Chapter 8
A Night In
After a day of exploring the city and unwinding, the four WWE superstars found themselves back at the hotel, eager to cap off their downtime with a relaxing evening together. Dinner plans had evolved into a more intimate affair — a simple, cozy night in, with good food, good company, and no need to go anywhere.
Chris and Logan decided to host the dinner in their suite, which was spacious enough to accommodate everyone comfortably. While not overly luxurious, the suite had a warm, inviting atmosphere, with plush sofas, a large dining table, and a balcony offering a view of the city below.
After freshening up, Chris and Logan started setting up the room. They arranged the table with takeout menus, opting for a variety of dishes that would satisfy everyone’s tastes. From Italian to Thai, they made sure to cover all the bases. Logan had taken the lead on this, ensuring they had enough options, while Chris focused on setting up the room.
Nikki and Maryse arrived a short while later, dressed casually but still effortlessly stylish. Nikki had her hair pulled back into a loose ponytail, and Maryse wore a simple yet elegant top, her makeup minimal. The two of them seemed just as relaxed as the brothers, their smiles reflecting the easygoing mood of the evening.
“Smells good in here,” Nikki commented as she walked in, taking in the scent of various dishes that were already spread out on the table.
“Logan went all out,” Chris said with a grin, gesturing to the array of food. “We figured we’d just pick a little of everything and dig in.”
Maryse smiled as she glanced over the options. “This looks perfect. Sometimes, it’s nice to just keep things simple.”
They each grabbed a plate and started serving themselves, chatting casually as they did. The atmosphere was light, the weight of their professional lives momentarily set aside in favor of enjoying the moment.
Once everyone had their plates full, they settled into the comfortable sofas and armchairs around the room, balancing their food on their laps or on the coffee table in front of them. The TV was on in the background, playing a movie at a low volume, more for ambiance than actual watching.
As they ate, the conversation flowed easily, covering everything from funny moments on the road to upcoming plans for their next shows.
“Do you guys ever just want to pack it all in and disappear for a while?” Nikki asked at one point, looking between Chris and Logan.
Chris paused, thinking for a moment. “Sometimes, yeah. It’s a demanding life, and it can get to you. But I can’t imagine doing anything else. This is who we are, you know?”
Logan nodded in agreement. “It’s all we’ve ever known. But I get what you mean. Everyone needs a break now and then, even from the things they love.”
Nikki nodded thoughtfully. “Yeah, I feel the same. I love this business, but it’s nice to have moments like this, where we can just be ourselves and not worry about anything else.”
Maryse smiled, raising her glass of wine slightly. “To more moments like this.”
Everyone lifted their glasses in a silent toast, the mood warm and relaxed. They continued to eat, laughing and talking as the evening progressed. There was a sense of ease among them, a comfort that came from knowing they didn’t have to be “on” tonight. There was no pressure, no need to impress anyone. It was just four friends enjoying each other’s company.
After they finished eating, the group moved to the balcony, where the city lights twinkled against the night sky. Chris and Nikki stood near the railing, looking out at the view, while Logan and Maryse sat on the outdoor chairs, continuing their quiet conversation.
“It’s beautiful out here,” Nikki said softly, leaning against the railing as she looked at the skyline.
Chris nodded, standing beside her. “Yeah, it is. Days like this remind me that there’s more to life than just wrestling. Sometimes, you need to take a step back and appreciate what’s around you.”
Nikki glanced at him, a small smile playing on her lips. “You’re full of surprises, Chris Johnson. You’re not just the powerhouse in the ring; you’re also a deep thinker.”
Chris chuckled, shrugging slightly. “I guess there’s more to me than just muscle. But don’t tell anyone — it might ruin my reputation.”
Nikki laughed softly, shaking her head. “Your secret’s safe with me.”
On the other side of the balcony, Logan and Maryse were engaged in a similarly quiet conversation. Logan, usually reserved, found himself opening up more than usual, something about the evening and Maryse’s presence putting him at ease.
“It’s nice to see you relax,” Maryse said, her voice gentle. “You’re always so focused, so intense. It’s good to take a step back and just… be.”
Logan nodded, his gaze steady on her. “You’re right. It’s something I’m working on — not always being in ‘wrestling mode.’ I appreciate nights like this. It reminds me that there’s more to life than the next match.”
Maryse smiled, reaching out to gently touch his hand. “You’re doing just fine, Logan. It’s okay to let go sometimes.”
They continued to talk, their connection growing deeper with each word, each shared thought.
As the night wore on, the group eventually returned inside, the cool night air replaced by the warmth of the suite. They settled back into their seats, enjoying the final moments of their evening together.
“Tonight was exactly what we needed,” Nikki said, looking around at the group. “A chance to recharge before we dive back into everything.”
Chris nodded in agreement. “Absolutely. We’ve got a lot ahead of us, but nights like this remind us why we do what we do. We’re in this together, and that makes all the difference.”
Logan raised his glass again, this time in a toast. “To friendship, to teamwork, and to whatever comes next.”
They all clinked their glasses together, a silent promise of support and camaraderie in the battles ahead.
The night gradually wound down, with the four of them eventually saying their goodnights and heading to their respective rooms. As Chris and Logan closed the door behind them, they couldn’t help but feel a renewed sense of purpose.
The challenges ahead were still daunting, but they had a support system that made it all seem a little less overwhelming. Together, they were stronger, and they knew they could face whatever the future held.
As they prepared for bed, Logan looked over at Chris, a rare smile on his face. “Tonight was good. We needed that.”
Chris nodded, a similar smile on his face. “Yeah, we did. And tomorrow, we get back to work.”
“Together,” Logan said, the word carrying a weight of determination.
“Together,” Chris echoed, and with that, they turned in for the night, ready to face whatever came next.
To be continued…
