"Meeeooowwww" Owl furiously batted at my face.
"I'm awake, I'm awake" I mumbled, pushing Owl away gently.
"Come out come out wherever you are", Striker cackled, directing lightning to random places.
I rubbed my eyes blearily, peering through my window. Who is that on the rooftop? Who is she taunting? Pretty boy? I glanced at my watch, it read 07:00. I have two hours to investigate before my exam. After setting my alarm for 08:00, I suited up quickly into my sleek dark purple spandex and wrapped my utility belt around my waist with a satisfied click. Humming Taylor Swift's I Did Something Bad, I refilled my seed pouch and went to the kitchen to have my breakfast.
"I don't regret it one bit, 'cause he had it coming~" I belted out as I grabbed a cheese sandwich from the fridge.
"Bye Owl! Wish me luck!" I called out, shutting the door with my leg.
Spotting Striker, I waved my sandwich, "Hey scary lightning girl," I took a bite, "o-er -ere!"
Striker did a backflip, landing gracefully a few feet away from me. She narrowed her eyes at me disdainfully, "I'm Striker," she cracked her knuckles intimidatingly, creating sparks. "A supervillain, duh. Who are you?" Hah. You don't scare me. I held up by finger to indicate one second as I swallowed my bite of sandwich before continuing,"I'm Deadly Nightshade, the local supervillain."
Striker snorted, "You call yourself a villain?" her lips curled in disgust, "Not in that", she eyed my suit in contempt, "you're not. You look like a walking purple asparagus."
I gritted my teeth, anger bubbling within me. How dare she? I spent ages to make this suit. Oooh I hate her. So much. "Oh yeah? Says the dumb yellow minio-"
"Ladies, ladies, enough of the cat fight."
I rolled my eyes; pretty boy has arrived at the scene. I caught Striker rolling her eyes too, guess both of us can't stand him. Nevertheless, I still hate her.
"Mind Bender has arrived." Mind Bender announced as he strolled in, stopping next to me and bowed dramatically, nodding to each of us solemnly.
I sneaked a glance at Mind Bender and he looks awful, from the red rashes running down the side of his face, to the scorch marks on his grey suit. I felt a twinge of guilt but I brushed it away. He tried to stop you from achieving your goal, I reminded myself.
Striker rubbed her hands together gleefully, "Just the person I'm looking for. I'm going to end you. Then, I will rule this town." She grinned evilly.
I choked on my last bite of sandwich, coughing before managing to croak out, "End...him?" Sure, he was annoying but ending someone? That's just wrong. I might be a villain, but I'm a villain with a drop of conscience.
I forced myself to examine this self-proclaimed superhero; he looks like my age with wind-swept honey brown hair, bright blue eyes hiding a turmoil of emotions, shoulders slumped in defeat. I kind of feel sorry for him. You're not really considered a superhero if you've never caught a villain before. Whereas, as a villain, doing anything wrong is right. No rules but your own. Trust me when I say there's a lot of pressure to be a superhero, with the press taking every opportunity to broadcast all your failures for the world to see. For example, as of now, I can spot a reporter and crew hiding fearfully behind a pillar, focusing their cameras on pretty boy. I gestured rudely to them, sticking out my tongue. They should leave, if they know what's best for them. Today's fight won't be pretty.
"Don't worry, you're next." Striker grinned at me maliciously. I gestured wildly to myself incredulously, me? "I'm doing the world a favour by getting rid of a bunch of worms." Ouch. I gave her my best death stare. Unfazed, she pointed a finger at Mind Bender, "strike."
"Look out!" I tackled Mind Bender to the ground, earning a loud oomph from him. A crackle of electricity shot past me, missing me by a hair's breadth, causing my hair to stand on end. The smell of ozone filled the air. I patted my hair delicately, feeling it poof outwards. Fantastic. Just the look I was going for: a mad woman.
"Sorry", I apologised, accidentally kneeing his stomach when I scrambled off him. He grunted in pain as he stood up dazedly, trying to catch his breath.
"strike." Striker commanded again, shooting her lightning at the pillar next to us instead. My eyes widened as the pillar split into two, falling swiftly towards us. My eyes darted around desperately, looking for a loophole, only to find that there is no way we can escape this. My hands dug into my utility belt. Shoots. I don't have enough time for my plants to grow and support that weight. I closed my eyes, bracing myself for the impact. Good bye, World, I'll be flattened like pancakes. I like pancakes, I thought giddily.
One second.
Two seconds.
I cracked my eyes open, astonished to see the pillar floating in mid-air and Mind Bender's face scrunching in concentration, arms raised.
I stood dumbfounded, he saved my life.
My watch beeped loudly, snapping me out of my reverie. If I don't move fast, I'm going to miss my exams. Working quickly, I scattered several seeds expertly on the ground, muttering under my breath, "Grow strong and fast, in you I trust." Seeds burst into shoots and shoots into thick, strong tree trunks. Hurry, I pleaded silently as Mind Bender's control was slipping, the pillar inching closer to us. The weight of the pillar must've been too much for him as he suddenly stumbled backwards, swaying for a moment. I rushed forward, catching him just before he hit the ground. I buckled under his weight. My arms straining in exhaustion, I hauled out the passed out superhero by the armpits to a safe place just as the pillar collapsed heavily on five tall oak trees.
With Mind Bender's arm slung over my shoulder, I faced Striker bravely and taunted her, "Thanks for the warmup today, looking forward to the actual workout."
She snarled in anger, sending another deadly lightning at us. Anticipating her predictable move, I chucked my whole bag of seeds at the direction of the lightning. An explosion of powder filled the air. By the time the dust settled, pretty boy and I were long gone.
"Mark my words! I won't stop till I end you both!" Enraged, Striker starts the search for us.
