• Crowfood or crow-food
A dead prey animal that has begun to rot; can also be used as an insult. (See below)
Examples:
"Don't eat that, it's crowfood!"
• Cutter
A veterinarian, often referred to as one who spays or neuters cats, but this is not always the case.
Examples:
"We'd better escape before we're brought to the cutter."
• Dirt
Feces.
Examples:
"I have to make dirt, I'll be right back."
• Endless lake or sea
The ocean where TideClan lives. There's a kelp forest shortly off-shore and many fish are here. It can be called the endless lake or the sea.
• Fresh-kill
A recently killed prey animal caught for the purpose of consumption. Fresh-kill is hunted by warriors and apprentices, and placed on the fresh-kill pile or brought to the elders. Elders, kits, queens, and sick cats eat first, then warriors and apprentices. Extras stay in the fresh-kill pile.
Examples:
"Squirrel is good fresh-kill for your first day as an apprentice."
• Gathering
The monthly meeting of the Clans when the moon is full at the Great Oak. There is a truce on this night, and no fighting is allowed.
Examples:
"Are you going to the Gathering tonight?"
• Great Oak
A place located between the territories in which there is a hollow surrounded by massive pine trees with a single great oak in the center. The Clans gather in peace every full moon here.
Examples:
"We'll be gathering at the Great Oak tonight."
• Hunting Patrol
A group of cats hunting for fresh-kill to bring back for their Clan to eat. May fight if there are trespassers.
Examples:
"Meet me at sunhigh for a hunting patrol."
• Kittypet
A domesticated pet cat.
Examples:
"A kittypet could fight better than you!"
• Loner
A cat that lives by itself and doesn't defend its territory.
Examples:
"We found a loner basking near the stream."
• Making dirt
Defecating.
Examples:
"I caught him making dirt, it was really embarrassing."
• Monster
A vehicle operated by humans (twolegs). Often described when cats are near twolegs/the Twolegplace.
Examples:
"Watch out, there's a monster coming!"
• Mooncave
The place where medicine cats and leaders share tongues with StarClan.
Examples:
"I'm taking him to the Mooncave tonight."
• Rogue
A usually hostile cat who does not have a permanent home, roams around, and does not care about crossing Clan boundaries.
Examples:
"Be careful, there's a rouge around here."
• Sharing tongues
Cats grooming each other while sharing the latest gossip. A cat lies on the ground, talking, while the other grooms their fur, listening. Often takes place at sunhigh.
• She-cat
A female cat.
Examples:
"That's a pretty she-cat."
• She-kit
A female kit.
Examples:
"I saw two she-kits scuffling near their mother."
• Silver boulder
A boulder that, when the silver disc is pulled off, holds twoleg rubbish. To twolegs, they are just trash cans/bins.
Examples:
"Don't run into the silver boulders, they make quite a racket!"
• Silverpelt
The large swath of stars in the sky (believed to be the Milky Way). These stars are a direct representation of StarClan.
Examples:
"See those stars? That's silverpelt."
• Silverthorn
Barbed wire.
Examples:
"Don't go near the silverthorn, its sharp."
• Smooth boulder-thing
Twoleg ball.
Examples:
"I saw the twoleg kits in their garden again, they threw their smooth boulder-thing over the fence and were trying to get it from a thorn bush from sunhigh to sunset! It was hilarious!"
• Snowmelt
A term used to describe slush or dirty, melted snow.
Examples:
"Be careful! The river's swollen with snowmelt."
• Soft boulder
A pillow or cushion.
Examples:
"The kittypets were lounging on their soft boulders all day."
• Thunderpath
A smooth, paved road with an extremely acrid scent that monsters often go across. They are often seen in Twolegplace.
• Tom / tomcat
A male cat.
Examples:
"I saw a tom from FlightClan chasing birds near the border."
• Tom-kit
A male kit.
Examples:
"She had two tom-kits sleeping at her side."
• Twoleg
A human.
Examples:
"Watch out! I saw twolegs chasing a dog near the Twolegplace!"
• Twoleg kit
A human child.
Examples:
"The twoleg kits are trying to climb trees again."
• Twoleg nest
A human house.
Examples:
"I saw that white kittypet run back into her twoleg nest after we chased her!"
