Chapter 28: Oh Look, Let's Study the Parts of a Story and See What Part This Is
Another chapter title brought to you by Fall Out Boy.

Your eyes widened at the large and vast field of snow. Miles and miles of snow, the place was completely deserted except for the small cabin. It was in the middle of nowhere until Lukas told you there were some villages nearby and indigeneous groups of people. This place reminded you of that buffalo scene from rhe Revnant. Congratulations to Leo DiCaprio for final-fucking-ly winning a goddamm Oscar.
"What is this place?"
"Finnmarksvidda, the home of the jotnar." Lukas said with greatness as you watched the snowy fields. "There's a cabin up ahead, but you won't see the plateau from there."
"Why not?" You asked. "Great views for great reviews in tourism."
"You want to be crushed by a troll in your sleep?" He rose an eyebrow at you.
"I take that back."
After more snow and another mile of snow, you both reached a cabin in the middle of nowhere. If it had a windmill and looked a bit more rickety, you wouldn't mistaken it as Courage's house from Courage the Cowardly Dog Show. It looked cozy. A bit worn out, but the windows were still attached. No holes or any damages. The appearance was just an appearance. The entire place must be disguised with magic and all like the rock when you first came to that so-called bombing area. Yet the only difference between the cabin and the cartoon house was that the cabin was abut bigger.
The place was completely covered in snow though. You hoped that it didn't break in.
You grabbed your pack that had a good supply of clothes that could last for three days, sanitary stuff, and of course your equipment for your report. You made sure that your phone and camera made it through everything. Luckily, your friends sent you your laptop when you both were at Hammerfest. Editing was now easier and filled with more options other than cutting and cropping on your phone.
You got out of the SUV and jumped into the 2-feet thick snow. You froze in place as you could feel the snow melting through your pants. A deep sigh of regret instantly left your lips as you started to waddle towards the steps of the cabin. You cussed along the way and murmured how great of an idea was jumping into the snow with a heavy ass backpack.
You managed to reach the steps of the cabin where Lukas was fiddling with the keys. You noticed that his breathes were heavy his hands were shaky. When he placed the key into the lock, you heard a small hiss out of his lips. His actions shocked youm he was fine earlier, now he looked like he just gained frostbites all over his body.
"Are you alright... babe?" Lukas suddenly cringed.
You snickered at his reaction. The man faced you with a sour look. You made a finger gun and shot him with an imaginary bullet. You winked that made him cringe even more. You broke into laughter, clutching your arms over your stomach. Lukas looked at you thinking that this was ridiculous and a very bad attempt to create a nickname for each other.
"Don't." He simply replied amd turned back to opening the cabin's doors.
"Alright sweetie."
"For the love of god, stop." You snorted at him and pulled yourself up on the porch.
You leaned against the rusty iron railings covered with snow. The snow was already leveled with the porch somehow, but it didn't bury it. Fogged windows and a surprisingly sturdy door were the first things you noticed up close. On both sides of the door were two unlit gas lamps that you'd doubt you'd use tonight. The doors had scratches on them. You wiped the fogged windows to see more scratches, but the windows were thicker than bulletproof glass.
Worry washed over you as you studied the glass and the scratches on the walls and door. The weird thing was that you never saw an animal going out in the open this far.
Finally Lukas got the door open. He silently cursed at the association for the low maintenance on the most dangerous satellite quarters in Norway.
"Whoa." You looked inside with surprise.
You shrugged off the snow on your body and backpack before going in with Lukas. The entire place was surprisingly more massive in the inside. It felt like a luxury cabin from a ski resort. There was an area that went down into den with just a couple of steps down. The den had a fire place in the middle of the surrounding couches built into the wood and concrete. On the opposite side had another set of steps that led to a dining room and a kitchen elevated on another set of stairs that stretched behind the den with a small bar.
On your right was a set of stairs with thick and beautifully carved wood for railings and on the edge of each step had rubber. The ceiling surprised you the most because it had the painting of the constellations of the sky, glittering even if the light was too subtle.
"They out did themselves this year." Lukas said in surprise with a low whistle.
"What do you mean by that?" He closed the door behind you as you walk down into the den with marveling eyes at the interior.
"This cabin is known for having the worst maintenance out of all satellite quarters." Lukas turned the lights on as the entire place immediately lit up brightly along with the fireplace that automatically lit up.
"Ohohohohoho!" A big grin was on your face.
You dropped your bag and shimmied out of your parka before sitting on the floor in front of the fireplace.
"Real warmth!" You sighed in relief and leaned against the couches.
Lukas dropped his bag by the stairs. He removed his parka too before joining you by the den. You leaned your head against his shoulder and closed your eyes. Listening to the cackling of the fire as the icy air howled outside. He wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled you closer.
"Now this is a real break." You sighed and made yourself comfortable against him.
When he laced his fingers with yours, you noticed that his hands were colder than usual. You played with his hands a bit. You held his hands up and poked the top of each finger. You poked his palms and laid the backside of his hands down on your lap. Slowly you slide your fingers gently from the spaces between his fingers. To the curves and lines on his palms, and finally to his wrists as you lifted the sleeves of his sweater to see them.
Everything about him was pale as porcelain. To you, it felt like he was easy to read yet hard to identify in a way. You both have a lover's bond, but it feels like you don't know him. Not entirely, no. You only know the surface of that mysterious demeanor of his. There was more than just family ties. There was more to the story and you could tell that. You just don't know how to ask him about it. You didn't want to hurt him in any way or give him a reason to just abandon you in the middle of nowhere. You both love each other and you didn't want to lose that.
