"Don't go, Jackson," I mumbled, gripping my husband closer to me. His bare chest pressed against my bare chest as I gazed up at him, my finger tracing his jawline gently as I did. His hands slid down to my waist, sending little fireworks all over my skin. A chill was sent down my exposed spine and I shivered slightly.
"Are you cold?" he mumbled, kissing my shoulder softly. He nudged my bra and jeans off the bed, where they had been flung a couple hours ago. He pulled the sheets over our bodies and pressed his forehead to mine.
"You just make me .. " I breathed out, closing my eyes in bliss for a moment. ".. Really happy. You have no idea what affect you have on my body."
He chuckled, kissing my nose softly. "I think I do, Butterfly," he replied, lifting his hand from under the covers and tucking a strand of stray hair behind my ear. I leaned into his touch and closed my eyes again, never wanting the moment to end.
"Don't leave," I repeated, opening my eyes again and gazing into his chocolate brown ones. I gave him the 'innocent, pleading' look that I could use to my advantage, according to Lucy yesterday when she was helping me take care of the babies. "Please.."
Jackson rubbed circles into the skin of my arm with his thumb, our eyes still locked. He sighed and ran his free hand through his messy hair. "I don't want to, Butterfly, but your parents and mine have really important matters to discuss.."
"When do you leave again?" Disappointment laid flat on my chest.
"Four hours."
I wriggled around so my back faced him so I could get my phone. I lifted it slightly off of the nightstand and pressed the button so it would wake up, and I saw the time. It was three o' nine. Sighing, I set the phone down and turned back to him. "It's so late though, when you leave," I pointed out, pursing my lips.
Jackson nodded his head, pulling our bodies closer together. "Yeah I know."
"Why?" I yawned, tucking my head under his chin and placing my hand on his warm chest. I could feel his heartbeat, soothing my disappointment slightly.
He shrugged his shoulders, meeting my hand with his over his chest. "I don't know. That's just the time I was told the meeting would be."
I nibbled on my tongue, deciding to press the matter a bit. "Is this about the Slayers? The war?"
His eyes flashed with something. "There's no war, Faye."
I sighed, pulling back from him and sitting up on the bed and looking at him. "Jackson I'm pregnant, not stupid."
"Those two things don't even make sense together.." Jackson gave me a strange look, sitting up on his elbow.
"Shut up. My point is, I know this is about a war," I stated, crossing my arms and sucking in my cheeks for a moment before puffing them back out. "I can tell that's what you're heading for. Late night meetings, secretive shit you can't tell me, council members always coming over and disappearing with our parents and sometimes yourself into their office..and someone always guarding outside so I can't hear it."
Jackson was silent for a long moment, and I knew that I had been right. They were discussing war, and they had been trying to keep me from finding out. It's actually kind of amusing how they attempted to keep all of this from me, seeing as they know exactly who I am. I will always find a way to find things out, because I'm just so stubborn.
"You're right," Jackson admits out loud, sitting up as well and leaning his head against the bed's headboard. "We've been discussing it, but nothing's been confirmed or official yet."
I rubbed the side of my head and nodded, leaning on the pillows as I thought for a long moment. "Any alliances?"
"So far we have the werewolves, elemental's, and warlocks on our side," Jackson replied, picking my hand up and playing with my fingers. "If we sign a deceleration of war, they all promised us their alliance. They offered it, we never asked for it."
"I'm assuming they know about the Slayers."
"Yeah. Werewolves have their own types of Slayers," he explained, rubbing my fingers with his. "They're called Hunters, and they search out and kill werewolves without mercy."
"Elemental's?"
"They just fight on the side that's good," he hummed. "According to them, anyways."
I nodded my head and grew silent, blowing out a breath. Jackson and I laid there for a while in silence, causing me to fall into a peaceful sleep.
--
When I woke up, Jackson was gone. He had left a note saying he loved me and he'd be back as soon as he could. I slipped out of bed and took a shower, not concerned about the babies. They were staying with Quince for a while, she had decided I needed a break from taking care of them these couple weeks.
After getting cleaned up and dressed, I step down the stairs to go get something to eat. My stomach growled.
I heard something fall, followed by a hiss of, "Shit!"
I froze midstep, my foot slowly setting itself down on the step so I wouldn't make any noise. I backed up ever so slowly, trying to be as quiet as possible. I strained my ears so I could listen for anymore sounds.
"Shut the hell up," another voice growled. "Be. Quiet."
"I'm trying.."
I knew they weren't Slayers, there's no possible way they could be. Slayers weren't able to get in, excluding a few that I happened to know. I tip-toe down the steps and slip into the kitchen quietly, glancing around. They were in the living room, I concluded. Keeping silent I slid to the knife holder and gripped a butcher's knife, pulling it out of it's sheath and locking my eyes on the archway to the living room.
"What are we even doing here?"
"We need that necklace, the one he described to us," mumbled the other.
"It's a silver chain, right?" whispered the first, making my eyebrows furrowed. My hand shot up to the necklace around my neck, wondering if they were even talking about mine.
"Yeah. It has an orb around it, filled with smoky stuff. And something else."
Why were they after the orb? I knew it was stored with some basic magic that our body doesn't have, but the orb only responded to the person it was made for.
I peeked around the corner and saw the people facing away from me. Slowly striding up, I knocked the first person to the ground and slammed my foot on their throat to throw them off. The second person yelled out and turned to me, but I grab their arm and twist them around. I slammed them into the wall and placed the knife to their throat.
"Stop!" The first person staggered up, hands up in a pacifying gesture. I glanced from person to person, wondering how I'm always ending up in this position.
"What the hell are you doing here?" I demanded in a soft growl.
"We're not going to hurt you.."
"I don't give a shit. You're in my house, unwelcomed. I could easily get my dragon here and call my parents." I narrowed my eyes.
"We're not the bad guys here, Faye," the person breathed, pulling their hood down. A woman with long brown hair was revealed, the waves falling down her back. She had green-gray eyes. "Please let him go."
"Who are you?"
"Carly. And the person you have pinned against the wall is my brother, Terrance."
Suddenly I jerked my head to the guy and used my other hand to force his hood down. His eyes flickered up to me gently and I knew immediately it was who I thought it was.
This Terrance was the Terrance dating Manny.
