Chapter 10_ Let's party!

I decided to wear my newest dress. It was pretty but not very fancy. Perfect for the party where I was invited as a helper, not a guest.

It was a black, light blue and white, sleeveless dress which reached below my knees. I wore black tights underneath. I don't like exposed legs.

I sneaked into Lily's room to put on some makeup. Even if Margaret does notice that I put some effort in getting ready for the party, she won't say anything, she's different from Lily in that sense.

I went downstairs when Margaret texted me. I slid into Simon's car, which was sometimes used by Margaret and Lily, even though both of them had no licence. Aunt had a car of her own, and the others were too young to drive.

The drive to Skylar's house was a short one. I entered her house and saw what you see at most teenage parties. Luckily, Skylar's party was adult supervised. There wasn't any adult in the house but there were cameras recording everything, and thus no alcohol could be sneaked in.

I decided to be on my best behaviour so that Mr. McDonald thinks I've turned into an angel, if he sees the video footage. It's not like he would have forgotten me. I used to come to a lot of parties here, and fought with his precious McDonald junior. Yeah, Harvey's surname is McDonald, and his dad called him McDonald junior till middle school, but no one made fun of him. Except me.

Skylar told me all I had to do. It wasn't much. Just to keep the table topped with drinks and snacks at all times. She showed me where the little store was, in the pantry.

The party had not been going on for long, so there was no lack of edibles on the table. I could enjoy myself till the party got in full swing. I decided to find Harvey and thank him for dumping his chocolate milk on Hilda's head.

I searched for him everywhere downstairs, but he was nowhere to be seen. I didn't want to ask anyone about him and risk being made fun of. Again. Maybe he wasn't even home. Or maybe he was in his room upstairs. But upstairs was off limits.

I got bored and sat down on a couch. After sometime, a guy came and sat with me. I wouldn't say I didn't think his eyes were out of this world, in addition to being gorgeous. But I knew better than to let his gorgeousness lighten my mood.

"Hey," he said.

"Hi," I replied, bored.

"You don't look you are enjoying the party," he stated the obvious.

"That's because I'm not," I replied.

"Why not?" he asked.

"You are not from our school. What are you doing here?" I ignored his question and asked rudely.

He shrugged.

"So, you are a party crasher?" I asked.

"Something like that. So, are you here with a guy?" he asked, his deep blue eyes, bright with energy.

"What's your problem?" I glared at him. Whenever I'm in a bad mood and see someone else having fun, I get into an even worse mood.

"I just wanna dance," he said shrugging.

"I don't want to," I replied. I hate jerks like him who only come to parties to dance with random girls. I hate boys and I hate dancing. Don't judge, I have a load of facts to support my opinions.

I stomped to the table to load it with food again. I was just setting some sodas, when I saw Harvey come towards me.

"Hi," he said.

"Why did you wink at me after school today?" I spat at him angrily.

I wanted to play cool, and ended up playing angry. I wasn't really playing, I had gotten annoyed with that guy. I had also realised that it was stupid of me if I started to believe that Harvey was on my side.

A while before, I was more than glad to think that I might have the popular guy palling up with me, and my life shall never be miserable again. But I should know better. That only happened in cliché high school books and movies.

"Why so angry?" he asked.

"Why such a jerk?" I countered,

"I was just trying to cheer you up. I've heard my winks and kisses work wonders," he replied smugly.

"Since when have you cared about my moods? But you did cheer me up when you poured your chocolate milk on Hilda's head," my scowl switched into a smile at the end of the sentence.

"My pleasure," smirked Harvey.

"You mind telling me what your fight was about?" I asked, feigning innocence.

I can't wait to use their fight in my advantage.

Sorrow flickered in his eyes before he smiled and said, "no I can't tell you that."

"Can you do that again?" I asked hopefully.

He laughed and shrugged, "if she asks for it."

"What are you standing here for?" I asked, suddenly.

"Rude much!" he said.

"I don't like you. Let me remind you, we are enemies," I said.

"That's harsh," he replied, placing his hand on his heart, feigning hurt.

It's kinda nice to talk to Harvey when he's not being a jerk.

"Well, that's the truth," I shrugged.

"You are my enemy, I'm not yours," he said.

"Shut up! You were mine first. I had nothing to do with you and you tried every possible way to make my life hell. I HATE you," I screamed.

"That was before. I have changed," he tried to placate me.