• Twolegplace
A town, city, or village where twolegs live.
Examples:
"Be careful in Twolegplace, it's like a maze."
TIME TERMS
• Newleaf
The season of spring.
Examples:
"I'm glad it's finally Newleaf."
• Greenleaf
The season of summer.
Examples:
"Prey is plentiful this Greenleaf."
• Leaffall
The season of autumn/fall.
Examples:
"Come Leaffall, the kits will be jumping around in the leaves."
• Leafbare
The season of winter.
Examples:
"Leafbare is unforgiving and cold, but at least the sunrises are pretty."
• Moon
The time between one full moon and the next, spanning about 29 days, a month.
Examples:
"I hurt my leg last moon, but it's fine now."
• Moonhigh
When the moon is the highest in the sky; about midnight.
Examples:
"Meet me by the stream at moonhigh."
• Moonrise
The time when the moon rises.
Examples:
"Be careful at moonrise, lots of predators are active."
• Half-moon
About two weeks, half a month.
Examples:
"Are you sure we have to wait until next half-moon?"
• Quarter-moon
About a week.
Examples:
"Next quarter-moon, I'll be a warrior, I'm sure!"
• Sunhigh
The point during the day when the sun is highest in the sky; noon.
Examples:
"The Clan was lounging around come sunhigh."
• Sunrise
The time when the sun is rising. Can also be used as a term for one day. Dawn is still used, however, like in the phrase "Dawn Patrol".
Examples:
"Come on, get up! It's sunrise!"
"One sunrise ago, she caught a fat blackbird."
• Season
A quarter of a year in cat time. Four seasons equal a year.
Examples:
"The season is changing from Leaffall to Leafbare."
• Heartbeat
A split second.
Examples:
"I didn't even have a single heartbeat to rest before they called for another patrol!"
• Claw-moon
When the moon resembles the shape of an unsheathed claw, equivalent to crescent moon.
Examples:
"Some cats say we have a claw-moon because StarClan is battling something."
• Sundown
Dusk.
Examples:
"Sundown is pretty, especially in Leaffall."
DISTANCE TERMS
• Fox-length
About the length of a fox; approximately a yard.
(80 cm)
• Kittenstep or kitstep
About the length of a kit's step; approximately an inch or a half inch. (1.25-2.5 cm)
• Tail-length
About the length of a cat's tail; approximately a foot. (30 cm)
• Rabbit hop or rabbit-length
About a foot and a half away. (45 cm)
• Mouse-length
About two or three inches. (5-7.5 cm)
• Pawstep
About the length of a grown cat's step, roughly six inches. (15 cm)
• Tree-length
About the length of a tree; around 40 to 50 feet.

INSULTS, EXCLAMATIONS & PHRASES
• As easy as swallowing a minnow
A phrase used to indicate easiness of a task.
Examples:
"Winning that fight was as easy as swallowing a minnow!"
• As much use as a dead fox
A (harsh) insult, meaning the recipient is useless.
Examples:
"If you can't catch a mouse, your as much use as a dead fox!"
• Bees in your brain
An exclamation meaning confusion or a cat not making sense.
Examples:
"Do you have bees in your brain?"
• Buzzardfood
Alternative of crowfood.
Examples:
"You mangy piece of buzzardfood!"
• Chickfeed
Alternative of crowfood, used mostly by loners.
Examples:
"You mangy piece of chickfeed!"
• Crowfood
A (harsh) insult comparing the recipient to to rotting prey animals, or suggesting that they eat it.
Examples:
"You crowfood-eater!"
"I'll turn you into crowfood!"
"You many piece of crowfood!"
• (You're) crazier than a fox in a fit!
An insult used when a cat (or cats) are acting crazy. Another version uses "madder" instead of "crazier".
Examples:
"You're crazier than a fox in a fit if you think we'll abandon them!"
• Doesn't matter a whisker / doesn't catch so much as a whisker
An exclamation meaning the cat does not care, similar to "I don't give a mousetail". Or saying that a patrol didn't catch anything.
Examples:
"It doesn't matter a whisker that they have different beliefs."
"You didn't catch so much as a whisker!"
• Doormouse
An expression or exclamation used against a cat who sleeps a lot.
Examples:
"You doormouse, get up!"
