Best Possible Morning
Note the sarcasm^^
After trying and failing to go back to sleep I decide to have a shower and get some food before finding something to occupy myself before school starts.
Plonking down the dented wooden stairs, wet hair still dripping from my shower I make a bee line to the fridge. The light from the kitchen window is almost blinding when I walk in. Basic silhouettes and shapes slowly come into focus as I shield my eyes.
"Good morning sweetie!"
I almost jump out of my skin.
What is she, a ninja?
I try looking in the direction of my mums voice and see a brief shadow of someone standing next to the sink. Right in-front of the blinding window where the sun rise shines directly in
No wonder I couldn't see her.
"Your up early again! You must be so excited for today right!", my overly enthusiastic parent beams at me - In more ways than one.
"Yeah, sure mum."
"Your not stressing out at all are you?!"
"...No"
I shouldn't have hesitated.
"Oh sweetie, you do great as long as you try your best!"
Shadow mum walks closer until I can focus on her features properly. Her chocolate coloured eyes twinkle when she smiles and slightly wrinkle when she laughs, her thin hair always tied back in a loose bun. I have the same coloured light brown hair as my mother, but thats about the only thing I got in the looks department from her.
When see gets to me she wraps me up in what can only be described as mum hug.
"Mum it's not even a big deal why would I be stressing out about it!", I muffle through her smothering.
"Of course it is! It's your first day of being a senior!", She insists.
Still struggling to get out of her grasp I gag out,
"You have to let me go or I'm going to be late!"
Her arms immediately sprung off my like a suddenly caught fire.
" Oh my goodness, the time! You have to go!", she shrieked while I am already half way out the door.
Urg. I didn't even get to eat.
The door shut with a loud click.
Freedom!
I sit down on the dusty front doorsteps and take out my phone. School normally starts at around 8:45am, so I should still have some time to kill before I have to take the platforms to the senior campus. I switch on my phone and in glowing green letters it clearly reads 8:34am. I stare at it for a second. Wait...WHAT! 8:34! That means I only have 11 minutes to get there crap! I bolt upright, shaking the numbing déjà vu feeling from the dream and shoving my phone in my pocket with the time already ticking to 8:35am.
8:41am. 4 minutes until first bell. I run up to the platform station sweating and panicking. Not even taking a break to catch my breath I race of to the schedule board. There's on coming in about a minute, great! The platform is lined with sleek benches and neat looking staff. Only the best for the most prestigious flight school in the whole world.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity the familiar hum of the giant cement looking platform hovers down to land next to the station. As it gets closer I can just make out the blue spray painted letters on the side of it. 'W.A.H.P.T'. I rush on as soon as they open the gate to get on. The ride up feels like its going in slow motion as I'm checking my phone every 5 seconds.
8:44am. 1 minute until first bell. The platforms edge slowly met the campus grounds. I practically jump out of hovering vehicle an stumble my way into the courtyard, just as the bell rings. A sigh of relief comes out effortlessly as I rest my hands on my knees to catch my breath.
A hand slaps against my back sending me stumbling forwards until another strong hand grabs my and yanks my upright.
"Hahaha! Callum, way to cut it close man, I thought you might not have made it!
Noah Banner. My best friend since childhood. We've always gotten along and he is one of the only people that knows about my anxiety issues. My fear of always being boring and dragging every I love down with me.
"Hey Noah, its been a while." I rasped, still trying to catch my breath and silently cursing my unathleticness, while dragging Noah to the Main Hall entrance where people have started to file in. We walk in to the dimly lit room. Most people would just of course take their seats and wait for the entrance ceremony to start, but being the oblivious person I am I stand stock still, looking in awe at the glorious room the size of a small stadium. I turn to look at Noah, who is looking at me with an expression implying that he asked a question.
"Sorry, what?"
"Well while you were off in la la land, I asked you where you wanted to sit.", Noah says, clearly amused.
"Oh...yeah, anywhere is fine."
"Ok well then lets go!"
Noah starts walking towards the middle rows. He always takes the lead because he knows how if I try to, my anxiety will flare up and I will end up having a mental breakdown. The seats are almost all taken, and as I follow Noah I scan the filled seats to see if I can recognise anyone.
No luck. As we get to the unoccupied seats the barely lit room goes completely dark and a spotlight beams on a smartly dressed man on the stage.
