Release
A few days after my friends visited me, I was released from the hospital. About an hour before I was released, two more of my friends stopped by. We talked and played some games for a little bit, while packing up so I could leave as soon as I was released.
When my nurse came in, and gave my mom the paperwork I said goodbye to my friends. After a week of care in the ICU I was free. I had all kinds of care instructions and restrictions. Some made sense, others made less sense.
I waited in my room while my mom took all of my stuff out to the car. That was the last time I ever saw that room. What I remember most from it was the mirror being in the wrong place. It was set up so I couldn't see myself from my hospital bed.
My mom came back to the room, and held out her hand to help me walk. I slowly got up, and walked out of the room. We stopped by the nurse's desk and said goodbye, before getting in the elevator.
Oh, the elevator. That was an adventure by itself. The experience is very hard to describe, and many people will never feel it. At that point I wasn't used to standing, and my hormone balance wasn't quite right yet, so I was tired. I also wasn't used to movement, so when the elevator when down four floors, It felt like I was on a rollercoaster. Imagine you just woke up to find yourself on a rollercoaster with stitches in your back and a head scar. That's what going on the elevator was like.
Eventually, I got to the car, and opened the door. I sat down and it was like finally getting to sleep after running a marathon. My mom got in, and we slowly drove out of the parking lot. The speeds were slow enough where I didn't have too much of a problem with it. The real problems occurred when we started driving down the road. I could feel how fast we were going. I felt like a dog sticking its head out the window.
Luckily, the drive was only about 15 minutes, so I was home fast.
