Chapter 35: Carly & Terrance

Sorry for no recent updates, guys, but lately I've been a bit busy and also I'm editing THOADR. It's so much better now that it's being edited. ~

Enjoy!

(By the way, you can thank my amazing cousin for suggesting Terrance's role in the series. He likes Terrance and Manny a lot, so I figured I'd bring Terrance back in. :P )

I let go of Terrance's neck hesitantly and stepped back, pursing my lips. "Terrance?"

"Long time no see," he said lightly, a smile tilting on the left side of his mouth. "You've certainly become more .. defensive."

"What are you doing here?" I asked, then paused. "Wait, how are you even in Dragon's Cove?"

"We've been invited," he explained, pushing himself off of the wall. "By the Hovers."

I was sure my eyes were as wide as saucers. Now I knew for sure that Terrance wasn't here for a simple visit, I should have known anyways. I licked my lips and blinked. "Okay. You're obviously not a dragon rider."

"Correct," he threw back, smiling. "But we're in alliance with you."

I glanced at the girl, Carly, who was looking around curiously. Her eyes landed briefly on my necklace, then snapped her gaze away. "Warlock?" I offered.

Terrance shook his head. "Woof."

"You're a werewolf?"

"Yup," he confirmed cheerfully, smiling more. "It's great to see you again."

"Yeah," I agreed, furrowing my eyebrows. "You too. Dang, never saw this coming. A werewolf. Hm."

"It's not as strange as you might think," Terrance promised, then glanced at the couch. "May I sit down?"

I walked over to the lap on the side table and switched it on, then went and switched another on. I didn't want to turn the whole living room lights on. Call me a creeper if you must, but I didn't want to at the moment. "Yeah, go ahead."

Terrance sat down, but Carly remained standing. Terrance cleared his throat loudly, causing the girl to look over at him and raise her eyebrows. Terrance nodded his head to the seat beside him and the two stared at each other thoughtfully, as if sharing a quiet connection. I assumed it was the pack link, sort of like I have with my Hover. Except I don't use the Hover link at all.

Finally Carly sat down beside Terrance hesitantly and crossed her legs, leaning back.

"Can I get you guys anything?" I asked them, tapping my fingers awkwardly against my leg. "Coffee?"

"I'll take a coffee," Carly spoke finally, looking up at me with a small smile. "If it's not to much trouble."

"Not at all. Terrance?" I looked at the male who was seemingly lost in his own mind.

"Huh?" He shook his head, strands of his sandy-brown-blonde hair draping around his forehead. His hair had since I last saw him, and was in a ponytail except for strands that he had missed. "Oh, coffee. Yes, with lot's and lot's of sugar please?"

I nodded. I went into the kitchen and made three coffees, then brought them out. After passing the mugs out I sat on the fainting couch a few feet away from the couch they were sitting on and lifted the mug to my lips. A few moments later, I said, "So, werewolf huh?"

Terrance chuckled, his grey eyes amused. "Surprised?"

"Yes, actually," I admitted.

Terrance took another sip of his coffee. "It was pretty difficult being around all that magic when Manny brought me over to your house that one time. The snowball fight, remember?"

A smile lit my face at the memory, but dropped when I remembered Ken happened to be there also. "Yeah," I murmured, blinking softly.

"You're powerful," he told me, looking at the brown liquid in the mug. "Dormant magic, true, but still powerful. I can't imagine how powerful when your magic comes out of it's dormant state."

I shrugged, shaking my head. "I don't know." My eyes wandered to Carly. "Why were you sneaking into my house, you could have just knocked. And what do you want with this?" I reached down and grabbed the orb dangling from my necklace and held it up between my index finger and thumb.

"I was trying to stop her," Terrance explained, glancing sternly at Carly, who was eyeing the orb. "She thinks we might be able to access the magic."

"It seems you haven't done much reading, then," I replied, tucking the necklace back into my shirt. "The orb's magic only works for the one who it was made for. Also, it's attracted to a magic dragon rider's have in their blood so it wouldn't work anyways if you had one made. You may have shifter magic, but the magic in a dragon rider could kill you."

"It didn't kill your ancestor," Carly pointed out.

"You're right, it didn't." I set down the mug on the ground beside me. "But that was because the dragons chose him, and some others, to bless their blood with. Because of that, we can carry on dragon's blood for generations without having to take from our dragons."

"Warlocks?"

"They kill, and drink, a dragon's blood. The thing is though, they've been doing that for a long time and their systems have gotten used to it. A large amount could still kill them."

"Well, that sucks balls," Carly mumbled, downing her coffee in one swig. She then set the mug down and sighed. "Sorry for breaking into your house."