Lukas is like porcelain indeed. You realized that a long time ago, but you never noticed the small cracks. Those invisible lines that start to grow longer and bigger each time something happens. Sometimes a chip from him falls to the ground and breaks. He's fragile yet so heavy. Heavy with emotions he bottles up. Like a Terracotta Warrior that's starting to fall apart after so many years of staying hidden, except this warrior would be porcelain. Not exactly made for war, but made for something as a gift or something to adore, or something to take care of. This man is still a small boy looking for the appreciation and care in his works. Wondering if he could ever achieve this as something to save life or to destroy it. Everything was fragile.
You looked at the watch on his left wrist. A silver Rolex watch, it looked vintage. The time was stuck though. You scrunched your lips and mentally smiled at the warm gesture.
"This was from my grandfather." You listened to his words carefully. "He wanted me to have it before he passed away."
"Why silver though?" You asked him. "Isn't it usually gold?"
"He gave Matthias his gold one because he's the eldest obviously." You chuckled at his answer. "But there's a meaning to it."
"Gold represents the old. It may be old, yet it's still flourishing to create a greater shine. Matthias is next in line to take our father's position in the association. That's why he has the gold watch. He only told this to me and no one else because he believes that the middle child is the most trustworthy, this was when Tino, Tina, Emil, and Emilia weren't born yet." He explained. "So he gave me the silver watch."
"What does silver mean then?" You studied the watch more carefully.
There were studded diamonds on it. The hands of the watch were plain black, but the cursive numbers were carved with gold. You realized that the inside was made out of the shiny part of an oyster.
"Silver means... new beginnings." You looked at him in the eye. "Gold is the old shine while silver is the new. It's clear and it represents a second generation. Silver to him meant change, good change."
His words seemed so hesitant. His big lavender eyes that were looking towards the fire were filled with sorrow and doubt. The emotion in him astonished you. A rare and sad moment.
"Tell me more." You whispered.
Lukas inhaled and exhaled. His eyes were distant and deep into the flames in the fireplace. It somehow mesmerized you greatly. To think that a man who was emotionless as him would show so much emotion to a complete stranger who he fell in love with in just a few weeks.
"Silver represents a new era and he told me this before he died," He breathed, "Someday, you will create a new era of hunting in our family. Not just for us, but for the world as well. The only reason why he said that was because he found out about my ability to do magic."
Lukas raised his hand as the flames started to flicker into multiple colors. Red, blue, green, yello, orange, violet, black, white, brown, and more until it became rainbow-colored. Your eyes widened in amazement, but you could understand what he meant. Lukas did create a new era of hunting and this was just the beginning of it. But the era he has created was not the path he expected himself, or how his grandfather, would've done it. He feels a bit off about the whole thing, but a part of him yells at him that everything that he was doing is the right thing.
"I wish I knew what kind of world he was talking about." At this point, he looked like a little boy to you. Not that strong and mysterious man you saw before, but a helpless kid. A side that came out willingly in front of you. This is how much trust he has in you.
The emotions in you swelled up. You can feel the heartbreak in him. His hurt, his sorrow, his anguish, his regret, his confusion, everything. One by one it just hit you like a truck.
You've been hit by the feels.
"Neither of you knew how you would shape this world." You spoke honestly to him.
"But what if-" You suddenly tackled him down by surprise.
He opened his eyes to meet yours, sternly looking at him. Those (e/c) eyes digging deeper and deeper into his soul aa if death was right in front of him. That sense of fear was there, but your expression was soft. He finally realized that. Only your smoldering eyes were scorching into his soul. Placing a carving into him using fire.
"Lukas, listen to me." Your voice was moderately soft, but it echoed through the area. "Do not think about those what if's and I forbid you from telling yourself that you regret your work."
Your face moved closer to his.
"You think that you've failed your family?" He opened his mouth to say something, but he quickly shut it. "Don't you dare think of that saying of failing is not an option because failure is an option. You know what isn't an option? Giving up. That is not, and never will be, an option because giving up means you are done. Done with life, your dream, your happiness-- everything!"
You started to stumble over your words, but you kept on rambling anyways. Your voice grew louder and louder as the man below you listened. He didn't take his eyes off of you because he saw it. He saw those tears coming out of your tear glands, daring to roll down your cheeks. You were at the verge of exploding everything you wanted to say to him. At how stupid he can be and how oblivious he is towards everything.
"As much as I hate saying this to everyone..." You sobbed and hugged him tightly. "Everything is going to be okay. You don't need to change anything because I know that everything will work out fine, after all we've been through it will."
You bumped your forehead against his and looked deeply into his eyes. Lukas was gone from words. For someone who has been through a lot, you were all too optimistic and too determined. Not for bad intentions, just for the greater good. A vigilante working in the cleanest way as possible.
You closed your eyes and nuzzled against his nose. Brushing your lips against his and inhaling his scent. Your breaths were shaky. Your body trembled from the rant you just let out. Your hands shakily cupped his face. Signs of genuine love and affection. It still surprised him how you fell for him and how you loved him with all of your heart.
He was hesitant at first, thinking that he didn't deserve such a woman like you. You were always ready to do anything, stupid or not, but mostly stupid. You were a woman who would walk through hell with a smile. An incredible person. But he's greedy. He loves you too much. He wrapped his arms around you and returned the gesture.
His warm embrace finally came and you didn't plan on letting him go, ever. He didn't plan on giving you away either. Neither of you wanted to leave each others sides. So strange and crazy, but love can be like that. Time may matter and sometimes it may not. In a few weeks, you both fell. What would it be like if it grew into months or years? You both would still be together. Married to each other or not, you both would find yourselves coming back to each other.
"Fuck destiny, you're the one good thing that has happened to me." He whispered under his breath.
You felt worried at his words, but you shrugged it off. You didn't want this moment to end.
"Til death do us part."
