- four: taehyung's trouble -

Hanna's life got back on track upon the completion of the history project, as she went back to the state where she would rarely speak to Taehyung.

Three weeks had passed, when Hanna was stopped by Taehyung one day after school, just as she was about to leave the classroom.

"We haven't spoken to each other in ages," Taehyung said with a shy expression, "Are you free today?"

And so, Taehyung brought Hanna to a small park that was not too far from school.

When the two were sitting on the swings, Taehyung took out a jar of strawberry jam from his school bag and handed it to Hanna, thanking her for making him breakfast during the days when they were punished.

"This strawberry jam is made with the strawberries that my family grew, you can make more toast with strawberry jam with it and I hope you like it." Taehyung said with a boxy smile.

"Thanks! That's so kind of you," Hanna was grateful but at the same time curious, "But why did you have to bring me here?"

"This is my secret hideout," Taehyung explained, "I come here alone for inner peace whenever I'm sad or troubled."

"So why are you here today?" Hanna went on asking, "Are you sad or troubled?"

Instead of directly answering Hanna's question, Taehyung scratched his head and asked embarrassedly, "Have you ever liked someone? Or been liked by someone else...?"

"Wh- what?" Shocked by Taehyung's sudden question, Hanna almost fell down from the swing, but fortunately Taehyung managed to catch her just in time.

"Are you alright? Did you get hurt?" Taehyung asked in a worried voice.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Hanna grinned awkwardly, "And you were saying...?"

"I bet you've heard about different girls going out with me," Taehyung let out a deep sigh, "But the truth is I've never wanted to go. I've been scared that rejecting them would hurt their feelings, and so I could never say no to their requests. Yet it's getting worse these days, more and more girls from school keep asking me to go to the movies or have dinner with them and it's been troubling me a lot... Since you're a girl too, I was thinking maybe you'd know how best to deal with this kind of situation, so I can reject them without hurting their feelings...?"

It was then when Hanna finally realized that Taehyung was not the playboy as she had thought, but instead, a kind boy— a boy too kind to reject the other girls' advances.

"I'm not experienced in handling this kind of situation," Hanna said, "But as a girl I'd rather the boy I like reject me directly than give me false hope when he doesn't actually like me back. Girls may get the wrong idea if you easily agree to go out with them, thinking that they've got a chance. So my advice for you is, if you don't like the girl, just say you're sorry but you don't have romantic feelings for her and think of her as nothing more than a friend."

"I see, thank you for letting me know your thoughts." Taehyung nodded, thinking that Hanna had a point. I guess I should really start trying to say no?

And so the two of them hung out on the swings for a bit longer, talking about the little things in life, before they finally went home at sunset.

Soon another week passed, and their class teacher Mr Song declared that a series of events would be held soon to celebrate the school's 42nd anniversary.

"Each class should send representatives to participate in the talent show," Mr Song announced, "And I hope you can give it your best, since classes with excellent performances can receive prizes."

It was decided that Hanna's class would perform contemporary couple dance, where 5 boys and 5 girls would dance together as 5 couples.

"Taehyung should be our class representative, all the girls downstage will scream for sure if he performs!"

"I know right, his face is the key to winning the championship."

"He's too popular to not perform!"

"Alright, alright, quiet please!" Whispers in the classroom quieted down as Mr Song spoke, "You can discuss all that later, just let me know who's going to perform by the end of this week, okay?"

"Yes, sir."

"Do you want to dance with me? Will you be my dancing partner?" Taehyung asked after class was dismissed.

"What, me?" Hanna pointed to her nose in shock, after looking around to check that Taehyung was speaking to her. "But I don't know how to dance! I'm sure there are other girls in class who can do a better job than me."

"It's okay, you can slowly learn dancing if you don't know how. The thing is, if I dance with the other girls, I'm worried that they'll get the wrong idea again, you know..."

"I see, I guess I'll dance with you then." Hanna smiled gently. So that's the reason why Taehyung wanted to dance with me? Sounds reasonable, but why am I feeling a bit disheartened inside...?

Hanna would never know, but what Taehyung didn't tell her was, "I would've still wanted to dance with you even if it weren't for the other girls."
