Chapter 18: And We're Not Fucked

"Who are you?"

Chills ran down your spine. You turned you head slowly to meet the intimidating stare of the stranger's icy blue eyes. Your breath was seen visibly as your eyes met his.

You were scared yet you still had the guts to look at him. His icy glare were piercing into your eyes as if he was examining your whole being.

"Who are you?" He asked once more.

You remained silent. You knew people like him. You knew what he uses to lure things out.

"Berwald." You whipped your head to your right to see Lukas shining his flashlight at the both of you. "Bror."

Knew it! You looked at Berwald and back to Lukas.

They didn't look a like except that they had blonde hair, but with the difference of shades. And we won't forget the slightly hostile aura they had around.

Berwald and Matthias would've been directly called brothers if he was here, but with Lukas or Emil? Not a chance. Lukas was different. They looked nothing a like.

Berwald was taller than him by a few more inches. He had cerulean blue eyes like Matthias, only that he had the most intimidating look you've seen in your entire life. Gold blonde hair shorter than Lukas'. Thin-rimmed glasses.

You realized that this stare has been going on for over a minute and he has released you from his grip.

"I... Uhh..." You got their attention that resulted into glares at you. "I'm just gonna give you guys some privacy."

You quickly walked away feeling nervous and anxious from the brothers' conflict.

****

You waited for a while at the hood of the car. You sat there looking mindlessly at the dark road, and thrashed forest from the troll attack.

You cupped your hands and blew into them. Frostbites appeared on your fingers that gave your hands a bluish tinge. You couldn't feel your hands from the coldness. You tried moving them. You can barely feel them move.

"(Y/n)." You heard Lukas' voice as he and Berwald appeared beside you. "This is my brother... Berwald."

Lukas seemed a bit unsure and angry about this. It was clear that he didn't want his older brother here.

"Hey..." You greeted as you shoved your left hand into one of the pockets of your parka to keep it warm as you took out your other hand for a shake. "I-I'm (Full name)..."

He stared at you and then looked at the camera that hung from your neck. You stood there with your hand out nervously as he glared at you.

"I would recommend that you should stop taking documents and go home." He spoke colder than the climate. "You need to stop and drop everything. Forget what you saw."

You looked at him as your heart seemed to forgot how to beat from the fear that engulfed you. He was very intimidating, the most intimidating man you've met since your own cousin who grew up to be one. His eyes were icy blue now. The sharp icicles that seemed to pierce into your own in a hostile vibe.

He stepped closer to you, and without any warning Lukas blocked his way to get to you. Your eyes widened and stepped back from the two brothers. Your retreated your other frostbitten hand into your parka.

The brothers had a glaring contest while you stayed behind Lukas a little scared and nervous. The wind howled and the goosebumps on your skin began to rise. You could feel the mood that type brothers showed. Annoyance. It was there shooting at each other. It wasn't the playful kind like how you are annoyed at your friend or by someone just teasing you. The annoyance with a vibe of hostility. You found this very unlikely. They were brothers yet they seem hostile to each other.

"She came here to make something for her project, Oxenstierna." Lukas defended you.

You dared to look at the taller blonde in the eye. Your hands began to shake from the coldness and the fear that pierced into you. His appearance seemed hostile enough from the long broad sword sheathed hanging from his waist to the fact that he didn't seem to favor you at all.

"A project for this stupid journalism course you did in Paris?" Berwald argued with him. "You know the rules the association gave us and the fact that not everyone can see through the Veil is in your way."

"The world needs to know and if they don't then how the hell are we going to protect these people?"

"Bringing the supernatural into the lives of people who don't see it will only make things worse." Berwald emphasized the last word with bitterness. "More cults will rise like how grandfather told us about his time."

You couldn't hold it. Your fear was suddenly shrouded by the anger that suddenly filled you through the whole argument. Berwald was making such nonsense that it was obvious that doing the right thing was telling the majority.

The brothers started to argue more in Norwegian and Swedish. Berwald spoke it fluently as if he grew up with the language while Lukas argued back with perfect Norwegian. You didn't understand their conversation except for a few curses here and there.

You suddenly had the urge to stop them. This fight made you uncomfortable and started giving you flashbacks of several arguments in your family according to property and wealth. This time it was about the better good rather than the fate of the greedy and envious people who you once thought as family.

You balled up your hands and bit your lip. You marched in between them and pushed the two away from each other before they could kill themselves.

"Stop it!" You yelled that surprised the two hostile looking men.

They looked at you with shock. A woman- who was at least a few inches shorter than them- had such anger and distaste in her eyes that made the men uneasy. Your fury and annoyance was quite visible. You may be easy to read, (in this fic or maybe you are irl) but you always surprised Lukas no matter what you did.

Your actions were unexplainable and unpredictable. No one knows what you are truly planning next. Maybe world domination or the death of someone you hate to the bones.

Berwald was astonished. Your fear of him was slowly disappearing. You glared at the taller blonde and huffed. You teeth were chattering like skulls and your body shook like there was no tomorrow, but you didn't feel it. The nervousness was gone. Your sense of feeling small was missing.

