Chapter 25: WTF I Didn't Expect This!

You didn't know if you should murder him now or later for taking you to a draugr site, like a whole area that's just for draugar. An abandoned graveyard in the middle of nowhere. The fact that Lukas knew the place well made you feel like one of his ancestors are some draugar here.

"Fuck you, Lukas..." You muttered. "Fuck you."

"I love you too."

You sighed and crossed your arms like a child, leaning against the dead tree next to you.

The entire place was filled with burial mounds and other underground mausoleums. The thought of it made you paranoid on every step you were going to take. Lukas reminded you that some of the corpses aren't draugar, not everyone beneath the ground were cursed. He made it east to think, but you weren't going to let the thought go that you might accidentally disturb one that's immune against weapons.

There was no way you were fighting that because you'd panic simply at the sight of one, or you become a bad ass because you got the reflex of Rapunzel. If only you had a frying pan.

Lukas equiped himself with an iron sword, which has been in the trailer since the time at the shop. You insisted the frying pan, but you guessed that it won't have chances in cutting bodies in half.

(If the pan I created in roleplays actually exists, I'd get myself one of those. For weaponry and cooking. Non-stick and ready for battle.)

Eventually, the both of you managed to enter a tomb safely. You expected booby traps because it's a fucking tomb. Every tomb you've seen in movies or read in books would have contraptions that would lead to the explorer's or thieves' deaths. Heck, you almost thought a giant boulder was going to chase you both.

It wasn't that you were disappointed that it wasn't like any of the video games you've played, but you were glad ot wasn't. Even if being shipwrecked on a cursed island sounds cool, it would be a hell for you. Fictional and catastrophic scenarios seemed cool until you experienced all of those for the past few weeks. You wished that you were back in the trailer with some hot chocolate.

"There are two reasons why we're here." Lukas started as he was checking the burrow below some broken stone carvings on the wall. "First reason is that we're going to get you a weapon, one that is more efficient than the bell."

"But I like my bell." You said and gave a little ring.

"Will it be effective against other creatures though?"

You sighed. He had a point, but the bell was precious to you. It was like your main weapon for weeks.

"Lastly, there's a relic we need in there." He added and stood up. "The rest of the tomb is below, so you better get ready for the draugr below."

"Wait, if you say draugr you only mean one of them right?"

"If we're lucky."

You let out a heavy sigh and followed him.

"Can't I at least have the sword?" You asked. "Or like a weapon?"

He handed you a dagger with the engraves of runes and characters.

"Use it wisely, it's a one use relic."

The both of you somehow managed to get down the burrow. It took more digging and less white walkers to worry about. Then you both reached the open cave below the entire graveyard of dead vikings. You were in awe when you sae the place. There was a bit of light coming from the hole above the large cavern. The dripping of water from the stalagmites almost sounded like rain and the smell of the salty ocean was nearby and smoke, which was weird because you swore that you were both far from the sea and there was no way a fire could've started underground unless there was someome in there.

"An underground passage?" Lukas said to himself. "The journal says nothing about a passage."

"Don't depend on whatever is written." You shrugged. "I may write a lot, but I have to check on it again if I missed any important deets."

"A passage should be written though." Lukas touched the walls. "There must be a secret passage or something around here."

You started to search too. You carefully made steps around the area. There may be still active traps, or the grave you both are looking for. Strangely, there was a loud snoring that bounced around the walls.

"Who was buried here anyways?" You studied the carvings on the wall where a dragon is shown looming over two men.

Your eyes fixed on the other carvings on the walls. It was an entire story, but some of them were unclear because they weren't well preserved. There was a man who pulled off the arm with his bare hands of the huge man that was next to him in the picture. Next was the same man with a king, perhaps, and another man that was being dragged away by a large woman.

Must be his wife. You chuckled silently.

The next picture made you feel a bit uneasy because it was the same man, who pulled off the arm, stabbing the woman, who you joked that it was the other guy's wife, with a sword. Then the next photo was all of them rejoicing and giving the same giy gifts. Your face turned grim and asked yourself what thus entire wall was at about.

Though what intrigued you was the words and carvings. It was in Old English, the unreadable shit before Canterbury Tales and Shakespeare's works. It's unreadable and impossible to understand, unless Lukas knew how to read this... probably he can't-

"This is Beowulf's burial site?" Lukas sounded like he was confused and surprised.

"What?"

The epic was taught back in your high school. You were pretty sure that Beowulf took place in Denmark and Sweden, not in Norway. The Geats were Swedish people, or so they say, but how the hell did you guys get to Sweden through a bunny burrow?

