"Fucking hell!" roared Arch, slamming his fist onto the table. I jumped slightly and slumped against the chair as Arch glared at all of us. "If one of you doesn't start working your mouths, people will start dying."
"Shut up, we're doing the best we can motherfu-" Lucy started, but I shot her a quick glare. She instantly shut her mouth and blew air through her nostrils. "Never mind."
"Damn right never mind," hissed Arch, pushing himself off the table and pacing again. "First my mate is in a coma, now my children are gone. How could this happen? Were you idiots not watching her?"
"Okay." I stood up, making Jackson grab my arm. I shook his hand off and glared at Arch, my body shaking with anger. "Listen up," I snarled at him, "I understand you're upset, worried, and angry right now, and rightfully so." I narrowed my eyes dangerously. "But that, in no way whatsoever, does not give you a reason to threaten innocent people and then insult me and my family."
Arch opened his mouth, shrinking back as if terrified of my tone of voice. Good. I held up my hand, indicating I wasn't finished with my little rant.
"Hang on, you little snot-nosed jerk," I snapped, meeting his gaze with my fire-like silver, blue, and gray ones. "You'll let me finish, or so help me I will throw you out this window and feed you to my dragon." I clenched my jaw, satisfied that he didn't try to interrupt me again. "Are we clear?"
Arch nodded his head quickly, swallowing and running his hands through his hair. I nodded once, then said. "Damn well. Now, if you calm down we can have this conversation in a nice, friendly way. But so help me if you keep threatening to drop bodies, I will be the only one dropping your body. Understood?"
Arch nodded and scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Mhm," he said in a slightly scared time. "Perfectly."
"Good." I pinched the bridge of my nose and let out a heavy breath. "Now, let's continue this talk normally."
Silence filled the room quickly and I slid back down in my seat. Jackson's hand met my back and he started rubbing soothing circles. I glanced gratefully at him and inner my throbbing temples.
"Anyways," my father murmured, his eyes sliding up to Arch. "We're upset too, okay?" he breathed out, shaking his head in stress. "But .. But .."
I've never seen my father look so broken in his life, and frankly it kind of scared me. "Daddy.." I murmured, wrapping my arms around him.
My father hugged me back and I felt his tears make my own cheeks wet. We rocked one another back and forth, weeping.
"Dad-"
The door suddenly slammed open and a few unfamiliar people ran in, looking grim. "Mr. Foreigner. Mrs. Foreigner."
My parents stood up, shocked. "Have you found the twins?" she breathed.
The men glanced at each other, looking filled with guilt. "No, I'm afraid we have some bad news," the first one said quietly.
I felt dread well up inside of me. Oh no.
How could this possibly get any worse than it already was?
"Yes?" My mother managed out uneasily.
"We .. We found your son, Kevin, his wife, and daughter all dead in their home. Murdered."
My mother gasped, I heard the sound distantly. My hands went to my mouth and I slowly backed up, tears welling up.
My knees buckled out from under me.
--
"Come on, sweetheart," a familiar, soothing voice urged me. "You have to wake up.."
"No.." I whimpered, rolling over and trying to keep tears from building up again. The moment I came back consciousness, the news of Kevin and his family's death came running back to me. "Leave me be.. Please.."
"Stop, stop," the voice replied, followed by soft hands on my arms. "Please don't cry. Open your eyes. Look at me."
I forced my eyes open and I gazed up at the broken, sad face of my mother. Her warm, soft hands cupped my cheeks and she kissed my head. "That's it, sweetie."
"Mommy. They're gone.." I whispered, holding my arms out and sniffling. "I .. I can't believe it."
"I know honey." She wrapped her arms around me. "I know." Her lips pressed to my head.
"Mom .. Where's everyone else?" I whispered.
Mom swallowed hard and looked at me sadly. "They're with the council."
"Why..?"
"Honey, the war has started."
