I discreetly entered my house from the back door, closing the back door softly before rushing up the stairs to my room.
"Meow," Owl greeted me warmly, rubbing herself against my legs.
"Hi Owl, there's no time to lose, a maniac's on the loose." I retrieved the bag of jewels and flipped through my notes furiously, finally stopping at the page about emeralds. It is the most reactive with Nerium Oleander and yet...why didn't it work? I repeated the spell out loud. "Bear fruit...fruit...what is needed before there's fruit...water?" Such a powerful spell needed something more than water. Something with more oomph. I smacked my forehead, "Of course! I'm so stupid! It needs nutrients! A blood sacrifice."
I got to work, crushing an emerald to dust. Once I was satisfied with the fineness of the powder, I used my trusty pocketknife to prick my finger, letting a few drops of blood to drip onto the soil. I watched as the roots absorbed my blood, before sprinkling emerald powder on the plant.
Please work, I silently begged as I chanted the spell,
"Leaves to roots
Flowers to shoots,
I command,
May you bear the fruit,
Healing and destruction of absolute"
The Nerium Oleander shuddered, glowing too brightly that I had to avert my eyes. Oops. I hope no one saw that.
As the light died down, I took a peek to see dull brown seed pods in place of the pastel pink flowers. "It worked!" I squealed, grabbing my cat and swinging her gently as I did a victory jig around my room. Owl yowled loudly, clawing at my arms. I promptly let go of her and she jumped onto the bed, glaring at me with her sky blue eyes as if to say, "get back to work". "You're right, we can celebrate later." I carefully collected all the seed pods and cracked them, harvesting small, light brown seeds into a small pouch. "and....I'm done." I announced as I placed the last seed into the pouch. Pocketing the pouch, I flicked my wrist to look at my watch; 20:45. Perfect, I'm right on time.
