Chapter 19

Jay was confused when he woke up and everything around him was white.  Was he actually dead?  Was this what it looked like when someone died?

"Jay."  He turned around when he heard his name and saw his adopted parents.

"Ma.  Dad."  Jay couldn't believe he was actually seeing them, but they were also with two people that Jay didn't really recognize.

"Hello Jay," the man he didn't recognize said.  "Last time we saw you was when we left you with this nice couple."

Jay was putting the pieces together in his head.  "Y-You're my birth parents."

"Yes, we are," the woman, Libber, said.

"We are all so proud of you," Edna told her adopted son.

"You spoke up for what you believed in," Ed added.

"I guess I died for what I believe in like all of you," Jay said with a small laugh.

Libber walked up to him and cupped his cheek.  She looked at him with a loving smile and tears in her eyes.  "My sweet boy, it's not your time yet."

"What?  I finally found my family again."

"You already found your family."

Jay knew what she meant.  He didn't want to leave when he just got reunited with both sets of parents, but at the same time, he wanted to be back with his brothers and the love of his life.

"We will always be with you."

Jay slowly opened his eyes.  The first thing he heard was a constant beeping sound.  He looked around and noticed that it was a heart monitor.  When he looked around, he also noticed everyone that was the room with him.  It wasn't just Lloyd, Cole, and Nya.  The rest of the group was there too.  They were all currently sleeping, but that made sense after how they all had just fought the emperor, empress, and royal guard.  Then again, Jay also didn't know how long he was out.  Nya was sleeping with her head on the edge of the bed Jay was laying on and she was holding his hand.

Nya started to stir in her sleep as she started to wake up.  When she lifted her head up, she was met with Jay looking back at her.  "Jay!" she said and wrapped her arms around him.  She also unintentionally woke everyobody else up.

Lloyd and Cole got up and stood right next to the bed once they noticed that Jay was awake.  "Don't ever scare us like that again," Cole said to Jay once Nya released him.

"We were worried that we might lose you," Lloyd said.

"You can't get rid of me that easily," Jay said with a smile.

"Cole and Zane were probably the ones that saved your life. They worked hard to help you until Princess Harumi got the palace doctor who treated you until we could get you to the hospital."

Kai, Zane, Skylor, PIXAL, and Seliel stood back and watched because they weren't close to Jay like the others were.

They all looked towards the door when they heard footsteps over there.  They expected it to be a doctor coming to check up on Jay.  They weren't expecting Harumi to be there.

"Princess Harumi," Kai said and he and Zane bowed.

"That's not necessary," Harumi said.  "Jay, I'm glad to see that you're doing better."

"Thank you," Jay said.

"Lloyd, can I talk to you for a minute?"

All heads turned to Lloyd.  They weren't sure what she wanted to talk to him about and that made them curious.  "Sure," Lloyd responded and walked into the hallway with Harumi.  "What is it, Princess?"

"Could you not call me Princess?  Please," Harumi said.

"Ok, Harumi.  What's wrong?"

"Since my parents are dead, Ninjago is in need of a new ruler."

"Isn't that you?"  Lloyd was kind of confused why Harumi was bringing this up to him.  She's the daughter of the emperor and empress.  Wouldn't she now take the throne?  At least, that's what he assumed.  He does trust her after she helped them...twice now.

"It doesn't feel right for me to take the throne," Harumi said.

"What do you mean?"

"You're the son of Lord Garmadon.  Your dad was the ruler first.  The throne should be yours."

"I don't know if I'm cut out for that."

"Well, it doesn't feel like the throne should be mine.  I know it might be difficult, but I think you would be able to pick up on it."

Lloyd sighed and then a light bulb went off in his head.  "I think I have an idea."

2 weeks later

"Presenting King Lloyd and Queen Harumi!"

Lloyd and Harumi made their way down the stairs to where the group of people that were there for the coronation party in the palace were.  Everyone in Ninjago was invited.  Lloyd went over to his friends while Harumi went to go talk to other people at the party.

"All hail, Your Majesty," Cole said and did an overexaggerated bow.

"Shut up," Lloyd said and playfully punched Cole's arm.

"So, how does it feel being King of Ninjago?" Kai asked.

"Terrifying," Lloyd answered honestly.  "Why did I agree to be co-rulers with Harumi again?"

"Didn't you tell us that it was your idea," Seliel said and put an arm on Cole's shoulder.

"You'll do just fine, Lloyd," Skylor said.

"I hope so.  Me and Harumi are the children of the bad rulers of two eras of Ninjago.  I hope that we can show the citizens of Ninjago that they don't have to live in fear anymore."

"You will," Nya said.  "I'm sure of it."

"We are here to help you if you need it," Zane said.

"You do not need to do this alone," PIXAL added.

"How are you doing, Jay?" Lloyd asked.  "I know what happened last time you were in a big crowd."

"I'm dealing with it," Jay responded.

