Chapter 35

Lunging forwards, the tattoos on Vivian's back shifted slightly and large black wings emerged from her back. Pulling away at the last minute as the creature swiped at her.

"Feathery wings..." Meliodas muttered to himself, just loud enough for Brooks to hear.

Turning her attention back to Vivian, Brooks watched as the girl swooped close towards the monster, landed an earth encrusted punch at one of the heads, and moved back and out of range as the monster moved to attack. just as she was about to attack again, a cold mist left one of the monster's mouths, freezing one of Vivian's wings and causing the girl to fall to the ground.

Brooks lunged forwards and caught her before she hit the ground.

"Man, that could've been bad, thanks commander." Vivian said with a sigh.

Looking up, Brooks saw black flames rising up from the demon. Both Ban and Meliodas head seemed to recover from the shock and both grabbed weapons. Vivian, too, had her gaze set on the fire.

"I haven't see black flames like those in years." She murmured. Shaking her head from the thought, she stepped out of Brook's arms and shook out her wings- the frost falling to the ground and leaving her wings a little damp. "No time for thinking about the past now." Opening her wings wider, she pressed down and flung herself towards the monster as Meliodas was doing the same, a sword covered in black flames in his hand.

It seemed like both of them were about to land a double strike that would of killed the monster together, but just before they did, they both hesitated.

"Hurry up and finish them off, you two!" Ban shouted.

"Vivian, Meliodas, watch out!" Brooks shouted right after, watching as the monster grabbed onto Vivian and Meliodas, taking advantage of their hesitance.

"Damn, I'm coming Vi!" Brooks shouted, her braids raising slightly from a wind starting to whip around her and cause her to hover. Though before she could fling herself towards the creature, a beam of light appeared and struck the monster in the chest.

"A light arrow? This is your chance Ban!" King shouted from above Brooks, and she watched as Bon raised a whip and grabbed both Meliodas and Vivian out of the monsters grasp, pulling the two to a safe distance.

"What's the matter with you two!" Ban scolded, "You could've destroyed it!"

"I just heard him say something." Meliodas explained.

"The Holy Knight... He's still alive in there!" Vivian shouted, sprinting to her feet and staring at the creature with a mixture of determination and seriousness on her face. This was a rare expression for Vivian to have.

"Like that really matters, just kill him already!"

"I'm not killing an innocent being!" Vivian shouted, looking at Ban with her eyes watering.

At that, Brooks knew exactly what got Vivian was feeling at that moment. As Gowther walked up to the three in front of Brooks, she thought back to when she first met Vivian.

"What are you doing here in this forest alone?" A younger looking Brooks asked.

"I could say the same for you." A younger Vivian retorted. The tips of her hair were blonde, and it seemed as if it originally used to be that color. Though something about the girl was off, Brooks could sense it. Thinking about it, she wasn't at all like the excitable Vivian Brooks knew now, she was more serious, angelic

"I'm looking for powerful people for my group." Brooks responded, a smile gracing her features.

"Group? Well, I won't be of any use. I'm not really that loyal. And I don't really think I'd be accepted."

"Hmmm... you have some baggage with you, don't you?" Brooks asked, looking down at Vivian.

"Baggage? I don't know what you mean, I'm not carrying anything with me."

Brooks laughed, "That's not what I meant. Something's bothering you. Isn't it?" Her voice was soft, comforting.

Vivian looked up at Brooks for a second, and hesitated before responding. "What would you think if I told you I killed many innocent people?"

A sudden shout broke Brooks out of her thoughts, and she looked up to see Ban pulling out the man's heart.

"What were you thinking?" Vivian screeched, "He was still alive!"

"We could of saved him!" Meliodas added angrily.

"Guys, look!" King exclaimed, and the group looked towards the man, his mouth was moving, he seemed to still be alive.

"I think he's whispering something." King stated.

"Even thought his heart's been gouged out, he's still seeing the illusion that I gave him." Gowther stated.