"No worries." I smiled a little. "Just don't do that again, or someone else might accidentally kill you."

"Noted."

I turned my eyes to Terrance again. "How's Manny?"

"He misses you and Lucy," admitted the werewolf, sighing softly. "And Ken, sometimes."

I pursed my lips at the mention of Ken, but Terrance doesn't seem to notice. "I miss him, too. I just .. I feel bad for not thinking about him much anymore and not taking time to try and contact him. It makes me feel like a real bitch."

"I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong." Terrance drank some more of his coffee. "At least I know what your excuse is, but Manny's concerned. He hasn't heard from you, hasn't seen you.. I told him that there's a possibility you're just really busy and don't have good service."

"Thanks, Terrance," I said softly. I picked my mug back up was about to lift it to my lips, but then I remembered something I didn't until now. I shouldn't be drinking caffeine. I removed the mug from near my face and set it back down, so not tempted to take a sip even though I've already done that.

"Anything new, well, besides you being married and all?" Terrance asked while Carly did something on her phone in boredom.

I twirled a strand of hair around my finger and thought for a moment. "Well, I'm pregnant."

Carly's head snapped up from her phone and Terrance blinked. "We know."

I raised my eyebrows. "How do you know, exactly?" I questioned suspiciously. Nobody outside mine and Jackson's family knew besides Quince, Amanda, and Lucy. There's no possible way anyone else could have known that, because we all swore to keep it to ourselves.

Carly, surprisingly, answered before Terrance, "It's your scent. For wolves, we know who's mated, or pregnant, or what their rank and pack is, or if they are sick,  based on their scent. For other species, like humans.. sort of-" She squinted, debating on whether I'd be considered human probably due to my magic, "-we can tell if they're pregnant or sick.. Werewolves have the scent abilities stronger than regular dogs and wolves. We could smell cancer on a human in it's earliest stages. That's why we usually become things like police officers, or doctors, or something that saves lives in the workforce. Most werewolves love helping people using their senses and abilities."

I took in her words, nibbling on my bottom lip. "That's really epic. Can you tell if a pregnancy is healthy? More than a normal doctor can?"

Carly tilted her head and gazed at my stomach, setting her phone aside. She stood up and strides over to me, making me frown in confusion. She bent down to my height by crouching and placing her hands in front of my stomach, palms out. "May I?" she asked, glancing at my stomach and then at me for permission.

I nodded my head, and watched as she slowly guided her hands and gently placed them on my stomach. They were warm and light, thankfully. She didn't apply pressure or push at my stomach, or rub it in circles. She just held them there for a long moment while Terrance and I watched. My heart raced nervously.

"Relax," Carly told me softly, picking up my fast heartbeat and giving me a reassuring smile. "Nothing's wrong, I'm just picking some things up is all."

"Sometimes our Goddess, the Moon Goddess, or Selene as she's known as to us and many others, gifts some people of our kind with a special power or gift. Carly happened to be one of those people," Terrance told me as he walked over and stood over us, watching Carly. "She's able to help people calm down when they're nervous by sending out this sort of relaxing wave, like how soft music would calm one. She was also granted the gift of heightened touch and hearing. Stronger than a normal wolf. Her touch is able to give her information about someone. Their age, their blood-type, and sometimes emotions. Little things that normal senses can't normally pick up."

"You can't pick up blood type?" I looked away from Carly and up at Terrance now, deeply curious.

"Not unless the person's bleeding, or we have our nose directly on a vein. We can smell things outside your body from far away, like shampoo scent you have, or sweat."

"That's pretty frickin' awesome."

Carly pulled her hands away and smiled. "Your baby is perfectly fine, just make sure you keep eating healthy."

"The doctor said around four or five months I'll know the gender," I said, cocking my head. "Is it different because I'm magic or something?"

Carly and Terrance glanced at each other and considered. "It's possible, but you'd have to ask your Mom. I can't tell the gender, but I would be able to at two months. You seem about a month and a half along."

"I think I am." I shrugged sheepishly. "I keep forgetting to keep track of how long along I am. I'll go back and do that soon."

Carly stood up and turned to Terrance. "Thanks for the coffee, Faye. We should go, I think, our Alpha needs us."

"Anything wrong?" I asked, standing as well and gathering the mugs.

"No, he's just pissy." Terrance sighed. "See you later."

I waved them a goodbye as I watched them leave and then put the mugs in the sink. After, I go upstairs to track my pregnancy so I can get it over with and not have to do it later.

Ooh a longer chapter for once. :3

So, soon, I'm not sure when, I'm going to be creating two new stories. They're going to be like The Hidden One's Journey, except about Lucy and Manny. It may be sometime next year or later this year, depending on how I can work things out with my writing.

Until next time!
