Chapter 7
A Day to Recharge
The sun rose slowly over the city, casting a golden hue over the skyline as the hustle and bustle of the morning began to take over. But for Chris, Logan, Nikki, and Maryse, the day promised something rare in their hectic lives — a full day off to unwind and recharge.
After the intense match on Raw and the late-night dinner that followed, the four had agreed to take the next day for themselves. There was no rush to pack up and move to the next city, no appearances to make or interviews to give. Just a day to relax, unwind, and enjoy each other’s company without the pressures of the WWE looming over them.
Chris was the first to wake up, his internal clock honed from years of early morning workouts. He stretched, feeling the usual post-match soreness in his muscles, but it wasn’t as bad as he’d expected. The thought of a quiet morning, with no obligations, was enough to make him smile. He checked his phone, noting a text from Nikki: *Breakfast in an hour?*
He typed out a quick reply — *Sounds good, meet you in the lobby* — then headed to the bathroom to freshen up.
Logan was already up by the time Chris stepped out of the bathroom, sipping on a protein shake as he flipped through the channels on the hotel room’s TV.
“Morning,” Chris greeted, rubbing the back of his neck as he grabbed a bottle of water from the minibar. “Nikki and Maryse want to meet for breakfast in an hour. You in?”
Logan nodded, not taking his eyes off the screen. “Yeah, sounds good. Could use some food after last night. Anything special planned for today?”
Chris shrugged, leaning against the wall. “Nothing crazy. Just a chance to relax, maybe hit the gym later, but mostly just taking it easy.”
Logan switched off the TV and turned his attention to his brother. “A day to recharge. We could use that, especially with Night of Champions coming up.”
“Exactly,” Chris agreed. “And after last night, I think we earned it.”
An hour later, the four of them met in the hotel lobby. Nikki looked fresh and radiant, her smile bright as she greeted Chris with a quick hug. Maryse was equally as stunning, her confidence clear in the way she carried herself as she exchanged a friendly smile with Logan.
“Ready to eat?” Nikki asked, glancing between the brothers.
“Always,” Chris replied, grinning. “Where are we headed?”
“There’s a café a few blocks from here that serves a great breakfast,” Maryse chimed in. “It’s quiet, good food, and the coffee is fantastic.”
“Lead the way,” Logan said, and with that, they headed out into the morning sun.
The café Maryse had chosen was indeed a gem — a small, quaint spot with outdoor seating and a menu that offered everything from hearty omelets to fresh pastries. They found a table on the patio, shaded by a large umbrella, and settled in, enjoying the cool breeze and the quiet ambiance.
As they looked over the menus, Nikki leaned back in her chair, glancing at the brothers with a teasing smile. “So, what do you two do on your days off? When you actually get one, that is.”
Chris chuckled, lowering his menu. “Honestly? Not much. We’re usually traveling or training. Days like this are rare, so when we do get one, it’s mostly just about resting and trying to recharge.”
Logan nodded in agreement. “Yeah, maybe hit the gym later if we’re feeling up to it, but otherwise it’s just about taking it easy.”
Maryse smiled knowingly. “Well, today’s your lucky day because Nikki and I are going to make sure you both actually relax. No thinking about The Shield, no worrying about Night of Champions — just a day to unwind.”
Chris and Logan exchanged amused glances. “That’s the plan, then,” Chris said, his tone light. “What do you two usually do on your days off?”
Nikki grinned. “Well, I’m usually in the gym, too. Gotta stay in top shape, especially with all the competition we’ve got. But I also love to get outside, do something active but fun, like hiking or just walking around and exploring the city.”
Maryse nodded. “Same here. I love staying active, but I also enjoy just finding a nice spot to relax, read, or catch up on things that I don’t have time for when we’re on the road.”
They placed their orders, opting for a mix of healthy options and indulgent treats, and continued to chat as they waited for their food. The conversation flowed easily, covering everything from funny road stories to favorite movies and TV shows.
When the food arrived, they dug in with enthusiasm. The café lived up to its reputation, and the group enjoyed their meal, savoring each bite as they talked and laughed together. It was a rare moment of normalcy in their chaotic lives, and they all appreciated it.
After breakfast, they decided to take a walk around the city. The day was warm, with a gentle breeze that kept the heat at bay, and the streets were alive with activity. They strolled through the nearby park, the greenery and open space offering a refreshing change from the usual hustle of the arenas and airports.
Chris and Nikki walked slightly ahead, their conversation shifting to more personal topics as they enjoyed the peaceful surroundings.
“It’s nice to have a day like this,” Chris said, glancing down at Nikki. “No pressure, no crowds, just… normal life, you know?”
Nikki smiled up at him, nodding. “Yeah, it’s a reminder that there’s more to life than just the ring. Don’t get me wrong, I love what we do, but it’s important to take time for yourself, too.”
Chris hesitated for a moment before speaking. “I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately. About the future, what comes after all this.”
Nikki looked at him thoughtfully. “You mean after wrestling?”
Chris nodded. “Yeah. I love this business, but it’s hard on the body, on the mind. I want to make sure that when it’s time to step away, I’m ready for whatever comes next.”
Nikki reached out and gently squeezed his arm. “You’ll figure it out, Chris. You’ve got a good head on your shoulders, and you’ve got Logan by your side. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll be great at it.”
Chris smiled, appreciating the reassurance. “Thanks, Nikki. That means a lot.”
Behind them, Logan and Maryse were deep in their own conversation. They’d grown more comfortable with each other over the past few days, and the chemistry between them was undeniable.
“You’re quieter than Chris, but I can tell there’s a lot going on in that head of yours,” Maryse remarked, glancing over at Logan as they walked.
Logan chuckled softly. “Yeah, I’m not as much of a talker, but I’m always thinking. I like to plan things out, make sure we’re ready for whatever comes our way.”
Maryse smiled. “That’s a good quality to have, especially in this business. But don’t forget to live in the moment, too. Sometimes, it’s okay to just… be.”
Logan looked at her, his expression softening. “I’m working on that.”
They continued walking, the conversation light and easy as they enjoyed the day together. The hours passed by quickly, filled with laughter and shared stories, and before they knew it, the afternoon was drawing to a close.
As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the city, the four of them found themselves back at the hotel, standing in the lobby with the comfortable fatigue of a day well spent.
“That was exactly what we needed,” Chris said, his voice filled with contentment. “Thanks for making us take a day off.”
Nikki grinned. “Anytime. We all need days like this every once in a while.”
Maryse looked at Logan, her eyes twinkling. “So, what’s the plan for tonight? Dinner? Or maybe just relax?”
Logan smiled, feeling a sense of calm he hadn’t felt in a long time. “I think dinner sounds good. Something low-key, just like today.”
Chris nodded in agreement. “Let’s keep it simple, maybe order in and just hang out.”
With that decision made, they headed up to their rooms to freshen up before meeting again for dinner. The day had been a welcome break from the usual grind, a chance to recharge both physically and mentally.
As they settled in for the evening, the camaraderie they shared felt stronger than ever. The challenges ahead were still there, looming on the horizon, but for now, they were content to enjoy the moment.
Tomorrow, the fight would continue. But tonight, it was all about friendship, relaxation, and the simple pleasure of a day well spent.
To be continued…