• Drypaw
A cat that dislikes getting wet, usually used in TideClan.
Examples:
"There's gossip about him being a drypaw, but I don't believe it."
• Like FogClan
An expression stating that a cat does something very fiercely or well.
Examples:
"He fought in that battle like FogClan!"
• Featherbrain
A term used by FlightClan cats, equivalent to mouse-brain.
"Are you a featherbrain? You can't give up prey!"
• Fishface, fishfur or fish-breath
An insult used against TideClan.
Examples:
"Hey, fishface!"
• Flea-brain
A (friendly, yet harsh) insult. Severity of the insult almost always decided by tone.
• Foxbreath
A (harsh) insult used mostly by FlightClan.
• Fox-dung
A (harsh) insult comparing the recipient to fox feces. Also used as an exclamation.
Examples:
"You piece of fox-dung!"
"Oh fox-dung, it got away again!"
• Fox-hearted
An insult meaning cruel, cold-hearted, or evil.
Examples:
"Those fox-hearted twolegs!"
• Furball
A (friendly, yet harsh) insult. Severity of the insult is almost always decided by tone.

• Great StarClan!
An exclamation used to signify extreme surprise or anger. Similar to "Oh my god!" in usage and to the fact that they both have mention to a higher force.
Examples:
"Great StarClan, what's happened to you?"
• When hedgehogs will fly
An exclamation style statement that shows disbelief that a certain event will likely occur, used in many variations.
Examples:
"FlightClan cats learning to swim? Yeah, when hedgehogs will fly!"
• How in Silverpelt?
An exclamation used meaning "How in the world?".
Examples:
"How in Silverpelt did they sneak out?"
• I don't give a mousetail / they wouldn't give a mousetail
An exclamation meaning that the cat does not care. Another variation is "I would ___ for a couple of mousetails" meaning that they are willing to do the inserted action for no real reward. Can also mean that a cat would be stingy enough not to share a mousetail.
Examples:
"I don't give a mousetail that they think my plan is dumb."
• I'd have shredded you to mousedust!
To gravely injure, rip to shreds. Another version uses "mousemeat" instead of "mousedust".
Examples:
"If they hadn't been there to save you, I'd have shredded you to mousedust!"
• In all the stars
An exclamation.
Examples:
"In all the stars! What're you doing now?"
• It's better to scare away a mouse than welcome a badger
An old nursery saying that means that it's better to scare away a friendly cat than welcome a not-so-friendly cat.
"Remember, it's better to scare away a mouse than welcome a badger."
• Make dirt
To use the bathroom, or the dirtplace in warrior terms.
Examples:
"I have to make dirt, but go on. I'll catch up."
• May StarClan light your path / banish all the fleas from your nest
A friendly term used to tell others that they wish them well.
Examples:
"Goodbye, and may StarClan light your path!"
• May the sun warm your back and the fish leap into your paws
A blessing used in TideClan used to wish good dreams or, in some instances, to say farewell to a dead cat.
Examples:
"Farewell. May the sun warm your back and the fish leap into your paws."
• May you find good hunting, swift running, and shelter when you sleep
An ancient farewell used by both Clans, to say goodbye to loved ones on their way to StarClan.
Examples:
"Farewell. May you find good hunting, swift running, and shelter when you sleep."
• Mouse-brain
A (friendly yet harsh) insult. Severity of the insult is almost always decided by tone.
• Mouse-dung
A (somewhat harsh) insult comparing the recipient to mouse feces. Also used as an exclamation. Somewhat like "Darn it!"
Examples:
"Your worse than mouse-dung."
"Mouse-dung, that can't be right!"
• Mouse-hearted
An insult that describes one who is cowardly.
Examples:
"Your mouse-hearted if you think they deserve mercy."
• Mousefodder
An insult describing that the cat is worthless or a kittypet.
Examples:
"Your a mousefodder!"
• Once a kittypet, always a kittypet!
A harsh phrase used to describe a cat with kittypet roots.
Examples:
"Like my father always said, once a kittypet, always a kittypet!"
• (Only) StarClan knows (what)
Sometimes used to answer a question that is impossible to answer. Similar to "Only god knows what," "Only god knows," and "god knows."
Examples:
"Why white cats with blue eyes are deaf? Only StarClan knows."
