Chapter 17 - The Wedding

(Just to warn you all, this chap changes POV a lot. You have been warned!!!)

Caleb

I cannot believe that today is the day; the day I will marry Cara will be together legally forever.

She's now three and a half months pregnant and we are finding out the gender on Friday.

The technology Erudite has now makes it so you can find out the gender sooner.

I hope that everything goes perfect, but it's already not. My mother, father and sister aren't here, nor her mother and brother. It just doesn't feel right; having a wedding without most of our families. My heart aches for my parents to come, and for my sister to be here. To have Tris walk down the aisle as a bridesmaid, to have my parents smiling in the crowd, to have Will be my best man, to have Cara's mother be here as well...

But that's not going to happen. I cannot change the past.

Tears brim my eyes. Caleb, you can't cry now, today is suppose to be a happy day. Pull yourself together.

I take a few deep breaths and wipe my eyes on the back of my shirt sleeve. I haven't gotten dressed in my tux yet because the ceremony doesn't start until three and its eleven now.

Some of my friends from initiation and the faction in general are coming over at 1 ish and we are going to just go together as a group to the main building. Unlike Cara and her girlfriends have been getting ready since 7 this morning. I find that kind of crazy, but hey! I won't judge.

Cara

Oh. My. God.

I cannot believe that it's today! It went by so fast! It feels like we were just engaged yesterday! Now we're getting married and have been expecting for over three months! The thought brings tears to my eyes. Ugh! Stupid hormones!

Me and my other two bridesmaid friends that I grew up with have been hanging out at my friend, Anne's apartment all morning, Christina couldn't make it because it was too early and it takes too long to get here, so she's meeting us here at 1. We all decide to start doing makeup now.

"So, is your father making it?" Anne asks.

"Yeah."

Mom isn't making it, nor is Will, or Caleb's parents, or Tris. My eyes begin to water.

"Hey, smile! Your getting married! Today is a happy day!" Sue tries to cheer me up.

"I know, but so many people couldn't come."

"What do you mean? You said a lot of people RSVPed."

"Yeah, but not those people. I mean my mother, Will, Caleb's parents, and Caleb's sister, Tris. They are all... dead." I start to cry.

These hormones aren't helping at all right now...

They are all silent, but Anne speaks up.

"I'm sure they're here, they are watching over the two of you even though you may not know it." She says pointing to my heart.

I smile.

"I don't know what I'd do without you girls." I sob. Now my hormones are just going crazy and I'm crying for no reason.

We all end up in this weird hug and end up laughing at how it failed.

"Probably not the best time to have hormones, huh." I laugh.

They laugh in reply.

"Let's get started on your makeup first, Sue." Anne says.

Christina

"Come on, Four! We have to catch the train!" I call picking up my purse.

My dress is at one of Cara's friends house, so I won't have to deal with that on the train.

"Coming! It's been a while since I've worn a tie!" He jokes. "It's not that easy you know!"

I laugh.

He walks out of his bedroom all dressed up. I haven't seen him this cleen since... well, let's just say it's been a while...

"Ready?" He asks.

"I've been waiting for you! Of course!" I laugh.

I cannot believe that he's actually going. I would have never have thought it would have been this easy! I figured I would be dragging him out of the apartment. Well, I shouldn't say anything yet considering that were only just leaving the compound.

The train whistle blows signaling that it's coming; I get ready to run.

The train is almost here and I begin to run with Four behind me. I open the door and swing myself in with Four right after me.

It's about a ten minute train ride to the Erudite headquarters, so I make myself comfortable on the floor. Four eventually ends up sitting down next to me and we wait until we get there, then we get up and jump.

Cara

We are just starting on Anne's makeup when there is a knock on the door.

"It's probably Christina. I'll go get it." I say heading over to the door.

As I guessed, there stands a smiling Christina at the door.

"Happy wedding day!" She says, cheerfully.

"Thank you!" I smile.

"Wow! Your getting big! How many months along are you now?"

"Two and a half. We are finding out the gender on Friday."

"That's so exciting! Be sure to call and tell me what it is!"

"Of course I will! Come in! Make yourself comfortable."

"Oh yeah! You guys don't know each other! This is Christina. Christina, these are my friends Anne and Sue." I say feeling stupid for forgetting.

A round of hi's and nice to meet you's go throught them.

"Hey, Christina? You don't happen to be good at makeup do you? Neither of us are to good..." Sue asks Christina.

"I can try... I do work at the tattoo parlor in the compound... But I'm not the best."

"Hey! Who cares! Something is better than nothing!" Anne laughs.

We spend about the next half hour doing makeup then get into our dresses and head down to the main building of the compound.

Tobias

I still can't believe I actually came. Why did I come? I'm beginning to freak out.

"Four! Get a hold of yourself! Everything will be fine! Chill!" That annoying voice in my head says.

Concidering that I'm here really early because Chris had to be here early, I decide to check out the compound a little. I've been here a lot, for good and bad reasons, but it changes a lot, and I am bored and really have nothing else to do for the next hour.

Caleb

I'm walking down to the main building with my two other friends when I see Four strolling around the compound looking really bored.

He actually came! That puts a smile on my face. It makes me feel like a piece of Tris is here, even though we don't seem to be on the best terms...

"Hey, Four!" I call.

He looks in my direction and waves beginning to walk over.

"This is Four. He's from Dauntless." I tell Dan and Tom.

They nod in responce.

"How do you two know each other?" Dan asks.

I hesitate not wanting to say that he's my sisters boyfriend, because they know that she's dead, and that would bring up conversation and possibly upset Four as it would me.

"He's an..." I start.

"I'm an old family friend." He finishes the sentence for me.

"Yeah." I go with it.

"You want to walk with us? We are heading down to the main building for the ceremony." I ask.

"I'll probably need the help getting there, so sure!" He jokes.

We all walk down to the main building with an awkward silence between us.

Christina

We all just slipped on our dresses and now are trying to help Cara with hers. The baby bump isn't helping too much...

"She's in!" Anne jokes. "Now let's zip her up, Christina!"

I laugh and zip the back of her dress. It's really beautiful. Not to big and poofy, but not to small and ordinary. Perfect for her and her medium sized baby bump as well.

We all put on our shoes and head down to the main building laughing to the point of almost crying. But then we'd stop because we already took an hour on makeup and couldn't take any more time.

When we get there, we line up. I'll be walking down the aisle third with Caleb's best man. Anne is infront of me and Sue is infront of her with Caleb's other two groomsmen. Cara is behind all of us walking down last.

Only five minutes till the Ceremony starts.

Tobias

Three minutes till they will start to walk down the aisle. Caleb is already down here waiting. I'm glad that I don't have a part in this wedding... I would freak out and panic about being around Caleb so long. Being here is enough.

The organ begins to play and after a few seconds, the bridesmaids and groomsmen slowly begin to walk down the aisle to the alter.

When the classic "Here Comes the Bride" begins to play, we all stand for Cara's entrance.

She walks as slow as the rest of them did down the aisle. And, wait, what? Is she... pregnant?!

I swear that I have my mouth hanging open. She's nineteen, and so is he! I mean, I wouldn't be as shocked if they were Dauntless because that would be normal, but this is Erudite, the faction that believes having kids at thirty is stupid!

But I'm still happy for them. They're going to get the life I wish that I could have in the near future.

But I know that I won't.

We all sit and the ceremony begins.

Hi Humans!

So, it's been snowing for 12 hours straight today. 7am to 7 pm (right now) and it's still hasn't stopped snowing! We've lost power twice! But I'm updating now before it goes out again! Strangely enough, we only do have 7 or 8 inches for it snowing that long...
