Chapter 2
Riley packed up her stuff and headed to Photography. As usual, Farkle came to sit next to her. This time, she smiled at him instead of being mad.
He grinned back, and they messed around with his Polaroid. They took a few pictures, and when class let out, Riley skipped Art and went outside with him. They took pictures of each other.
Riley made crazy poses while Farkle snapped several pictures, then they looked them over after. Farkle took the pictures of Riley home, and Riley took the pictures of Farkle home.
Farkle walked Riley to the diner, where she had her shift, and stayed for the whole two hours. He would talk to her as she swept and washed tables. A few people came in, but other workers dealt with them.
At five sharp, Riley dropped her apron on the counter and followed Farkle out into the night. He offered her his jacket, and she took it without a second thought.
She walked closer to him, to try and keep him warm too. Soon they were at their apartment building. Farkle followed her in, and they studied for a few hours, then they played games.
Riley would chase Farkle around the small apartment, trying to catch him. When she did, Farkle would tickle her until she let go of him.
They went back to studying, stopped for dinner at nine again, and went back to studying. It wasn't as easy this time. Farkle didn't understand some of it, so Riley was getting frustrated. She explained it again, in a different way.
"Here," She said, taking a picture of them together. "If you have these four sides and one of them is four times as long as the others, then what kind of shape is it?"
He still didn't get it. Riley sat back, exasperated.
"Hey," Farkle spoke quietly, he knew she was irritated. "Let's just take a break for a bit."
"Okay." She said, placing a hand on Farkle's thigh. He shivered, and she smiled.
"So tell me about you, Riley." Farkle looked at her encouragingly, and she nodded slowly, as if to recall life before college.
"I'm the same age as you, I came from New York to this God forsaken cold land, where it rains all the time. As you can probably guess, I came to study art and photography. Someday, I want to travel the world, taking pictures and then painting them." She paused, thinking.
"I want to live in an adorable little apartment in the streets of London, drinking a cup of tea every morning. Waking up to the beautiful sunrises and the bustling cities full of people with their amazing accents." Riley giggled a little, and Farkle's face brightened at the cute sound.
"What about you, mystery boy? I've never known much about you until you showed up in this city, where I happened to be, coming to my classes. Sitting in the diner I work at..." She trailed off and looked at the ceiling, trying to stop herself from blushing.
"I-I came from a broken home. My dad wasn't around a lot. His time was invested in one thing and that one thing only. His money. We were rich, I was too young to see all that was going wrong at the time. Him and my mom, they fought quietly. I guess, after I went to bed, all things bad broke loose." His voice cracked a little, and Riley placed a comforting hand on his back.
"One day, he just left. We had to move out of our nice house. We moved into a little dingy apartment, where we were barely scraping by. My mom had to get a job, I was home alone a lot. I was scared, in the town that we lived in. We were in Chicago at the time, a smaller part of the city, the sketchy part." He paused and bit down on his lip.
Riley was hanging on his every word. This was much better than studying, and she hadn't known any of this.
"My mom would cry a lot, and I would ask her why. She would just tell me she was sad, I didn't see it coming. One day, she was gone a lot longer. I went without dinner. I fell asleep crying, but then she came home. I could tell she was drunk. I was older then, and she told me everything I had never understood about my parents' relationship. She was crying hard then, and I just tried to comfort her."
"Then I passed high school with high grades, getting into Ivy League schools because my father promised to pay as long as I could keep up. I had a nice apartment, good friends. Then, I dropped out. It was hard on my mom, trying to keep up with rent fee and all." He took a deep breath, ending.
"I ended up here, just like you, met a good girl who I knew could teach me a lot. I'm glad about that."
"Me too." She hugged him, and he hugged her back. They pulled back, and they both wiped a few tears from their eyes. "Farkle, I know that must have been hard-"
"It's okay. I'm okay. The past was then, I want to focus on the future." He grimaced a little, and she grinned with enthusiasm.
"Alright, let's work on this. What's next?" Riley asked.
The night was long, but they had bonded over each other's pasts. It was almost two, and they drifted off while talking. Riley was asleep on Farkle's lap, his arm holding hers.

Riley woke with a sharp intake of breath. She screamed and rolled off the couch, landing on her face.
"F-Farkle wake up." She said slowly. He was already up from her scream.
"What?" he asked calmly, as if this was no big deal.
"Why are you so calm!" She asked incredulously. "It's seven, we're gonna miss the city bus and our first class!" He nodded slowly, rubbed his eyes, and turned over.
Riley started to hit his shoulder.
"GET. UP. YOU. LAZY-"
"Chill. I'm up." He got off the couch, ran a hand through his hair, and grabbed his stuff, throwing it in his backpack. Then he pulled some keys out. "Well, come on, what are you waiting for?"
Riley ran to get changed quickly, then followed him outside, to where a small car was parked. But, at a second glance, she realized he wasn't headed for that one.
He kept walking, to a Lamborghini. It was iridescent purple, and it had orange lines running across it.
"This," Farkle said, motioning to the car. "Is Lily. Be careful. She's sort of the only car I get from my dad. I would love to not ruin her."
Riley stepped carefully around the car and got in, buckling herself. She loved the warm interior, and it smelled of fresh leather.
"Your dad may not have been around a lot, but he sure got you some sweet stuff." She remarked, turning on the seat heater.
Farkle just smirked and listened as he made the engine purr sweetly. "That's my girl." He said softly, humming along to a song that was playing in the background.
They rode the rest of the way to school, pop music playing. Riley didn't like it that much, but then again, the fact that she was in her friend's Lamborghini made it better.
Okay, I know this was lame, but I had to update.