'An illusion.' Brooks thought to herself, walking forwards to be closer to the group. Once she stopped next to Meliodas, the monster let out a roar.

"What the hell is this?" Ban asked. "I know I ripped his heart out." His face turned to shock before he narrowed his eyes in hatred. "Damn-" he started.

"It's a demon." Vivian stated calmly. She opened her wings and rose up in the air, reaching her hand in front of her and a light glowing as the demon merged it's four heads together to make one giant head with no eyes, four noses, and a giant mouth.

As the Sins under her reminisced and tried to think of ways of how he ended up like that and they tried to remind the human turned demon about who they were, and fending the creature off with attacks of their own, until they started to slightly fight within their own groups.

"Breath of Blessings." Vivian casted, the light in her hand growing larger by the second, until finally it flew towards the demon, and surrounded it. Thought once it died down, the demon was still there, now angrier than ever.

Landing at Brook's side, Vivian looked the the creature with disbelief showing on her face. "That... that always works. This demon... it's not a natural human turned. It was voluntarily."

"Voluntarily?" Brooks asked, looking at her friend in shock.

"This man must of ingested, or somehow fused with part of a demon." Vivian explained. "I just... don't know how they would reach a demon after what happened last time."

"Let's focus on that later." Brooks said, "For now, we have a demon to fight."

"Sir Meliodas!" A voice called, and Brooks looked up at the top of a hill, seeing Elizabeth holding a small dagger in her hands.

"Elizabeth!"

"Take this!" Elizabeth shouted, throwing a dagger in the air towards the Captain. "Sir Meliodas, it's not that Liz wanted you to fight, it's that she wanted you to live! Don't you understand, you're someone who stands up for what he believes in. And if that's you sin, then I'll carry that burden with you!"

How inspirational. Brooks thought to herself as she started up at the teal haired girl with wide eyes.

It flew in the air for a second before the blond jumped up in a millisecond and grabbed onto it. With a swift move, he took it out of the small scabbard and moved down towards the demon, slicing it up causing the creature to crumble and fall to the ground.

"He... killed it." Vivian stated, "That was... amazing!" She had snapped out of her shock and was bounding up to the short blond. "I had no idea you could do that!"

"A human transforming into a demon. Could that be possible?" King asked, suddenly changing the course of the conversation.

"Could be from experimentation, or something like that."

"It is possible." Vivian agreed, looking at the two with wide eyes as Bon walked towards the man.

"No way, you think that they reacted a man-made demon?" King asked.

"Guess so." Meliodas answered.

"I know so." Vivian added in, this time being heard by the two. "My attack didn't do a single thing to it except make it angry. Purifying demons, while a spell I don't use often, is something I'm good at. This demon... is not natural. The thing it... they used a Holy knight to do it."

"But that means someone had to go behind the backs to the two Holy Knight Grandmasters." Kind stated, then he gasped, "Could it be true?"

"Yeah. And it's a good chance that a Holy Knight Grandmaster is directly involved."

Vivian smiled slightly, "Brings a whole new meaning to Hell Knight, doesn't it, Commander." She whispered, trying to lighten up the mood a little.

"Guess you're right Vi."

"Then it's either Draefus, or-"

"Hendrickson." Gowther finished, and Brooks looked towards the boy who was staring at Ban holding up a small creature with a light arrow going through it.

"You figured out something?" Meliodas asked.

"Yes. The person who is likely to be involved in this incident, is Holy Knight Grandmaster Hendrickson."

Squishing the creature in his hand, Ban turned around and started walking towards the group. "I'm getting hungry, let's head back." He stated, changing the topic.

"I'm sure Diane must be worried too." King added.

"Well, yeah. I guess." Ban stated.

"You ready to see some of the others, Vi?" Brooks asked, looking down at her friend.

The black haired girl looked up at Brooks, "You bet I am." She stated, her wings disappearing back into the form of the tattoos on her back. "I could use seeing some familiar faces after this whole ordeal."

Brooks smiled, "Then let's head back."
