I add as much sugar to my coffee as humanely possible. I needed a lot of coffee and sugar in order for me to stay awake and sane for the day.

As I stir the sugar in the coffee I look out the hotel window and watch the city lights glitter. The sun has not yet risen, leaving the beautiful city to shine in the darkness of the morning.

"Morning," Jackson yawns, walking out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel.

"Good morning." I raise the mug to my lips and take a sip of the coffee. The warm liquid rushed down my throat, instantly relaxing my already tense muscles a little.

"How'd you sleep last night?"

"Terribly," I reply, sighing and setting the mug on the counter. "It's almost impossible to sleep without having nightmares."

He tilted his head thoughtfully, a frown playing his lips. "Have you tried to drink tea before sleeping?"

"No."

"Try that tonight," he suggested, setting a clean mug under the coffee maker. "It might help you have better dreams."

"Yeah, maybe." As I said it, though, a rush of doubt went through me. I doubted, no matter what I did, the nightmares would go away anytime soon. They were worse last night, longer too. I woke up both screaming and crying hysterically, making Jackson wake up too. I felt bad that he had to suffer from my nightmares, but he assured me he didn't care that it woke him up. He was worried about me.

I picked up my mug again and took a large drink of the coffee. It was hot, but it didn't bother me at all right now. I just wanted to push away anything that made me tired and force myself to stay awake. That was my new goal for the day. Don't fall asleep.

He kissed my forehead and went to the bedroom, most likely to get dressed. I turned to face the city again, leaning against the counter and sipping my coffee. I listened to Jackson's coffee brew and sigh softly. My eyes were already heavy from lack of sleep, but now I was finding it hard not to lay down on the couch for a snooze..

No. I shook my head, scolding myself for these thoughts. No sleeping, Faye.

I quickly took more drinks of my coffee, debating on whether to make more after I finish this one. As I was making up my mind, Jackson walked out of the bedroom dressed and as handsome as usual. He saw his coffee was done and took it, taking a gulp of it before looking at me. "You look like you're ready for battle."

"I'm trying to decide if I should have another coffee or not." I down the rest of the content in the mug before setting it on the counter. I felt a little less tired, but that didn't make the doziness wash away.

He stared at me, eyebrows raised. "Wow. You really don't want to be tired."

"Being tired leads to sleep, which I don't want to do at the moment."

"Understandable."

I decide to make another coffee, making sure to add a lot of sugar to it. Jackson and I sit down at the table and chat for a little while as we drink our beverages, enjoying the morning talk and the peace of it. No talks about Slayers, or war, or nightmares. We just talked about simple things, really. Like sports, weather, our hopes and dreams for the future.

Jackson and I finish off our coffee and clean up the mugs.

"What're we doing today?" I asked curiously as I put the now clean mugs away.

He finished wiping off the sink and set the dish towel aside. "Anything you want. Doesn't have to be anything mythical magic related."

I smile a little bit, feeling relieved. "Could we go shopping?"

"Sure." He chuckled. "Want to invite the others?"

I shrugged, "Sure why not? What's a fun day without a couple of annoying friends eh?"

--

"You need to learn when it's okay to wake me up, and when it's not," Lucy complained as she and Amanda walk out of their hotel.

"Oh don't be a baby." I roll my eyes, crossing my arms over my chest.

"I'm not a baby," Lucy retorted, greeting Quince with a peck on the lips then turning back to me, "I'm just moody in the mornings. You should know that."

"I know you are," I reply as we make our way to the elevator. "Which is why it's a lot of fun to annoy you."

"Be lucky I like you, Faye. If it were anyone else I would've smacked them."

"Even Quince?" I smirked. Quince smirked as well and turned to Lucy with a pout.

"What?" Lucy looked cornered. "Wait, no!"

"But you said if it were anyone else but Faye," Quince said, putting on a hurt expression to my amusement.

"Quince," Lucy groaned, cheeks red now. "You know I didn't mean-"

Quince stuck her lip out for effect of her pout, eyes wide innocently. It took me everything not to snicker at Lucy's panicked expression. Jackson coughed into his arm, and I'm guessing he was trying to cover up his own laughter.

"I guess I'm just not special enough," Quince murmured, looking down in fake sadness.

"Yes you are!" Lucy cried out, causing two other people to look at us as we walked past them. We reach the elevator and Jackson pushed the down arrow on the panel. "Quince!"

I snickered finally, and Lucy snapped her head towards me with a glare on her face. Quince bursted out laughing as well, and suddenly Lucy looked pissed off.

"You guys are jerks," Lucy complained, crossing her arms and scowling at the floor.

"Loveable jerks," Quince added, kissing her cheek.

Lucy grumbled, half-heartily waving Quince off. Quince grins and hugged her from behind saying, "Awe, don't be mad. You tease us all the time."

"But it's better when I'm the one teasing, not the one being teased," she retorted, face as red as tomatoes.

"Yeah yeah, miss ego," I reply, nudging her playfully. "Your pride is hurt, isn't it?"

She raised an eyebrow at me. "It's deeply wounded, I tell you. It might need very careful treatment."

"We don't give that kind of treatment, sorry."

The elevator door opened and we all piled in. I pushed the first floor button and Jackson wrapped his arm around me. "So where to first?"

"Food," I said immediately.

"You haven't eaten already?" Quince asks, chuckling. "Wow, I'm surprised. Usually you eat every thirty minutes."

"Bite me."I scowl at her, sticking my tongue out. "And it's every hour. Get it right, missy."

"I apologize, I was like thirty minutes off," she said sarcastically, throwing her hands up in the air. "I so hope you can forgive my stupidity."

"I will have to think about it," I said, pointing my nose in the air. "I don't think I can recover so quickly after such a rude insult."

We all snickered, and I seemed to have lightened the day.