"The lights must be acting up again." Lukas remarked. "Come on, this isn't permanent so we need to move fast."

You quickly followed him into the next chamber where you both found a huge pile of treasure, and where the snoring grew louder and louder.

Piles and piles of treasures.

"Whoa..." You looked around in awe.

Footsteps echoed against the walls as the wide hole above brought in the light. Hundreds of piles of gold and silver and jewels glittered like a sky on earth. Some were buried and some were on the surface. Some had rust, but it still had that old shine of amazement.

Before you could take another step, Lukas suddenly pulled you behind a large pile of the treasure.

"Wha-" He covered your mouth before you could finish the first word of your sentence.

Lukas took his hand off and then signaled you to peek what's behind the pile. You followed his actions and found yourself in a mix of awe and fear, though it's more on awe and amazement. It made your stomach churn. The smoke that huffed out of the large nostrils as it slept intimidated you. Its long figure had you on your toes, almost longer than ten school buses. A snout that barely kept the dinosaur-like teeth in it's mouth. Deep blood red scales and large horns, it was bigger than any dragon back in Hjelmsøya.

"Holy shit..." You whispered under your breath.

The snoring and the smell of smoke came from that huge dragon. The size of it was outstanding.

Suddenly the most cliché thing happened and an eye opened. A large topaz-colored eye opened with snake-like eyes larger than a satellite dish.

Lukas pulled you back behind the piled and wrapped an arm around you. The both of you stayed as quiet amd as still as you could. Your heart felt like it was beating too loudly. You clutched your hands over your heart hoping that it would quiet down or at least calm down. Your body shook with even more fear when the ground started to shake and rumble.

The majestic lizard was standing up. Oh god.

You covered your mouth when a whimpee came out. Lukas on the other hand was getting ready. His hand looked like it was ready to grab the hilt of his sword while he muttered something in Old Norse. It sounded like a lullaby, a beautiful and creepy lullaby. You would've remarked that he would work nicely as a baritone with the local choirs back in France.

You slid your legs closer to yourself, carefully not touching any of the stray treasures on the ground.

You wanted to ask yourself, Why the hell were you so frightened? You've seen a dragon before and not give a damn about fear, but why this one. Why were you so scared of this beast? The anxiety your thoughts gave you grew stronger. You tried to calm yourself down, but you couldn't. You didn't understand why the fuck fear was acting up on you like this. If fear would strike up, why now? Why not when you got captured by your uncle? Why not during the first troll attack? It took you time to sense the small frightened little girl in you back in Hammerfest. So why would fear strike upon you now?

Then Lukas grabbed your gently by the chin and made you face him. You wanted to say you were scared, but the words couldn't seem to get out of your mouth. The entire world was silent. You couldn't hear his voice. You looked at his lips trying to make out what he was saying, but it didn't make sense. His expression was worrisome and puzzled.

Then your words finally croaked out when his hands took yours.

"I'm scared." Then everything suddenly just hits you.

All of those deep dark memories and secrets. It triggered your guilt too as a large shadow looms over the both of you.

"I know." Lukas whispered and stared deeply into your eyes as the shadow seemed to grow darker. "Don't mind it, just look at me."

His head was covering whatever was behind him. The large figure over the both of you was right behind his head. A gust of air and smoke came. It scared you and it made your legs shake.

"(Y/n)." He whispered softer than before and connected his forehead with yours.

Names are powerful elements, especially from someone you care for and who cares for you back. It calmed you down a bit and made you concentrate on him more. You noticed the small details on his face. The little freckles you haven't see before. They were barely visible, but were very prominent up close. His lips were slightly chapped and a small scar over the left side of his lip. There was a small burn under his neck, pressumably old but not that old.

Lukas cupped your hands and pressed them against his lips. He gently blew warm air into your ice cold hands. He kept eye contact with you that made your cheeks go red without you noticing. It felt more like a comforting aura. He kisses your knuckles and intertwined his fingers with yours.

"Trust me." A rare smile appeared on his lips.

His smile was completely genuine. It's not like the smirks he made or the grins he makes on occassional jokes and remarks. It was purely with emotions.

The shadow that loomed over the both of you rose up and the light grew brighter. The fear slowly went away. It made you feel light.

There was a large thud and a great yawn from the other side. The snoring continued.

"You know..." You whispered.

"I always trust you."

HOPE YOU ENJOY THE UPDATE!