"After all those years of being bullied by you, how can I suddenly accept the fact that you have changed," my mood suddenly changed.

"I'll prove it to you. I'll pour chocolate milk over Hilda's head again. And Lisa's and Lucas' too."

"I'm not that vulnerable. This is some kind of a new trick. You are faking enmity with them. And you didn't even get back at me after I got you punished. It's not like you to let me go. Is that part of the plan too?"

"Well, I had full intention of striking when you were least expecting it, but I told you, I had a change of heart, for good. And I'm not faking enmity. Why would I do that?"

"Why did you do all those things you did to me? Was there any reason for that?"

"Fun, I suppose," he shrugged.

"This will be fun for you too. Being friends with me and then leaving me at the time of need, breaking my heart. After hurting me physically, you didn't get to hurt me enough. Now it's time for emotional hurt. Isn't it? But you are wrong. I shall never fall for such a despicable and shallow trick. If you want to trick me, you will have to do better than that," I said, boiling with rage.

With that, I turned to go and saw that Margaret was looking at us intently, and Skylar was standing with her mouth slightly agape.

I glared at them before stomping off, in the opposite direction. Luckily, the other guests were still oblivious to our fight. The music was louder than our voices. My voice, to be precise.

So much for being in Mr. McDonald's good books. I left the house and sat outside. I couldn't leave as the party would be going on for a few more hours. I felt at peace, as I chanted the mantra my uncle had taught me. It was our own little secret. I don't know why he didn't teach such an effective mantra to his own kids. It worked if I was unhappy, sick, miserable, scared or if I was in a sticky situation or something.

After about an hour, I peeped inside to see if the food table needed restocking. It did. I was about to enter the house when I saw Harvey coming downstairs. I decided to wait until the coast was clear. He went onto the kitchen. I saw him come out after a minute. He was carrying a lot of snacks. Probably taking them to his room.

But instead of going upstairs, he went straight to the table. He dumped the snacks on the table and went to the kitchen again. He came out with more snacks and dumped them on the table too. He brought more drinks and set the table.

I kept looking through the window as he did what he knew was my job. Oh, he was probably hoping that someone tells me that he had done my job at the party. But I shall never fall for his tricks. He knew me well enough to just stop.

'I'll make him pay for trying to trick me. I'll have my ultimate revenge and then I'll see if he keeps up his act,' I thought.

One good thing came from our fight. Harvey took care of the food table and I relaxed, for the rest of the party.

After the party was over, people started to leave, in groups. Margaret was still inside. She was the best friend, of course she had to stay till the very end. And she also had to wait for me to finish cleaning up.

Suddenly my phone buzzed, Margaret had texted me.

'Come in.' _Marg

Reluctantly, I got up and went inside. Skylar and Margaret were sitting on the sofa, and Harvey was leaning against the wall.

"Clean up and we'll leave," said Margaret.

I started picking up plastic cups and plates from everywhere. Harvey brought a large trash bag and held it out for me to put in the trash. We worked together without uttering a single word. He even wiped off the spilled drinks from the floor. I let him do my chores. It's the least I could make him do for me, after all he had done to me.

After about fifteen minutes, we were done. I left the kitchen without a word and Harvey followed.

"I'm done, let's go," I said to Margaret.

She and Skylar got up and hugged and blew air kisses and hugged again.

"Let's go!" Margaret said.

"Mary, this isn't a trick," said Harvey from behind me.

I ignored him and kept walking with Margaret. We got into the car and Margaret took us home.

I stumbled up the stairs and was about to enter my room when Margaret said, "Harvey is really not tricking you this time."

I entered my room and slammed the door. Trust Harvey to ask Margaret to side with him. Like I'm going to believe her. She was also one of my enemies. I'm still going along with the decision of my ultimate revenge plan.

Mwahahaha! Harvey, you are going to wish you were never born.

Author's note:

Victory! I did it!

At last. I finished the chapter. I had to delete some part of this chapter because I wasn't happy with it, and write this one instead. What do you think of this chapter?

Picture of Mary in her party dress is attached.

I'm so sorry I didn't update on Friday. And so, I'm going to update maybe day after tomorrow again. Yay! Three chapters in a week, I'm on a roll.

It was my brother's birthday on 20th, Friday. I made a cake and a piñata. If you want to see the pictures of these things then you can see them in my book, "Murder at Lake villa". It's a murder mystery which I haven't started writing yet, but it also has random pictures.

Thanks for bearing with me.

Take care, bye!
