Flare

"Geode, sir, who are we waiting for?" The Skywing asks, glittering a vibrant ruby as the sun hit his scales. He sat beside the hybrid, squinting rust eyes at the horizon.

"Allies, who are very important in this war." He said simply, tilting his large head down at Flare.

Flare took this answer as the best he'd get, and continued to stare out at the glowing gold line. The sharp breeze of wings suddenly startled him, and he turned to face two grinning dragons.

One was a Daywing commoner, her scales being a dark azure, with flecks of paler blue like a nearly cloudless sky. She had vibrant green eyes, and her crown of horns was an opalescent white.

Flare nodded at her, and Danger returned the gesture, tugging at the necklace of teeth hanging around her neck. The second was a Magicwing, one he recognized as a good friend of Seaglass's, Silverfeather.

Silverfeather's wings were dusted with luminous silver scales, and her eyes held flecks of the same color. She had black horns, and pale lavender scales that were laced with scars.

"We come to greet the allies." Silverfeather said in a thick accent, Danger lifting her head a little. Flare spread his wing at the ledge that they rested on, and the older dragonesses just shrugging and approaching.

"So." Flare asked Danger. "Do you know them?"

Danger ignored him, though, her eyes glued on the gold sky much like Geode's.

"They're childhood friends of Danger's, the two. From before she joined us." Silverfeather looked at Danger, and how concentrated she was, like staring would make them fly faster. "Practically her closest friends."

"They are." Danger said fiercely, arching her brow over at Silverfeather.

Suddenly, two dark dots appeared on the horizion, gradually growing closer. Danger shouted and threw open her wings, launching herself into the air.

Surprised, Flare looked at Geode and Silverfeather. Geode appeared happy. Danger clearly was like a daughter to him. He wondered if he ever actually had dragonets, and if so, what happened to them.

He glanced back at the now visible dragons, three Daywings gliding wing to wing, Danger was at the left of a darker dragon, delighted. Geode stepped back as they landed, Flare getting a clearer look at who they were.

A Daywing unlike any color he'd ever seen stood in the middle of them. He had warm brown eyes, and an earring with a gold sun. His scales were a mixture of red, pink, yellow, orange and gold. Like a sunrise or a sunset. Dark gold horns surrounded his head like a crown, and as he grinned at Geode there was a flash of a missing tooth.

Surprising Flare even more, the middle Daywing embraced Geode, the two exchanging quick hellos before sitting back. Geode flicked his tail at the second new Daywing.

He was a pale yellow and had white opalescent horns, and a silver choker with a single blue gemstone was around his neck. He was covered in various scars, the mosy visible twisted down the right side of his underbelly. Both couldn't have been more than 17.

Flare stiffened when turquoise eyes glared at him, but he couldn't help but be awed by the allies.

"Never seen one of these before." The pale yellow one said, nudging the middle dragon with his tail. Geode raised his head, a few of the lines of stress under his eyes dissipating.

"Archangel, Daybreak, this is one of my newest recruits, Prince Flare of the Skywings."

"Fellow royalty." Said Daybreak, raising his wings a little. "Great."

Flare stared at him for a second, processing this. "You're a son of Solar, aren't you?"

Daybreak opened his mouth to speak again but Archangel beat him to it. "Unfortunately." Daybreak then glared pointedly at him, amber brown eyes flashing at turquoise ones.

Though his scowl didn't last for long, as Archangel's mouth quirked up in a smile and the Prince gained one of his own. His smile was still apparent as he looked over at Flare. "I'm against my mother, no worries."

"How in the world are you still alive, then?" Flare cried.

He pointed over at Archangel, who shrugged. "His father assigned me to watch over him practically the moment he could walk. I was just two years old at that time. But I never really had to do much until.. Yknow, Sundial mysteriously disappeared. I've had to protect him from her more than once, as you can see by the scars." He explained.

"She just leaves me to do my own thing now." For the first time, Flare heard a hint of anger in his voice. "Obviously she never expected one of her sons to even think of rebelling against her. She's usually too preoccupied with Sol and Whisper. Lucky me, then."

"Daybreak is an excellent strategist." Archangel said proudly. "I'm glad I was able to keep him breathing."

"So." Daybreak said, spreading his wings fully and tilting his head down to the grotto. "We have more talking to do. Who wants to lead the way?"

*****
Flare was strangely honored to be a part of this conversation. Daybreak had brought a map with them, and Daybreak and Geode were quietly discussing ways to get around the biggest of Solar's army. Having Daybreak as an inside man really payed off when it came to knowing plans. They even paused to ask him about what he thought. The Skywing was strangely giddy.

"The Rogue army is going to be split into two halves." Daybreak slid a talon across the map, letting it rest over the castle. "One half will help take the castle, and the other will fend off the rest of Solar's army. The second should be slightly smaller, as it will be teaming up with whatever other tribes we get on our side."

"The biggest set of dragons Solar has is the Lightningwings, correct?" Flare piped up, narrowing his eyes down at the map. Geode nodded, and Flare leant forward. "For the half of our army to fend off the others. The most durable dragons, such as Crystalwings and Cavewings, should be focused on Lightningwings. The Deepwings, with any Daywings on our side as well as the Moltenwings. We need the strongest fire breathers."

"Give them a formidable opponent, nicely done." Daybreak smiled in his direction.

"I hope Shade decides to help." Geode muttered. "Magicwings are probably the strongest, it'd give us a huge advantage to have them on our side. "

"I guess we'll find out soon enough." Archangel said, narrowing his eyes in the direction of the opening of the grotto. Two shapes were winging their way, one a sandy pale, the other a dark obsidian. Potent and Tempest.

Flare got to his talons, flicking his tail and raising a wing in greeting. "How did it go?" He questioned, watching as the two roughly touched down, wobbling a bit on their feet.

"We've got the Moltenwings on our side." Tempest said breathlessly, leaning against Potent for support. They must've flown non-stop since they got the news.

"Fantastic." Daybreak whispered, amber eyes sparkling in excitement.

"Any word from the others?" Geode says, his vast wings spreading across the cave.

"Nothing so far." Potent says, eyes lidded.

Geode set his jaw, nodding and walking up to the two dragonets. He gently ushered them out with his wings. "Alright, you two. Go get some rest, we'll send someone for you if you're needed."

Having no argument to that, they took off into the air. Flare shuffled on his talons, a bit worried. He wondered how Artemis was doing.

"How soon are we starting training?" Daybreak asked, flicking his tail.

"Training already started a bit ago." Flare said. "Just not for this plan."

"Guess we know what he have to do now, huh?"
