and exclaimed, "oh I forgot my wallet. I'll be right back."

"Leave it! What do you have to do with your wallet?" I asked.

He ignored me and turned off the engine before going into the house again.

I huffed and rolled my eyes. I am so going to the cops when I get home, I told myself.

"You know. Harvey didn't mean it to turn out like this," said Jamie, "he wanted to take you somewhere and didn't know how to ask you. He was afraid you'd say no. So he kidnapped you."

"Yeah? Like that makes everything so much better," I said.

"But he didn't want to make you angry," said Jamie.

"Where did he want to take me so bad?" I asked out of curiosity. I really never cared if it killed the cat.

"If only I knew," said Jamie.

"So its just a big lie. Just tell Harvey that I never want to see his face again," I said.

"Even though it's not a lie, but nonetheless, I'll get him an appointment with my dad. He's a plastic surgeon. And Harvey's face could really do with a few twitches here and there," smirked Jamie, "now don't tell him I told you that, or he'll say no. I'll tell my dad to operate on him without his knowing."

I was shocked beyond imagination, but didn't let it show. It might be another trick. I looked at Jamie, but he showed no traces of joking. I just hoped he'd forget about it. I didn't really mean it. I wanted to see Harvey's face, but I was just so angry at him at that time.

I kept glowering at Jamie and saw the sides of his lips twitching. Phew! I'm glad I didn't blurt out a huge no when he tried to trick me into it.

I heard the front door slam, and both of us turned to see Harvey stuttering to the car, when suddenly, he fell, face first to the ground. Before Jamie could think of helping him up (because I for one, obviously wasn't going to), he got up with an embarrassed smile on his face.

Jamie and I burst out laughing. Our gazes met and I had a sudden urge to hold his face still, and keep gazing into the blue depth of his eyes.

I turned away, ashamed at the thought. After all, he had helped Harvey in kidnapping me.

Harvey turned on the car and we went on our way. "You will reach your destination in an hour or so," he announced.

I ground my teeth in disgust and didn't answer.

'Look on the bright side, you wouldn't have met Jamie if you hadn't been kidnapped,' I told myself.

'Oh, what are you thinking, Mary. That's stupid. Jamie's just another jerk. It's just the hormones talking,' I told myself.

'Yeah!' I agreed with myself.

Well, now I have something to hold over Harvey's head. He had kidnapped me. And I could easily use it to my advantage, if I ever needed to. I closed my eyes and relaxed against the seat. This day just got a whole lot better.

I had spoken too soon. The car made some strange noises, rattling and puffing and steaming. And then, it jerked to a stop.

"What happened?" I asked, feeling queasy.

"Don't know. I'll check," said Harvey, and Jamie followed.

"It's heated up," said Jamie, "now we'll have to walk."

"Can't we get help? Or maybe a lift?" I asked, hopefully. I hate walking long distances.

"I'll lift you anytime, baby," said Jamie.

"No such luck. It's such a deserted place only animals come here," said Harvey, ignoring Jamie's remark.

"At least you are right that only animals come here," I scowled as I got out and slammed the car door behind me.

Today is really not my lucky day.