"Look, I know that you don't seem to like any-" You pointed at Lukas and at yourself, "-of us, but you need to get one thing straight before you can judge one's ambition from yours because this situation is life threatening to everyone."

You looked at him dead in the eye that boosted your confidence to speak to him.

"And what is wrong about showing the world these dangers that can come at them at any time? At their families or those who still search for a path?" You said. "This would actually be a privilege to me that I can share this and warn them even if it's just at the university."

Berwald looked at you as if you were a nuisance in this argument. Lukas looked at you as if you just made a point with everyone at the moment.

"I know that not everyone can see through the Veil." You gulped. "But we keep trying, eh?"

You gave a confident look. Berwald seemed a bit moved yet he was still stubborn. He started to walk back from where he came from. You both looked at him with the anxiousness rising up in the both of you.

"Three days." You heard his voice booming through the cold. "You have three days to deleted and forget about this project or you shall face your sanctions from the association."

You huffed out nervously. Even after acting confident at him you still felt fear from him. He made his words clear and sure.

"Come on, we're leaving." Lukas said.

You inhaled and exhaled the cold winter wind, and sat in front. Once you closed the door of the car you blew a lock of your hair away from your face and looked at the broken road ahead. The tree was still impaled on the ground and there were no signs or plans on removing it from its place.

"Aren't you going to..." You looked at Lukas and back to the tree.

He got the message and snapped his fingers. Blue mist surrounded the area. Your eyes widened as you saw the scene being cleaned up quickly. Blue ribbons of the mist grabbed the tree from the ground with ease while the rest of the mist began to clean the rest. Your mouth gaped open as the mist on the road cleared up to show no signs of damage on the dirt. You blinked and looked at his work with awe.

"Can you do that for my dorm?"

"Nei."

"Aww..."

You chuckled and snuggled up against your warm seat. You tried to feel your hands, but you couldn't. You didn't know if you were moving your fingers or not. Taking your hands out from your pockets you suddenly felt more chills coming from your hands.

You cupped your hands and blew into them trying to warm them up. The ice on your fingers were visible and your palms were blue. Red and purple veins started to appear. You tried thawing the ice with your breath, but you couldn't feel the warmth of your own breath. You started to panic a bit inside until Lukas grabbed your wrists.

You were surprised at his gestures. He studied your iced hands. They were both shaking and blue. You felt like you were becoming Loki from this, but without the magical powers. Your freezing hands gave stinging pains to your arms, but they weren't that painful.

He cupped your hands with his over yours. You were flabbergasted by his actions once he started to blow into your hands. You could feel his warm breath against your palms and fingers. You began to feel your hands again.

You looked at his mysterious lavender eyes that were focused on warming your hands. Your breathing slowed down as you felt a sensation of safety and calmness even though nothing could ever be calm at this moment. His eyes then moved up and met yours. You couldn't stop staring. It was something you couldn't put your finger on. There was something in there you couldn't reach yet you weren't even sure of yourself if you can get there.

Finally you felt a warmth rising to your cheeks. Your body grew warmer. The cold wasn't affecting you. Even the broken heater that was blowing in some cold air wasn't taking any effect on you. It was like your body was cured from that inexistent hypothermia that occurred to you.

He pushed your hands towards you and opened his palms to reveal your hands with no signs of a frostbite being ever there. Your curled your fingers and stretched them back. You balled them into fists and opened them back. They felt perfectly normal. You pulled your hands towards you astounded. Your heart beat skipped from the curiosity that filled you. Your cheeks were flustered from the warmth that he gave you a moment ago.

"How did you..." You looked back at your hands and moved your fingers.

You could feel them move now. It wasn't numb nor stinging with pain anymore.

"It's only a simple spell for a frostbite." He looked at your hands. "I haven't used this kind of spell since I was eleven."

"Now that's what I call a hiatus." You giggled and smiled at him warmly. "Thank you."

He stayed silent at first and looked at you dead in the eye with no whatsoever emotion. You wondered why. He looked at you very closely, and curiously in the inside. He wasn't sure of himself. He lost to power to read your mind. He lost the connection to your thoughts. That was a bad thing.

"No problem." He finally spoke up that relieved you.

You got your seatbelt on and looked at your hands. You were still starstruck by his actions. The warming of your hands and the fact that he listened to your plans for killing the trolls. Things were changing and the storm was only stirring up.

"So, what's next?"

"Hjelmsøya."

AFTER THREE WEEKS OF MAKING THIS I AM DONE. I FEEL SO ACCOMPLISHED. DEAR LORD GUYS I WAS SO SCARED THAT I MIGHT NOT FINISH THIS BY THE END OF THE WEEK, BUT I DID. I told myself Friday and yes. I finished it today. BOOM BITCH!
Seriously, I am relieved that I finished this so I can move on to the next chapter. I thank Halsey and Lindsey Stirling for the inspirational music, and a few Fall Out Boy songs I sang in school for the inspo.
See you on the next chapter!
Auf Wiedershen for now!