"If by dealing with it you mean squeezing my hand for dear life, I'd say you're dealing with it well," Nya replied sarcastically with a smile tugging at her lips.

"Congratulations, Lloyd," a woman said as she came up to them.  The woman had a man with a long white beard right behind her.

"Thanks, mom," Lloyd said.  After Harumi announced that she and Lloyd would be taking the throne, they released everyone who was wrongfully imprisoned.  Lloyd spent a lot of time with his mother and uncle in the past couple of weeks trying to catch up with them on everything that has been going on in his life.  "It's great to have you guys back."

"It is great to be back with you, Lloyd," Wu said.

Misako looked over to the people that Lloyd was talking with before.  "You guys must be Lloyd's friends," she said.  They all nodded.  She then looked over to the boy wearing blue.  "You must be Jay.  Lloyd told us a lot about you.  How are you doing?"

"Still recovering, but other than that, I'm fine, Mrs. Garmadon," Jay responded.

"Please.  Call me Misako.  Thank you for looking out for Lloyd."

"Of course.  It's better to have someone around than being alone."

"I heard about what the emperor and empress did to your family.  As far as I'm concerned, you're a part of our family now and Lloyd said that you're going to come live with us at the palace."

Jay couldn't believe what he was just told.  He honestly hadn't thought about where he was going to go.  He had just been released from the hospital that morning.  They wanted to monitor him for a couple of weeks due to the severity of it.  He really did come close to dying.  "R-Really?"

"Of course," Lloyd said.  "I can't let you go back to living in that warehouse and finishing recovering in the palace would be better anyways.  That way we could have a doctor on standby just in case."

Jay smiled and gave Lloyd a fistbump.  At least he now had a proper place to live.

Kai and Nya are trying to make up with their parents, but both sides know that it will take a while to rebuild trust.  Zane has his dad back.  Skylor, PIXAL, and Seliel all have their dads back which left one person.

Cole noticed his dad was in the crowd.  It has been three years since they've seen each other.  He didn't know how his dad would react to seeing him again.  He slowly walked over to him.  "Hi dad," he said.  His dad turned around.

"C-Cole?" his dad, Lou, said unsure.

"Yeah.  It's me."

Cole didn't expect how quickly his dad hugged him.  Maybe he really was missed.  "I'm sorry that you felt like you had to leave," Lou said.  "I had already lost your mother because of the emperor and empress.  I didn't want to lose you too."

"Wait."  Cole got his dad to release him.  "You knew?!"

"Of course I knew what they did!  Your mother knew something like that could happen.  She made me promise to keep you safe and I thought the best way to do that was to act like I agreed with the emperor and empress, but I guess there was just no stopping you from getting involved yourself.  I'm sorry."

"I forgive you.  I'm sorry for running away, dad."

"Don't apologize.  You had to follow your own path.  I am so proud of you and I hope that we can mend our relationship."

"I'd like that."  Something his dad was standing by caught his eye.  "Is that the chocolate fountain?!"  Lou stepped aside to let his son go to the chocolate fountain.  Cole grabbed a marshmallow and dipped it into the chocolate and ate it.  "I've been waiting to try this since Lloyd told me about it when we broke into the palace the first time.  He was right.  It is delicious."  Lou laughed at his son's reaction to the chocolate fountain.

Lloyd and Harumi went back to the front of the party.  "We have something else to show everybody if you will all follow us."  Lloyd and Harumi led everybody out of the palace and walked a bit further down until they got to a memorial that wasn't there before.  "We had this memorial made to honor everybody who was killed during the reigns of my father, Lord Garmadon, and the emperor and empress."

"We feel that all the people who wrongfully died should be honored," Harumi added.  No one should be forgotten.  We can't forget the past, but we can make a better future."

"We are not our parents and we would like a chance to prove that to all of you."

A majority of the party started looking through the memorial for their loved ones' names.  Lloyd and Harumi went over to their friends who were still standing at the enterance.  They were looking at the stones that mentioned Lord Garmadon, the emperor, and the empress.

"You also included Ninjago's former rulers," Zane commented.

"Yeah," Lloyd said.  "Like Harumi just said, we can't forget the past.  Although, we do have something that we would like to show you guys."  Lloyd and Harumi lead them over to the biggest stones there and it had the names Cliff Gordon, Libber Gordon, Ed Walker, Edna Walker, and Lily Hence.

"Y-You didn't have to do this," Jay stuttered out.

"Of course we did," Lloyd said and put a hand on Jay's shoulder.  "They laid the foundation for our rebellion against the emperor and empress."

"Thank you, Lloyd...and Harumi," Cole said.  He quickly added in Harumi when he remembered that they were both involved in this project.

"This needed to be done for everyone to be able to heal," Harumi said.

Jay smiled.  "It's just like you said when we came out here.  We can always make a better future and I think we're on our way to having our better future."

A/N: There will be one more chapter to wrap things up.  I hope you enjoyed!