• Pain in the tail
An insult meaning a cat is irritating or lazy.
Examples:
"He's a pain in the tail."
• Scaredy-mouse!
A similar expression to scaredy-cat, but in cat terms.
Examples:
"Come out, you scaredy-mouse! It's only a storm!"
• Scaredy-sparrow
Alternate to scaredy-mouse.
Examples:
"Come out, you scaredy-sparrow! It's only a storm!"
• Snake-tongue
An insult meaning cold or unfair; similar to "fox-hearted".
Examples:
"She's snake-tongued if she won't let us hunt here."
• Sorry catches no prey or sorry fills no bellies
Means cats can be sorry, but it won't change the past.
Examples:
"Sorry catches no prey, you were the one who scared the fish."
• StarClan's kits!
An exclamation of surprise or disbelief. Sometimes used as an exclamation if a cat is hurt.
Examples:
"StarClan's kits, what happened?"
• Tabbies don't change their stripes
Means that a cat doesn't change their nature. Equivalent to "a leopard can't change his spots."
Examples:
"You think he deserves mercy? Tabbies don't change their stripes."
• What in StarClan's name?
A exclamation similar to "What on earth?" or "What in the world?"
Examples:
"What in StarClan's name happened here?"
• That's a load of badger droppings
A harsh exclamation saying that something is nonsense.
Examples:
"I heard the elders saying he's dangerous, but that's a load of badger droppings."
• Thistles and thorns
Used to describe bad luck; similar to "Darn it!".
Examples:
"Thistles and thorns, I blew it!"
• You fight / hunt like a kittypet!
An expression used to insult or tease a cat who fights/hunts poorly.
Examples:
"Ha, you hunt like a kittypet!"
• Who made dirt in his / her fresh-kill / nest?
A phrase used to describe a cranky or suddenly moody cat.
Examples:
"Great StarClan, who made dirt in his nest?"
• Would've made mousemeat out of you!
To badly injure, rip to shreds. Similar to mousedust.

• Who ruffled their fur?
A similar way of saying "who got under their skin?" But in cat terms.
Examples:
"Jeez, who ruffled their fur?"
LIVING SPACES
• Camp
The place where a Clan makes its permanent home.
• Leader's den
The den in camp that belongs to the Clan leader.
• Medicine cat's den
The den in camp that belongs to the Clan's medicine cat and his or her apprentice. Sometimes referred to as the medicine den.
• Warriors' den
The den in camp that is shared between the warriors and the deputy of that Clan.
• Apprentices' den
The den in camp that is shared between the apprentices of that Clan.
• Elders' den
The den in camp that is shared between the elders of that Clan.
• Nursery
The den in camp that is shared by the queens and kits of that Clan.
• Dirtplace
The place near the camp where cats go to urinate or excrete.
• Fresh-kill pile
The place, usually in the center of the camp, where the warriors drop the prey they caught while hunting, so it is easily accessible to all the cats in the Clan.
CLAN RANKS
• Kit
A kitten younger than six moons.
• Apprentice
A cat at least six moons old, and training to become a warrior (or medicine cat).
• Warrior
A mature cat who has completed his or her warrior training. A she-cat is considered a warrior when she is not currently expecting or nursing a tom's kits.
• Mentor
A cat who is currently training an apprentice.
• Queen
A she-cat with kits to take care of or is pregnant with kits, or stays in the nursery helping other queens even though they have no kits.
• Elder
Cats who cannot hunt or fight anymore, sometimes due to injury, loss of sight, sickness, or are just too old to do their warrior duties. They are treated with great respect in the Clan. The apprentices in the Clan take fresh kill to them, pick out their fleas, and change their bedding.
• Medicine cat
A cat who heals injuries and/or illnesses, who is skilled with herbs, leaves and natural cures and sometimes receives special signs or prophecies from StarClan.
• Deputy
A warrior who is second in command to the leader, helping the leader in their tasks and replacing them after their death or resignment. They organize patrols and make reports to the leader, and are known to be frequently given apprentices.
• Leader
A cat who controls the entire Clan. A leader is granted nine lives by StarClan so they "can be first in every battle and last to take a piece of fresh-kill" basically giving them extra time to serve and lead their Clan.
