Chapter 20: Leto's Welcome Home
I followed Jackson off the plane while Lucy, Quince, and Amanda followed raggedly behind. I could relate to their appearance, with their tired eyes and sluggish movements. I was beat, having gotten very little sleep on the plane.
You would think resting your eyes on a plane for a few hours would probably hold off nightmares for a while, right? Well I thought that, too, and boy was I very much wrong in thinking that. The nightmare was just as gruesome and terrifying as it was the multiple times before.
"Move, would you?" Lucy snapped, causing me to turn my head to see the cause. I had realized I was halfway down the boarding hallway with Jackson while Quince and Amanda lagged slower, but still ahead of Lucy. They also paused to turn and see who had caused Lucy's annoyance.
Lucy was scowling at a man in a black and white suit, her nostrils flaring and her teeth gritted. The man was looking just as frustrated, his arms crossing in attempt to look intimidating. Good luck, I mused silently, watching the two. Lucy isn't easily intimidated.
"Excuse me," the man said, pursing his lips and staring down at Lucy. He jerked his chin at her when she stood up straighter, seeing his stance as a challenge.
I set my carry on down and rubbed my eyes, forcing down a heavy sigh. This was going to take a while.
"Excuse you," Lucy agreed snarkly, wrinkling her nose at him. "You sort of pushed me out of the way and then just stopped in the middle of the walkway."
Apparently this man thought he would be receiving a submissive apology from Lucy, because his face colored with surprise and his confidence was slightly shut down. Ouch. He quickly recovered, crossing his arms even higher. "Ma'am, I do not know what you mean. I was simply trying to hurry past you, there was no need for you to be rude."
Quince and Amanda take in a sharp breath, grimacing slightly at his words. They were definitely thinking what I was: He was going to see Lucy's claws soon, the way he was talking.
Lucy raised her chin, crossing her own arms and looking as though holding back from truly putting this guy in his place. "Seeing that you shoved me into my sister-" she gestured to Amanda, "-I don't think I was being rude."
"I did not shove you, miss," he said, starting to look annoyed. His hands clenched his suit sleeves on his arms, eyes narrowing as well. "I would appreciate if you'd stop accusing-"
"Is there a problem here?" The flight attendant had stuck her head out of the plane, probably from hearing the commotion. She glanced back and forth between Lucy and the man, frowning thoughtfully.
Silence. Nobody said a word, most likely because we were all waiting for Lucy or the man to speak first.
The man cleared his throat, tightening his tie. "No. I was just leaving." He shot Lucy a glare before grabbing his carry on and sliding past us. The attendant frowned more, but decided it was handled and disappeared back inside the plane.
"Asshat," I heard Lucy grumble under her breath as she and the others caught up with Jackson and I. "Should've knocked his eyes down his throat."
"That's nice, Lucy," I told her, giving her a fake cheerful smile for sarcasm.
She flipped me off in response to me.

You know that moment when you get home, and your dog immediately tackles you to the ground because he missed you? The big weight of the said dog, or the small weight depending on the dog, holding you down as he attacks you with love?
Well, it's nothing compared to a dragon. Not by a long shot.
Here's what happened:
"I'm going to sleep when we get to the house," I declared as we drove through the streets of Dragon's Cove, breaking the silence that had taken place the moment we got into the car back at the airport.
"What about your parents?" Quince asked, lifting her head from Lucy's shoulder.
"They can wait until we're well-rested and all that," I reply, holding back my fourth yawn in five minutes. "I couldn't stay awake to talk to them about anything if I tried."
More silence fell after that, and soon we arrived at the house. Lucy, Quince, and Amanda weren't staying with us, they had left their car at my house so they were going to drive to the hotel.
Jackson and I were about to enter the house, and were so closer to my bed when it happened.
I was suddenly knocked off my feet and was lashing through the field by our house. I couldn't quite comprehend what the hell was going on since it was literally out of nowhere. Then, I'm pressed against something hard and sent rolling down a hill at a stomach-tugging speed. The thing made grunting and huffing sounds, and I saw flashes of white.
When we reached the ground, the thing moved so it was sitting on my legs. My eyebrows furrowed and I looked up. Laughter filled my head, the sound of the source ever so familiar as the blue eyes that greeted me when I looked up.
"Leto you big lizard!" I say, a wide smile rising to my lips as I watch her beautiful white wings fold behind her. Her eyes glittered playfully as she continued sitting on me.
"Big lizard?" replied Leto, snapping her jaws at me in fake-threat. "I'm the one whose sitting on you, this time, so I'd watch it missy."
"Get off," I told her, giggling and poking her chest. "Seriously. You're heavy."
"Oh please." She rolled her eyes, bringing her face closer to my own and nuzzling my cheek lovingly. "I missed you, little one."
"I missed you, too, Leto." I run my hand down her muzzle a few times, before wrapping my arms around her neck and hugging her. Leto slinks her neck closer, responding to the hug and making content humming sounds.
I didn't even realize I fell asleep.
