ღ life is tough pt2 - how to get a job
.......but I'm tougher 💪🏼
The last time I was writing this "series: life is tough" I was having a hard time securing a job and my dad had to sell his car to meet ends. I was a recent graduate, and like everyone else, I basically went online and sent my CV to all jobs in which I *somehow* met the criteria.
It wasn't easy because most of them required 2-3 years' experience and clearly, I have none.
In the end, I decided to change a bit of my Cover Letter and my CV. I *confidently* mentioned that I have no experience, however if the company decided to give me a chance, I would give my best and learn as much as I can to do the job.
And finally *with a bit of miracle, thank God* I started getting interviewed. I always knew that I wanted to be in the banking industries and one of the banks asked me to take this entrance test and I nailed it *again, a miracle* then I got to do some IQ and EQ tests. Once those are done, I finally got interviewed by the top tier and at that time, I was also interviewed by another bank.
For the 2nd bank, there wasn't any test but I had to interview 3 times. Once was with the person I would report to should I got in, another one with the board of management, then last one was with HR people. Those were three separate interviews.
Nerve wracking.
At the end, after careful consideration, I decided to join the 2nd bank even though the 1st bank gave me an opportunity to go to their "school" for 3 months to get a proper training but their salary offer wasn't that good (2nd one was better). And other than that, the 2nd bank said that if I did well, I might be retained in their HQ (capital city).
And now, three years later, I am still working at the 2nd bank. Since then I've been going through multiple storms, through many tasks and jobs, and I've also been promoted more than twice. It has been quite a journey for me.
The reason I decided to post this here (even though no one reads this anyway lol) is because I want to inspire all of you, my angels. I know most of you are still in college or high school or maybe you're currently getting frustrated trying to land a job.
Keep looking. Keep trying.
Be productive. Sending out CVs can't take that long. Use your spare time to enhance your skills. LinkedIn or Coursera has those free courses you can join. Those can hone your skills and expand your knowledge. Furthermore, you can add them into your CVs too.
Modify your CV and Cover Letter every now and then.
And please do NOT use one generic cover letter to apply for all different kind of jobs. Make it personal. This would show the hiring folks that you're serious about applying and that you at least know what the job is and what's required of you.
Don't give up. Pray if you have religion or beliefs. If you don't, then at least believe in yourself. Always remember that there's a time for everything.
And last but not least, if you need anything or have some questions, you can always drop a comment here. I always on Wattpad 25/8 ✨🧡
Yours,
Agatha
